Taking the pearls on the road: Calgary 1.22

Nothing chunky going on here pearl-wise but I did pack my new favourite vintage pearls for my quick trip in and out of Calgary . It's taken me years to perfect my travel outfit -adapting to changing security standards, and how long some of the terminals now are in the airports I frequent .....and I'm pretty pleased with this rendition. It fits in with today's casual-wear with pearls ensemble, so here are a few pics taken in the hotel room this morning. I had another pair of dressier jeans with me, but had them on all day yesterday so wore these instead for the flight home. This outfit is easily adapted to more professional days by switching out the jeans for black bottoms. The coat was a total lucky splurge (50% off one day in December) , but it's already paid for itself in how versatile and easy it is to wear . Warm enough for what I need it for . Anyways - thanks for the opportunity to post a pearl outfit , and I always welcome your comments, jokes, constructive critique and general messages. xo

Lisa, I didn't have a chance to comment on your previous pearl post, but wanted to tell you that it warms my heart that you are so enjoying wearing your dear Mum's pearls AND that you are finding new ways to wear pearls and make them your very own.
They suit you so well, I really love the juxtaposition between the pretty, ladylike pearls and your minimalist fashion-forward outfits.

They look super here with the open neckline of your black top, dark jeans and those fab sneakers. And how amazing is that coat! Elegant Sporty Luxe!!

A very stylish, but practical, travel outfit, Lisa! But, then, I would say that since my preferred travel outfit is almost identical. Just swap the cropped jeans for a longer length and your tote for my Le Pilage and we are totally in sync--right down to the EF coat and the SALT eyewear!

And I'm copying the look of your pearls in the V-neck. I've been thinking about wearing mine again, but pairing them with my higher-necked sweaters just hasn't appealed to me. Love them, though, with the deep V. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love, love, love everything about your look!!! Simple, yet so chic, classy, funky and modern! You've inspired me to shop my own closet to somewhat imitate your look. Imitation is a form of flattery, right? I have almost the identical glasses (my favourite and most frequently worn pair), the jeans, the black vneck top, and even an Eileen Fisher coat. The only thing is my coat is black and might make the look too dark overall. My hair is pretty dark as well. Anyhoo...you look fantastic! I get the sense from the photos, that you have truly figured out, feel at home in, and are 'at peace with' a style that is truly 'you'. Love that.

angie - thanks very much! I am thrilled to death with this coat. Did not go out looking for it at all, but here again is one benefit to knowing a boutique owner and being a supportive client (we discussed this on a returning-to-stores thread earlier in the week) - she offered it to me at 50% off, as she had ordered it for herself and it didn't fit. It was a one-off, and not even on my radar. The sneakers were the same - another boutique (one who has offered me a job, and I'm a little freaked out trying to figure out if there is room in my life for another job), I have become a friend of the owner, and she spotted me trying them on for fun , and offered them to me at 25% off. They are also worth every penny.

deborah - i had to take the plunge into progressive lenses after wearing prescription reading glasses for years. You'll shudder, but I'm actually in bare feet in these shoes (well, I have those little lace foot cover things on) . I am not a fan of hosiery with sneakers. It just doesn't look authentic to me - as much as that sounds annoyingly pretentious. It was 6C in Calgary yesterday and today - very little snow and I was inside all day with the exception of walking from a cab to the front door of the mall, the office I was at, and the airport. I didn't feel cold or weird at all. ( I wouldn't wear them outside in any inclement weather or real amount of snow because of the leather /snake and white inner sole area. ) I am just not a fan of socks with runners, or stockings and pumps. I"d rather wait for the weather to improve and go barefoot inside them ( or with those little sockette things ).

Love this, Lisa! The little bits of distressing on the denim are a great counter point to the pearls and sleek hair/make up. LOVE the random neck thing, so glam (and so light colored) Photo #2 made me eep right out loud. Your make up feels a bit sporty today and works remarkably well with this outfit, especially with the bold glasses on.

Thanks all, makeup with glasses is a new little challenge. I've been careful to tone down the eyeliner when I will be wearing them all day - based on something I read online somewhere . Eyes are of course magnified in glasses, and liner under the eyes is dodgy at my age with glasses. Thank you Anna for the eyebrow comment. I had microblading done a couple of months ago and am pretty happy with it. I have very little eyebrow hair , and what is left is greying like crazy , and this has helped tremendously.
