NancyLee! You are gorgeous! Do you realize? Your outfits are so way awesome.

I want to say "Malibu Preppy" except I'm worried you'd feel insulted. But you are so gorgeous and have this easy free simple thing going on that I associate with the beach... but you are refined and business-like, not *dude-ette.*

I love Elegant Eclectic! The eclectic part is down pat and the elegant part is a goal

Gaylene, are you secretly my older sister? You keep nailing my feelings and ideas before I can even articulate them. I am so curious to see your style, because by description, we share a lot in common!

I think Urban Pretty may be where I am heading...but I'm not 100% sure. Some days I wish to be a Simple Lady and on other days I wish to add a bit more GRRRR.

I'm not sure my style reflects how hands on I can be, from decorating to building furniture to DIY, I am happy to roll up the sleeves and get the job done.

I do want to ditch the princess in me, she is a bit too aloof.

"Neat UWP" checking in and waving

This is SO much fun!

JulieJohn, I am honoured that you accept my nomination as Colorful Court Jester!

And Sveta -- those adjectives you used describe your own style perfectly -- there is a nobility to your style and a purity -- I almost want to call you a Lady Knight!

My style elements,

body con to structured fits, casual, texture and pattern (especially on bottoms), RATE, zippers and studs, stompy boots, maximal on the jewerly.
I think I might be UWP's cousin Urban Warrior Bombshell.

Thanks for your sweet comment Ceit.

Can I just say that these threads are absolutely brilliant and a fantastic celebration of Angie's Number One rule: having fun with fashion. We sure are!-)

Angie coined me an UWP on my WIW thread this morning. I've thinking about this throughout the day as I always have a difficult time pinpointing my style. Then my eagerly awaited clutch arrived in the mail this afternoon, and I realized Angie was probably correct! Valentino Rockstud clutch. However, my daughter thinks it should belong to her. For the record she is way more of a princess than I have ever been.

Overall what resonates most to me about my style is simplicity. I definitely enjoy elements with an edge but usually in moderation. I also like glam, and feminine looks. I feel equally at home in a body con dress with tall stilettos as I do in a super casual outfit. I also feel a tiny bit rocker chic, especially when I play my guitar (which I love because it is very me, glossy white and gold!)

This has been such an interesting thread. Have thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's assessment of their style. I think it is so useful to have a term to describe our individual styles.

NancyLee, I have to mention that elements of your style really resonate with my own. Loved several of the looks you shared!

I've been using Urban Warrior without the princess as a description. I've also used urban bohemian (not hippie), girlie tomboy, rocker and tuff in various combinations.

@Tina.B - Anybody that owns and plays a guitar--and it is a beauty-- gets to add rocker to their description! I'm still working on placing my fingers without looking!

LOVE this (sorry for shouting).
I'm off to the gym & will read in detail later.
Where do you lovely people see me on this continuum?
JulieJohn - the fool or jester is a wonderful archetype - a truth teller in fact:)

Oh this thread is so fun and interesting to read! I have been craving a descriptor for my style. I don't know where I fit....I know what I like and, even more, I know what is NOT me.

I like:

Simple designs
Strong colors
Minimal more than ALGO
Prefer solids over prints
In prints, prefer graphic over floral
V-necks
Belts
Boots
Shoes- I've always preferred heels to flats but I'm wearing more solid, chunky heels
Statement bags
Silver
Watches and rings

I don't like:

Ruffles
Bows
Small floral prints
Pastels
Fussy designs
Brown
Khakis
Overly preppy
Bombshell
Most pattern mixing
"Country club matron"
Corporate suits

I love jeans and prefer pants over skirs, though I do like some dresses. I prefer clothes that are fuss free and comfortable. I might wear a layering tee with a jacket or cardigan but never a tee, a sweater and a blazer- that's too much going on for me.

I like some androgynous looks but I would never cut my hair really short. In choosing a flat shoe, I would pick an oxford over a ballet style. In my younger years I was rather rebellious and I've always preferred a rocker chick vibe. I wear minimal make up but won't leave the house without mascara! I've recently started moving away from wearing colored nail polish.

I would say that I want to have a bit of edge but nothing dramatic and I don't like to look costumey.

Help! Who am I??

Yay, I finally know what I am: a Gamine Doll. To me, the word "gamine" contains some androgyny in itself. And "doll" is frill and feminine, round, child-like a little bit (even now in my forties). Thanks Mandi, Suz and Angie for your input!

What a cool thread! I am SO adding this to my favorites list, so that I can mine for inspiration during next year's Secret Santa!

Una has UWP covered, so I'll add SGT (Steampunk Girlie Tomboy), my summertime alter-ego that is much softer and more optimistic than my UWP persona in winter.

An SGT is a tomboy first and foremost - the look is boyish - not manly. No menswear-inspired oxfords or neckties or fedoras here! Although an SGT may wear military or utility inspired clothing, it is worn in a slouchy, relaxed, and possibly impish way (as opposed to the strict and buttoned-up air of an Urban Prince). Favorite tomboy pieces include graphic tees (animation, sports, or concert preferred), overly-large belts (knotted at the end, as if handed down from an older sibling), and hooded jackets.

The girlie elements are subtle yet very important! There is nothing androgynous about an SGT. Despite marrying masculine and feminine details, the feminine shape is not obscured. Favorite pieces include short shorts, tank tops, mini dresses, lovely handbags, and bright colors.

Finally, the steampunk element cannot be underestimated. A counterpoint to the rest, the steampunk influences give the boyish girl an old soul. It adds something fantastical and whimsical as well as something dark. Distressed, rusted hardware, leather, and denim convey that "used future" feel. Boots are a must, even in summer, bonus points for spats. When in doubt, evoke robots or imaginary technology or futuristic dystopia.

(Apropos of absolutely nothing, I'm taking the opportunity to post a pic I took last month in Soho in NYC. I'd totally forgotten about it. This is for rae!)

I usually shy away from labels, but I would be curious to pinpoint my style as a whole. I've been given many titles (Queen Strawberry Blonde, Queen Preppy, Queen Leopard Print and Princess Plaid), but that's not a Style moniker-well not ONE. I know I have preppy days (more than most), girly days, boyish days and all out sparkle days. I'm not sure I blend my worlds much. I always love Boho (think Sundance catalog) but rarely pull them off. I wear a lot of black lately, but I don't really consider myself Urban or Warrior. I also don't have (and could never pull off) a pixie cut so Prince is out.

Yes to these: No Warrior. Lots of Refinement. Equal Parts Boyish and Ladylike. A little Romance and Preppy.
No to these: No nonsense and lots of Inner Punk. Minimal. Polished.
How about Classic Preppy Retro Trendy Ladyboy? Hmmmm..

This was a fun thread

I have NO idea how to characterize my style. I think I am urban but colorful. I don't have any warrior instincts. I have a pretty feminine style, even though I'm not super ruffly, and I like more masculine textural elements like tweed.

Any suggestions?

I don't post enough for anyone to know me ( and I am unsure of my style too) but having lurked for 2 years, I find all your descriptors accurate and fun.

I know I am classic something, with short hair and fun jewelry

Rachylou, you are too kind. *blushing* And your Malibu Preppy label is hilarious. I kind of see what you mean about the "easy" aspect of my style and how that could read California...although I can count on one hand the times I've even been to California, so I don't know it works for me! You've given me something to think about, though.....hmm.

It seems my style this year has become more streamlined and minimal. I've been playing around with a rubric--Minimal Sleek Arty Neutral--but I don't know what moniker that adds up to. I want to be something more exciting, like an UWP, but I guess I am what I am.

Goodness! I am with Deborah - must stop sleeping at night. Angie dubbed me (Thrown together) Elegant Tomboy and I love that so I will add that to the list. Wow, must find the spin-off threads immediately.

Squee at Mochi! Thanks for the bots - soo cute!

In the UWP thread I defined my style as Bi-Coastal Urban -- and think I'm sticking with it.

"Bi-coastal Urban with one foot in 80s NYC and the other in 70s California."

But maybe there's a more fun way to put it. I've been doing P&Ls for our business all day so I'm afraid I'm not in the most creative mindset!

Wow, again with Deb and Shevia! What a thread to wake up too. I have never worked out a style descripter either, but would love you guys to give it a shot!

Wow - I was trying to read the other UWP thread over the past couple days and POOF! this thread had exploded into such great fun AND useful insights I love the different titles floating around here!!

I SO need your help with a title, please!! (or are these labels? but I'll happily take one of either!)

I can't even tell if I'm a Prince, Princess, Queen, or Tomboy!! I like to think I'm Urban and this year I'm upping my game chic or sophisticated (very timely at my age ;-), and is there a difference?

I just recently realized that Zapotee is one of my style muses!! But I'm not so sure I'm the Sleek Urban Warrior Princess she is -- more that I wannabe Zap I also love Una and Rae's style, often buying same things (or looking into buying them), but I know I'm not, nor ever will be, the UWP they are :-\

Thanks, Cathy. I guess I get a lot of practice along with loving what I do.

Gaylene, I am so with you that straight hair is often edgier than curly hair. I have sung the praises of sophistication for a looooooong time so you know I am with you.

Rachy, Quirky Warrior Waifs can be Duchesses at heart.

Nancylee, I barely see the boho and arty in your style these days. I vote Modern Princess.

Debs, you are a mixture of Elegant Eclectic and Modern Classic. How about a Eclectic Modern Classic. Or Queen Modern Chic.

Joy, you have the elegant part down too

Jules, Urban Pretty it is! Or Urban Romantic. Or Urban Softie or Romantic Rocker.

Krish, you are Gamine Doll!

Kelly is a Neat UWP. I can tell from your style that you are a very neat and tidy person, btw.

Tina! KILLER clutch! Perhaps you are a Rocker Princess?

Caro, you are also an Elegant Eclectic

Susie, perhaps you can start a separate thread - and post pictures- and we can help you that way. I don't have a handle on your style yet to come up with a descriptor from words.

Rae, you're a Steampunk Girlie Tomboy! I named you so myself so that was extra fun.

Jeanne, how about Playful Preppy Doll. Or Preppy Ladyboy. Or Flirty Prepster.

Crazyone, I feel I hace lost touch with your style. Perhaps you can repost some pics.

Shevia, you rule the Kingdom of Thrown Together Elegant Tomboy. Stick with it.

Denise, how about Pacific Urban.

Anne, you're Country Pretty

Sara, Zaps a Sleek Urban Princess - not a Warrior. Perhaps that's you too!

Thanks Angie! Sleek Urban Princess sounds closer than anything else I've heard so far. I'm definitely not a Warrior as I don't identify with RATE at all.

Thanks, Angie. I gladly accept my title as Modern Princess. Wow, I've gone from boho to modern in less than two years!

Rae - waaah! That is the sound of me laughing at your SGT description so hard tears ran out of my eyes. "When in doubt, evoke robots" is a mantra to which I shall always aspire. Your writing is excellent - hilarious yet still thought-provoking.

Caro, I'll take a stab at what you are. Definitely you love menswear inspiration. You also love flowy fabrics and artistic touches. You like to make a statement. You dig neutrals. My summation? Dapper Diva. I offer it to you to be tweaked as you see fit.

I need to think about my summer style too -- I can't be stomping around in wool and boots in 30C. Although in the summer I am often just wearing field trousers, steel toes and a linen long sleeved shirt and a big hat when I am out in the field.

I just want to mention that I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread! So much fun and so many here are incredibly creative.

Ceit - my style is different in the summer too. It has more California to it - loose tanks, baggy shorts, flat sandals, wrap bracelets and small necklaces.
