What gets you the most compliments?

The "highlight you or the clothes" post made me wonder - what aspect of yourself gets the most compliments? And what item of clothing?

For me, it is undoubtedly my hair... people comment on the cut all the time. I'm not sure why, as it's not that unusual, but something about the sharp angle draws attention. As for clothing, I get tons of compliments on my fake astrakan coat, which is sort of vintage-y and formal. And boots also get a lot of attention in my boot-oriented environment.

If we are talking about appearance only, I get most complements for my eyes my smile, and my athletic slim figure. In terms of clothing, I get complements on most everything, but hand knit sweaters are definite drawers of compliments.

Mine is always my jewelry. I do have some unique things made by my jeweler friend.

As for me...was always my skin. Sadly, less so lately! Now I get more of the "great for 55" type of compliment.

Without question, my hair. People often ask where I get it cut.

My smile gets comments also.

When it comes to clothing, people tend to say things about my overall outfit or appearance rather than comment on specific items. No doubt this reflects my penchant for buying essentials rather than statements. Sigh.

Although my Hi-Ness Cons do attract quite a bit of attention.

For appearance, I hear the most compliments on my eyes, hair and hands/nails, but lately I've been getting compliments on my skin, which is just weird, because I'm almost 50 and am acquiring age spots at a dismaying rate. I guess other people aren't seeing them, or my tinted moisturizer is doing a good job of masking them.

As for what I wear, I get the most compliments on footwear. Bags and jackets rank up there too.

My hair would drawer the most compliments from strangers. Women approach me in the supermarket, school ground and ask where I have it done I like that because I am so particular about my hair. DH can spot them know and he will nudge me and warn me I am about to be approached

I am also complimented on my skin and that I look younger than my age...but that might just be a reflection of my lack of maturity at times lol.

Clothing wise I receive compliments on how I wear black. My boots get compliments but to be honest I am in an environment where compliments are few and far between re clothing. I do like it when people say "you look nice" because I think that means the 'whole package" works, i.e. clothes and the person.

Una I would compliment you on your hair too! Its stunning.

I tend to get the most comments on my hair. For things I wear, it's usually my glasses, which are metal frames and lime green. People on the street have stopped me to tell me how much they like them!

Aspect of myself - eyes and hair.
Item of clothing - usually my footwear - Jeffrey Campbell ivory booties, Jeffrey Campbell black pointed toe pumps, Target animal print slip-on sneakers, etc.

Aspect of myself: hair and smile (esp if they see me when I'm *not* smiling as well; I admit it's pretty transformative).

Thing I wear: specs (but I wear them every day so people certainly see them the most often); bright colored coats.

Also I have gotten a surprising number of compliment on my engagement ring. (surprising because who looks at your hands? But apparently people notice when you hand them your credit card at a shop, and things like that). It is an uncommon heart shaped diamond, which is probably why.

ETa: oddly, the crazy pants get way less comments than you might think. Maybe people are scared to say anything!

Also hair here. I get the most comments within a week or two of a salon visit. I've given my hairdressers name out so many times, she owes me a free cut and color. If I don't get any comments, then I know it's time to tweak things with the color. I do get comments on the cut itself - but more often, it's about the color.

Clothing wise, shoes & bags. And I don't think my shoes & bags are anything particularly special.

I still get the "I can't believe you have children that age" comment -- but less and less. And I am okay with that! I went from "you're the older sister" to "you're the nanny/babysitter" to "I can't believe you have children that age" to "you look pretty decent for your age" -- which is just perfect!

Interesting to think about. I realize I actually get a lot of good comments about my "fit" figure which now that I think of it is quite satisfying as I do "put in the hard yards". Don't get me wrong, I enjoy keeping active but it's a nice bonus when people notice.

I have a neutral closet of clean lined clothing but my "sparkly camo" ankle boots (bought because they were so comfy and I wanted to try Angie's concept of wild card) have garnered numerous compliments this season. Everyone including my doctor, MIL, random people in stores. Amazing!

Last season it was my faux fur lined Michael Michael Kors suede vest. I guess I need to branch out a little more! I liked that article in the weekly links a little while ago quoting Michael Kors that women need roughly 30% statement and 70% Essentials to have workable wardrobes so I plan to look at this in an analytical way in my own closet.

My footwear & my hair then my jackets/coats. I get a lot of comments along the lines of - I wish my mum/grandmother dressed more like you - from younger women. I tell them I think my daughter probably wishes I dressed more like their mothers

I get a lot of compliments on my eyes. I've gotten several compliments on going dark with my hair.

For clothes, I get a lot of compliments on the Steve Madden boots.

Me: definitely hair and eyes, and oddly my upper arms from other women my age. Toned upper arms are are rarity, it seems, in my age group. Also my butt--apparently it is still in good shape, but, since I don't see myself from behind, I'll have to take others' opinions on that one.

Clothes: definitely my boots and footwear; just the other day, I had a street person compliment me on my laced Fluevog boots. And my leather jackets get a fair number of "I love that jacket" remarks. A turquoise leather Danier one seems to get a lot of love from the younger set.

I get comments on my specs too!

Personal: Skin, hair and name (as if I have control over what my parents chose to call me, lol). People say I look much younger than I actually am.

Clothing: Jewelry, particularly my wedding ring set.

My skin and that I do not look my age. But this has ben true since I was five, I think. On the clothing side, my glasses and my footwear. Oh, and for some reason I get comment on my legs.

Hair for sure : I don't think the cut because I only get it done a couple times a year. I think it 's the color and the thickness. But at the same time I know some people really hate my hair. (I don't care about them.. ha !)

Age : I am offered Senior's discount regularly which I happily accept but am annoyed with. So I think I at least look my age ( or significantly more ! )

Figure : Often told I look like I run or workout. Once in a while I guess. (Am often pulled into running by rather large dog. )

Coats : I have many for some reason. I keep them close to the body and usually bright. (My way of rebelling against winter )

I get compliments on my hair, eyes, and height.
Footwear (thanks to YLF knowledge) and vintage jewelry also generate compliments.

Perhaps it's the Irish-Catholic in me; I'm having a hard time responding to this thread But here goes. I don't think I get too many compliments on specifics; I do get told that I am pretty, which is very kind. Also, I am fairly slim and people mention this.
I am sure every compliment mentioned above is both modestly stated and well-deserved!

Hmmm....my hair, I guess. I have a lot of it and it behaves very well. And lately, I have been getting a lot of comments that I do not look my age.

interesting how we all get compliments on our hair hmmm....now I need to come up with something else! Appearance wise - it's hair every time. My stylist can take credit for that (and doing what I tell her - lol). Fit figure up until recently but whatever...

Clothing-wise? Coats and boots/shoes all the time.

Hmm. I don't get a lot of compliments. Maybe a few comments about being fit. But often it's an underhanded comment about what else would you do as a mom at home with kids at school. Nice to see that others get a lot of compliments

Jackie, I will give you a compliment! You are drop dead gorgeous. So there. And if I had to pick one feature to focus on besides your willowy figure, I would say your eyes are amazing.

Una, I adore your hair, too.

It's really interesting how many of us get compliments on our hair. Thus proving Angie's theory that hairstyle is KEY to personal style and one of the best updaters.

I think it's also because so many of us have experienced bad hair days and we are always on the lookout for the style that will make them a thing of the past!

I think it's becoming clearer and clearer that I need more statement items. The last item I can remember garnering any compliments was the Halogen striped pleated midi, which I last wore in late September...

Hehe, fun thread. I don't really know the answer, though. People rarely comment on my physical features individually. I think I've got one of those everyman faces where nothing stands out, but the overall effect is all right. Sometimes people comment on the whole package.

For clothes I can't really answer either. I've got about eight pairs of shoes and boots that get a lot of comments. Also coats. When I had scarlet streaks in my hair, people commented incessantly on that (unsurprisingly). The skull ring gets many comments too (also unsurprisingly!).

I get compliments every time I wear the color coral, I guess because it lights up my face. But these days I don't want to wear coral. At all. It feels too girly, and all I want to wear is gray.

Jackie, agree with Suz. You are really lovely and your style is too. Honestly, I feel sometimes beautiful women get fewer compliments because others assume they must hear it all the time. And the un-beautiful among us (and I'm counting myself in this group) are in the same boat. I had this discussion recently with my siblings due to my reunion. Does anyone feel good about themselves with no outside validation at all? Are mirrors the worst thing to happen to us?

I get compliments on my hair (but less so since I cut it short) and eyes. Also my shoes and jewelry. I really don't get a lot of compliments, maybe because as an engineer I work with lots of men and they don't give compliments.

My newish glasses frames have been a hit. It's been fun for me as I shopped harder for them, than I ever have for new frames. All due to Angie & YLF for sure. And the people paying the compliments have been glasses wearers themselves who understand the effort involved. Also a J Crew sweater with zippers has been complimented more than I would have expected. But in my life as a whole, it's my dog, Smokey, who really racks up the compliments. He's very tough competition!
