The universe is throwing coats at me

Dear universe,

Why do you provide me with four potential coats that fit and are flattering all at the same time, when I can't buy them all and don't need that many?

1) After a year of searching and an ill advised Kate Spade purchase on ebay, a perfectly fitting trench shows up.

2) I don't need a pea coat. Even if the orange version looks spectacular and the green version, which would also suit my coloring perfectly is 50% off.

3) I've been thinking about this moto jacket since I tried it on at NAS, even though the forum didn't like it. I've ordered it and will try restyling it open/with scarves, etc.

4) Forum approved denim jacket in an earlier post.

Number 1 is fantastic! I like 3 too, and I bet it will look nice with a scarf.

After all, they all are very different styles of coats. I know can't wear the same coat every day!

Huh. That's how it goes, isn't it? They all look great and serve very distinct wardrobe functions so you could get them all...

I particularly like the trench.

If I can afford it, I feel justified going on a shopping binge like that because things really do tend to appear in either a feast or famine way. Maybe this is your year for coats!

Yup. The same thing happens to me. It is similar to shopping for something for a specific event and seeing nothing of interest. After the event you go shopping for recreation and find a trunk full of beauties. Murphy's law at work.

I love #1 and #3. Number 2 is very pretty too but the first and third would serve different purposes so you could easily justify getting both.

I found this same syndrome the other day when I stopped in Anthro to make a return and check out some tops. Every. Single. Item. I tried on worked, to some degree or another. I've gone in there other times and had not a single thing look even passable.

Even the SA commented on it. She helped me decide which items to try and which to leave behind for now. But I tried on that adorable red coat with the lace-up back that goldenpig has, and everyone who walked in the dressing room area commented on it. So it came home with me. Even though I have a full coat closet. I do have one old coat in mind that can go to a new home, though, so I will stick with my one-in one-out rule!

It seems to happen that way doesn't it? I missed your earlier post on #3, but I have to say I really like it. I think you could easily justify #1 and #3 purchases because they satisfy 2 completely different needs. <<enabling>> . but true.

I love #1 and #3. I don't know why the forum didn't like it, but more importantly, when something grinds into your brain it's good to revisit it and see if it's as wonderful as you thought.

I think you can pass on #2, personally.

Thanks for all the feedback and empathy. Unfortunately, I really, really can't justify buying all four, or even three of four.

#1 is going to come live with me at *gulp* full price but I'm going to have to return #4 to make that happen.
#2 is a pass.
#3 will be styled and photographed in a new thread when it arrives.

I think it will be easier to find a decent denim jacket again, certainly much easier than the great trench hunt of 2011.

I think you made all the right decisions. You've been looking for #1 for YEARS, so of course it must be yours. And #3 has been stuck in your mind long enough for a second try - I like it, FWIW.

Ha! You had me with the title--I am a total coats girl. To be honest I like 2 and 3 best, even though more reliable people say otherwise. I actually think the leather jacket is pretty awesome because it has kind of a denim/distressed quality to it. Just be sure the colors go with your complexion (which I can't see).
