.....YES. I'm gloating, just a little bit.

I had a hunch wide crops would grow on people after a hectic resistance by most for what seemed like too long. It's happening on the forum, in the blog, and with my clients. Wide crops will probably be mainstream next year and you'll be soooo much more used to the silhouette.

Remember when skinnies took over from bootcuts about ten years ago? Remember the resistance? And then the love affair. Not a dissimilar thing.

(In my line of work, I see this happen over and over again, and quite enjoy the myriad of reactions that change over time).

You know, I saw my first pair of wide crops on the street this past week! Besides me, that is I mean, like on a young person, a college student.

Funny, even though I know how popular they are, I still don't really see people wearing wlc's here in Denver. I think the thing is, maybe they wear them to work, and I only see people out and about in the evenings or shopping in the daytime. And let me tell you, the only things people here (mostly) wear casually (day) are workout leggings and frumpy jeans and t's. I sometimes wonder how the stores other than Athleta stay in biz. Angie, on this one, I'm not so positive (energy,) lol!

When we see them in the Khols, Target, macys, and maybe wallmart adds, I will see people around here wearing them. older women around here shop at Chicos and Stein Mart. by the crowds I see in Marshalls, I think a lot of people shop there too.

I saw a friend at the Opera, and she looked fantastic in her wide leg outfit but she looks wonderful in everything she wears. I've also seen several of the more adventurous women wearing wide legs at cultural events, so they at least are adopting this style in my desert city.

The difficulty for me with wide crops is two fold- I am neither tall nor thin. There are certain looks that will never be flattering on my proportions and this is one of them. I just don't feel in wide leg pants as I don't have the height to pull them off.

The other challenge- particularly when paired with white sneakers- is that it's a look still very much favored by women who are dressing for comfort and practicality, not fashion. I see so many women (my mother in law, for one) who for years been wearing pull on cropped pants paired with sensible white walking shoes. I can't bring myself to wear something that feels so similar to that look.

Target had an ad with wide leg cropped jeans on FB that I saw just this morning. It's catching on!

Nice. I think these pants can look good on anybody but we really need some lower-rise options. It does seem like they're all high-rise.

I can't wait for my second pair to show up! Back ordered from Everlane so they must be trendy. The Gap has a lot of great options too so I think you're right - they've at least tiptoed into the mainstream.

After a few weeks of effort I'm getting better at choosing tops that go well with wide leg crops.

Up until the past couple days, it was too cold here to even think about cropped anything. I'll be curious to see if any of the college students are wearing this silhouette once spring really hits. I doubt I'll see it on locals anytime soon.

Personally, I'm glad to see the pants marketplace diversifying. I love wide legs and high rises. Ten years of skinny-everything was very hard for some of us!

Susie, it's not a problem. You're a fashionista. Wear a dressy pair with heels. You need a petite pair that's more structured on the hips and thighs, and not too long.

Oh oh, thanks Susie, now I'll never look at this post the same way again. It was the summer look for my mother and all of her co-horts in the senior's complex she lived in: cotton/poly "capris" with comfort shoes. In lovely shades of faux-denim, mint green, maybe an indeterminate shade of beige, and the omnipresent white. Co-ordinating striped t-shirt with maybe a touch of floral embroidery. Gah.

Big fan of drapey wide-legs here (they're nice and cool in summer), but not cropped. The cropping ruins the look on me. I look like I have elephant legs!!

I think they will go mainstream especially for summer. If not this summer, for sure next year. I want a pair in linen. This will be something to watch for on the sale racks to snap up before they get popular.

I am still not convinced. I never liked a-line skirt on me and this seems to have very similar shape. But I have to admit that I was admiring a women today that was wearing beautiful tobacco color wide crops with bright blue linen shirt and tan heels. But she was also thin and tall

I wasn't going to bother, but then my white-denim sugar eye lured the Madewell's into my cart at NR. And that was that.

At first, I wore them using your flattery maximization tips, but then I went with comfort, and it still looks fine. Was a bit sheepish to see how far back you'd been preaching these, Angie! About 18 months before I took the plunge.

(OTOH, I've never worn skinnies. Straight-leg is as narrow as worked for me. Even boyfriend style requires radically accepting extreme accentuation of ITness and the ice-cream cone effect.)

Skinnies aren't my thing so I've felt like a fashion outcast for years, sitting that one out. So excited to play with a new look that is trending and that has potential to suit.

You know, I tried last year's crop flares with a lot of hope and they weren't quite right on me. But am swooning over this softer silhouette and hope the pant-shape pendulum takes a rest in this vicinity so I can enjoy for more than one season.

Randomly, I was in Manhattan for a few hours this past weekend ((Midtown and UES), and then on a university campus in CT. Admittedly, I was more focused on the people I was visiting than watching fashion trends, but it sure didn't jump out at me that this is the Next Big Thing.
Maybe it's starting on the west coast first?

Well, I love the look. I have the J Crew jeans on their way, and bought the BR plaid ones a while ago. And last summer/fall I grabbed some faded denim culottes, which aren't quite the same things, but close. Can't wait for it to be warm enough to wear them!

Maybe I'll be the east coast trend setter. LOL.

Angie, do you think this will have the longevity of skinnies? When I was in college everyone was wearing gaucho-type pants but it only lasted about a year (2004-5).

I'm liking the look of the cropped wide pants. I have ordered a dark denim for home from J Crew, which I am looking forward to. And I've two dressy pairs for work, both Karen Millen. Somehow, they feel less dressy than a skirt, and more dressy than trousers.

I don't see that many pairs where I live, but where I work, there are more and more. For me, the drape of the fabric is important. And proportion.

I can only say thank you Angie and fabbers for introducing them and the encouragement.

You deserve your moment of gloating! It's always: the initial resistance and the eventual love affair. Reminds me of meeting my husband. And also ruffles. And skinny jeans. And zippers on everything. And empire waist dresses. The list is so lengthy - You'd think I'd learn by now!
