Why your YLF nickname?

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but after reading the pun-thread, I was rather curious about some of YLF nicknames! Where do they come from?

Mine is pretty obvious, since Irene IS my real name. It means 'peace' and I have discovered I really like the sound of it after befriending a girl with the same name. I always found it funny that people tend to call me a lot by my name while I don't do it that much with others'. Well, I do feel the need to call her name all the time!

Mine is the name of a tropical fruit, which was my favorite growing up. Unfortunately, it is not exported to the US. I just added another "e" at the end.
The name of the fruit is zapote.

Zap, my mom has a zapote tree! (but she calls it sapote.). Hers is white fleshed though. She is always pleased when someone knows what it is. Wish I was still in ca, I'd send you some! (ETA: I always thought your name had to do with shoes (zapatos)!

Mine is just my real name but my "online" name (and my login here) is "akabori", which is my family's nickname for me. Akabori was the name of a North Chinese leopard (my favorite animal) at the San Diego zoo when I was a kid. (it's also a chemical reaction and some place in Japan.)

Mine is just a shortened version of my real name, which is Susan. "Suz" was a family nickname but no one has really called me that in the family for many years. I did have a beloved girlfriend (alas - now an estranged friend) who called me that, though, and I always liked it when she did -- it felt intimate and friendly. So I adopted it as my YLF name, because I was already convinced that this would be an intimate and friendly space.

I was a total daddy's girl, and mine is a version of my real name, Karen, that my father (now deceased) called me. He also called me Care and Kariesue (my middle name is Sue).

I used to have a hand dyed yarn company with this name. I used a bowl of colorful yarn with a fork in it as my Logo. Cuz, you know- yarn would be *really* chewy spaghetti!

I am just pain ol' Deb although my given name is Debra. Growing up, I was only called Debra when I was in trouble. I have never gone by that name.

Astrid is my real name. I'm not using it anywhere else on the internet, but I had been following YLF for a few weeks before I've decided to join and it seemed to be a place where I didn't have to worry about foregoing an alias. I like my name and it's not so common that I had to add anything to not get mixed up. It's a nordic name and a combination of the Norse terms for deity and beauty.

Also, look at this. I have to say I think the way the name sounds in English is almost as funny as the names he comes up with.

I just use my real name also. The G it the first letter of my surname. I was named after a song in the sixties called 'My Diane' by a group called 'The Batchelors' :). A lot of people call me Di, so feel free to call me that on here if you want.

When I first started an online journal in 1998 It was pretty common to have a pseudonym. My name is Kate (well, Kathleen but I have never been that), so I just played with the spelling to make it Ceit.

I used Ceit here because when I joined there was another regular poster who went by Kate and I didn't want to step on anyone's toes!

All throughout my 7 years of volunteering at the hospital in my home town, they have though my name was "Eilyn" - it even said that on my name tag, but I was too young/stupid to correct it, so I went by "Lyn."

That being said - I was also "Rebecca" for 4 years at my high school.

I really should correct people about my name.

Hmmm. Mochi is a Japanese rice cake that has a smooth, silky surface before you bake it. "Mochihada" (love it! Auto spell wanted that to be "no jihadis") is a descriptor for a woman's soft, beautiful skin. It's also hubby's old nickname for me.

I'm Angelique. And my Mama named me after that series of romance novels. Angie has always been a nickname, and it works well in Dutch too. But I have family members who call me by my full name and wouldn't dream of me as Angie.

Angie my Mum had those books.

I'm pretty sure they are still at my childhood home... and they were/are hardcovers with extra paper sleeve around, and someone whom mum borrowed the books for reading lost the cover for book #2 (there were 8, I think).

My nickname is actually my real name - I have never felt that any other on-line place deserved my real identity. It's just spelled a bit differently as I'm less googleable this way.

Oops Ornella, the link didn't work.

I think I wrote about it in that thread, but Coco is my chocolate lab's name. CocoLion is her nickname. She was first "Cocolein" as a puppy (anyone who knows German will understand that use of the diminutive), but she grew so big, so quickly that she soon became CocoLion.

My formal name is Marlene. I was named after a young woman who was one of my Mom and Dad's students (they were both teachers when I was born.) Throughout my life, I have been both Marley and Marlene. My parents and one sister have always called me Marlene. My other sister and most friends growing up called me Marley. When I went to undergraduate school I was usually Marlene. My bro always calls me Mar. In graduate school I used my formal name and in my professional life after completing my degree I also used Marlene. About half of my adult friends now call me Marley and half of them call me Marlene. I'm so confused! (Hahahah - not really! - I don't mind - to me they sound so much alike, that I don't really think about it a whole lot!)

I had the email address CF at gmail for years before joining YLF (basically just for spam). I can't remember why I chose cinnamon fern in the first place, though - the plant has not played an important role in my life.

If I could have a do-over I would just use my real first name, Antonia.

I was the first grandchild & named after my maternal grandmother. My grandfather used to call her "Cara mia Caro" which I loved

Mine is a silly nickname my mother called me sometimes when I was a little girl, to sort of rhyme with my real name, Marcy.
I suppose if I were starting over here I would just use my actual name instead of a pseudonym, but I was a little worried about privacy when I signed up.

My real name is Shannon and Transcona is the suburb I live in and the part of Winnipeg my husband is from. I'm from a very, very small community about an hour north of Winnipeg and I fell in love with Transcona because it's got a very small town feel to it and is full of blue-collar, hard working, "regular" kind of people.

My first name is Carla ( no big surprise I am sure). My tech savy son helped me set up some accounts independant of the 'family' accounts. A defining thing in my life has been my love of running (since I was 13 yrs) even if I was not gifted.

So like Forest Gump who was told to 'run Forest' and had some defining moments in his life, I am 'runcarla' -- running since I was 13 and soon to be 53!

Well Deborah is my real name and right from the beginning here I felt it was safe to use my real name. And it was too hard to think up something clever lol. However for all other things that I require a login I use Queenbead... Wich is the name I use for the jewellery I make:)
