WIW 1/2 and 1/3: Variations on a theme

Monday, January 2, we walked up the street to where they park the floats after the Rose Parade and took a look around. I ended up not being all that happy with my outfit but I did enjoy seeing a "neutral" leopard made out of flowers on a float!

Aqua skinnies: Levi's
Coral silk tee: Jones New York
Aqua/pink/brown/olive zigzag print scarf: Veronica M
Cognac boots: Aldo
Straw bag and sunnies: Gap
Hat: Boutique in San Diego

Yesterday I went back to work and decided to try again with a variation on the theme of that scarf with a turquoise bottom. Plus I wanted to bust out my new white button-front shirt from J. Crew, with which I am super happy because it actually fits without bustal gappage!! I was a lot happier with this look than with the previous day's look. In hindsight I probably should have belted over the blazer. What do you think?

You look like a pretty fab parade watcher to me. I love #3 and 4 both. I would like steal look #3 but I do not own the famous seamed Halogen skirt (not in this colour or any other). Then there's the shoes, the shoes, the shoes....love, love.love!

A variation of the second outfit made my top 2011 looks! I love that turquoise skirt, that is sooo your color!! YLFFFF!! That is all I can say. Love both of these looks!.

I think the addition of the bag for the parade outfit makes it perfect - the extra netural and texture adds some interest to the middle. Sorry you didn't like it, though. :T

Love #2 and that fab turquoise skirt! I don't think you need a belt because the scarf hangs down over the waistline anyway.

You do color so well, have you thought about maybe a brown topper , kinda bookened the boots??with the scarf and the skinnies, for #1, A version of fab #4? maybe that would feel better to you. I think you look great at the parade.

Thanks, ladies! I actually felt good at the float viewing but less so when I looked at the photos. Something about the hat (which was a necessity because it was high 80s and SUNNY!) and the way I draped the scarf.

Suz -- we watched the parade on TV before going to see the floats afterwards, and when I saw the leopard on TV I told DH, "We have to find that float, and you have to take my picture with that leopard for the YLF ladies!" And he said, "Right. Because leopard is a neutral!" ROFL

The scarf is beyond fab MaryK! And each time you post an outfit I think it's my new favourite - that pic #4 is AMAZING! I'm really loving the nude shoe - I think I'm going to replace the red pumps on my spring 2012 purchase list with nude pumps - so beautiful and leg lengthening.

#1-I like the colors mixed here. Perhaps the t-shirt is a tad on the shorter side in length and that's what threw off the outfit for you? I'd like to see an inch or so longer. This one looks more skirt friendly with the length.

#4-I like this without the belt. The scarf would cover up a belt and the belt could potentially snag the scarf anyway.

Lisa, I think you're right! I was looking at photos 1 and 2 and I think the top is too short for the skinny jeans! Mystery solved...

I was also going to suggest that the tee in #1/2 looks a bit short for pants. For the scarf though, I vote messy instead of draped LOVE #3/4, this is such a gorgeous color combination. I think the blazer looks fine beltless. And have to say WHAT a cool heel on those nude pumps!

I agree about the top length in #1 to be on the short side. However #3-4 are great - and no belt is needed IMO.
I envy your ability to look cool in pencil skirts - I don't feel the same way in them...
