The BR Fall Capsule 2013 (Pic Heavy)

First of all, my apologies for being absent for a couple of weeks without giving notice. Life caught up on me all of a sudden. I've been preoccupied with a lot of work and also a fall break that included some traveling. I've been reading posts here, but had no chance to comment on much. I'm sorry!

Suz challenged me to create my version of the BR fall capsule, and how could I resist? First, I made a few decisions:

No fantasy life outfits
Suitable for my climate and lifestyle (the need for warmer outerwear, no pumps at work in daytime etc)
Work appropriate (or work related, like conferences, retreats with dinner/drinks etc)
A selection of accessories, footwear and bags (The black/brown bag is newly thrifted)
Incorporate a few loved, but little worn pieces
Color scheme: Purple, blue, white and grey with accents of brown and black.

This set of guidelines will allow outfits that are more casual than the average corporate outfit, because that's how business life is here in Norway.

#1 The pieces:
I had all the pieces but a graphic sweater. However, yesterday I bought one with an enlarged leopard pattern, oversized and with a high/low hem. It has a high neckline and raglan sleeves. The back is plain brown. I also chose:

A pinstriped shirt in blue with white facing on collar and cuffs
White jeans
Dark navy bootlegged wool trousers (thrifted)
Dark purple v-neck sweater
Bright purple sheath (thrifted, needs more love)
Grey tweed blazer (needs more love)
Full wool skirt, plum (thrifted)
Red coat for more warmth

I added high heeled black boots, Chelsea boots, brown heeled booties, black pumps and blue wedges. I used a brown/black structured bag or a fuchsia clutch. I also used a plaid scarf, a black beanie, brown leather gloves and some jewelry to style the outfits.

#2-5: The outfits compared to the BR ones. I copied some more literally than others, and a few not at all. I also made a few versions that are different. Here you find them compared as "thumbnails".

#6-14: My outfits based on/inspired by the capsule. If you want to study anything in more detail, these pics are for you.

What I learned:

My purple sheath is a lot more versatile than I thought, and the white jeans are going strong into deep fall! I also LOVE the navy wide legged pants with the Chelsea boots.

ETA: I also re-learned that Suz is a great inspiration, and capsules are great fun

Oh my goodness, I knew you would do this challenge proud, but I could not have guessed how brilliantly you'd execute it! This is sensational, Ingunn. Absolutely stunning. You look wonderful in every outfit -- I like this better than your original fall capsule, in fact -- and what fabulous choices you've made.

The purple sheath and the new sweater, in particular, are fantastic on you, and combining them just adds to the fun. I also love your cheeky hat!

I love how you have interpreted this for your climate and needs. You have truly made it work. Thank you for being such a sport to take up the challenge, and showing us all how it is done.

I would love to compare this to the first BR thread you did -- I think if you did so, you'd see so much development in a year. Even though that first capsule was also fantastic, this one is so much more assured and "Ingunn."

Thank you, sweet Ceit, Suz and Shevia! I think this was great fun, and the graphic sweater was an addition I've wanted to make for some time, so thanks for giving me an opportunity to get it sorted. To be honest, I didn't particularly like the BR capsule very much this time, but the mix of silhouettes they have used is key to create a very versatile capsule in one's own colors and patterns. In fact, some of the outfits in my own version feel very fresh and fab to me, and will definitely become FFBO's this fall.

Suz, the first BR capsule I did is here, and I agree - I have developed a more personal and defined style since then. I would wear some of these still, but not all of them. I'm obviously also more used to expose myself in outfit posts now, look at my face

I'm curious - what do you all think of the black and brown bag?

Well done Ingunn. I love the purple dress and especially how the cut works to layer under a sweater. I didn't realize it was a dress and not a skirt in the fourth pic at first.

You totally made this workable! I love your commitment to "No fantasy outfits for fantasy lives". I think a lot of times, retailers think we're all living that life! I loved the items in the BR capsule, but didn't realize I had so many of these basic foundations in my own wardrobe until looking at your interpretation. Thanks so much!

I didn't realize that you had so much purple! Brilliant to switch out purple for red here, even though red is also fab for you.

Love the new graphic sweater and the bag. The bag does look a little "lightweight" here. I'm guessing that's because nothing is in it?

How comfortable is layering as in 14 for your work days? I often feel "strangle" by too much layering, as well as hot, but it looks so good!

Missey, you're so kind. Thank you! Yes, I do re-discover a few pieces when I do the capsules. To me, being confined by the limits others have made (ie the capsule), forces me to be more creative with what I have, and thus, I re-discover some of my pieces. In this case both the purple v-neck, the sheath and the blazer will probably get more wear because of the outcome today. I also never buy anything I don't easily can fit in with what I already have, which makes mixing things up a lot easier later.

Von, thank you! I agree, the suggestions in shops, mags and on blogs often apply to a very limited way of life (urban office kind of lifestyle, in a temperate climate).

Beth Ann, we double posted! This is about all the purple I have I got the idea from the dress in the original capsule, and I knew I needed two distinctly different silhouettes - hence flared skirt plus sheath. An alternative could of course be the red pencil plus the red fit and flare-dress. Besides, you must be bored to death with my red dress by now, so I felt for a change.

If I layer, I normally will remove any jackets while at my desk. I much prefer knitwear to blazers when working in my office, but I gladly add a jacket for meetings and presentations. When I was teaching, I always had to remove a lot of layers, or else I would run very hot.

I think the bag works beautifully, actually. The cognac somewhat echoes your hair and so it is always cohesive.

Yes, what a change between that first capsule and this one! The outfits in that first capsule are also great -- but not as great as these -- and your comfort level is clearly higher now.

I am hoping to try a version of this, too, but I won't be able to do it at least until Monday due to holiday commitments here.

There is no end to the killer brilliance of Queen Capsule. You WOW me, Ingunn.

I love the caramel, white and black jumper. #11 and #14 are my faves because of that pullover. But you look sensational in all your incredible outfits. A joy for us to behold.

I know how much hard work this is, and can't believe how many great outfits you got! Good for you for tweaking it to your personal needs. I think this is why my version last year (same one you first tried) fell flat for me. I don't think I would, or did, wear a single one of the outfits I copied. They just weren't me or useful for my lifestyle. But you went right for what would work for you, and didn't force an exact cookie cutter copy, but used it as inspiration. Resulting in a useful capsule that will actually be worn - Well done!
