Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies!
OK. Here's the skinny. I don't own any tops in red, purple, turquoise, salmon, cobalt or leopard. I do own gray, but it doesn't seem to go -- not to my eye, at least. But maybe you have to have the right shade of gray. None of my gray tops look good with it. And orange with camel reminds me of 1970s interior decor...not my thing.
I don't like it with green, but then maybe I don't have the right shade of green.
Declawedjaguar: I've got one navy top that does, yes, go well -- why didn't I think of that? Thanks!
LegacyOfPearl: I tried a bright pink top with it, and you know what, I think you're right. It does go.
modgrl: you're right, too. The saturated pink, plus the dark navy, brown and black all go. Lighter colours don't, and I don't own any tops in pastel anyway.
I still think it looks most sophisticated with black or navy. Mo, you're right, white would look sophisticated, too, but white tops, sadly, make me look like I've got the flu. I might try to find a cream one at some point -- that might be a good substitute.
ETA: cjh -- my skirt is from a local Vancouver boutique called Smoking Lily. It's a narrow a-line with a box pleat in the front. Here's the link, but the picture doesn't do it justice (and I don't think it goes with the light gray top they've got it paired with!)
