Bumping again, as I only saw about your last year purchase of that "fairly expensive long black knit midi" which you NEVER WORE. And had a quick and sharp/!) deja vu. End of summer, when all this midi trend got available in my neck of the woods, too- my first purchase in the trend was exactly the same. Big fault!:-((
Mine was not that expensive(just H&M-nr 1-2) but a heavier rib knit, midi, black and very flatering A line cut with a certain good weight-so at least didn't look cheap-still-it stood in my closet for 3 weeks till returning, and I am so sooo happy Idid it.
Exchanged it for a black and cream striped pleated midi(nr 3)-which I love and wore to theatre in the holidays.
I also have a grey glenncheck pleated midi(4) which was doing fine for the office/and fall. And, recently bought a white and grey windowpanes pleated one for the spring/summer(nr 5) which I can't wait to wear with a simple black tee/top.
Turns out the fact that I have 2 black (both somehow textured and fairly fitted) knee length knitted pencils/tubes which I wore to death with black sheers and booties/patent loafers to work with all sorts of patterned tops and jacket/blazers/cardis- does not mean a black ribbed midi will serve me as well as those. It was end of summer when bought it (and looked good with my bare legs and slides when trying it at home:-)) but comes darker fall/winter mornings- it simply was all off- proportions? or too much of a heavier fabric? or too much deep black(?-but black is my essential neutral and love it!!) but this made me feel frumpy/dumpy, old and tired- no matter what top I tried to lighten it with. Tried column of color and contrasts, fitted or looser, nothing worked....
I LOVE black, but this time DID NOT work!:-).
