The Poncho- friend or foe?

I'm considering a poncho, I've narrowed it down to 3 but I'm truly torn on what will compliment my plus sized frame and large chest? I'm a 14/16, apple shape with a full bust and I'm 5'4 so I don't even have the glorious height some of the plus models have to pull off a poncho! Any thoughts on which one might be the most flattering? Or an alternate suggestion is also welcome. Thanks in advance!

Possibly the second one with the V neckline. The asymmetrical hem will also slim the apple bits. The length does not look like it would not overwhelm your height.

Poncho definitely friend lol

I love the second one. Very similar to my own. I'm large busted, 5ft2 and US size 6/8. The nice fine knit and minimal styling would look lovely I think.

I'm with you, Faith, on the crush. I really thought you were taller, Deborah. Good to know. Faith I like #2 a lot as the others do. #1 looks like it might be a little long but I like the open front which might keep the fabric from overwhelming you? Just a thought.

I've really thought about a poncho but that's an item I would insist I have to knit myself and, well, there's a long list ahead of it.

I hope you can buy at least two of your choices and style them with your clothes before choosing.

I have this one and I think Jenn has it, too. It seems like the third option you've proposed. I like that it is asymmetrical, which I think can be flattering on a lot of body types. Also it's very lightweight, so not overwhelming.

Like Firecracker, I have one like #3 in a slightly transparent knit which reduces the overwhelm for my 157cm frame. I also have one that allows the v-point to be the centre which also elongates the body.

Personally speaking, I wear my open front ponchos (like #1) much more often than ones that I have to pull over my head. Would that be an issue for you?

I wear the wool blend poncho in my find below 3 seasons...love the shade too.

Just last week, the California -based sales manager of a new fashion and accessories line I am representing showed us a really neat trick when wearing one of the open-front wrap/ponchos that Cheryl shows above. You can tie the corners of the front and back together on each side to create a little armhole, thereby really shortening the poncho...which works well for shorter women. I am so literal, it had never occurred to me to do that. I tried it today in fact and it worked really well. I'm not super short, but am heavier in the chest and short-waisted so I can look like a bar fridge if I'm not careful...

Is the third one EF? I own that one if it is. I'm 5' 3" and I guess you would say average size (between a C and D cup) and I think it works fine on someone who is a bit shorter in stature.

Friend! I love ponchos and wear them all the time, particularly in the fall and spring. I prefer the asymmetrical type (#3) but I think there's probably a flattering style for every body type. Also, I'm 5'5" and don't find them overwhelming.

I also have a similar one to your third option and that is also a good option. I find it just has a slight fuss factor with the way the neckline sits but I usually don't worry too much. Truly either 2 or 3 would be great.

And love LisaP's suggestion re tying the ends !

I own three ponchos , the one I wear the most is like #3. It is cashmere and not overwhelming . However I do tend to struggle with what to wear underneath them. I never seem to have the right thing so that if I remove the poncho I still like my outfit.

Thanks everyone! I ordered 2 & 3 and will see what I can pull off! Lisa that's an excellent idea, I once went to a wedding where my lack of pizzazz annoyed my tablemate and she showed me how to tie my pashmina just like you described, I love doing it to cover my arms but never thought about doing it with an open poncho and now feel like I should have ordered number 1 to try it out! Gail, I also worry about what to wear underneath but someone earlier included previous posts Angie had done with ponchos so I'm copying that until I feel more confident.
