Something written by a fellow member the other day prompted my new plan for spring and summer dressing: I've decided to give myself "permission" to spend a certain amount of money (limited) on , say, 4 or 5 or 6 inexpensive coloured/printed/patterned tops and a few fun inexpensive pieces of jewellery . I have very little colour and print/pattern in my wardrobe, by choice, but I have managed to edit all of the life and interest right out of my closet in the process. By strictly adhering to certain "sophisticated and fashion forward " style goals , and being mindful of only buying quality and certain types of fabrics.....I stopped buying the pieces that can jazz things up a bit. So - I picked up this top and necklace yesterday at H&M - and give it a go today. My first styling, wearing a black Smythe blazer and black cut-out booties, was ok, but felt blah rather than interesting. The jeans are sort of a dirty wash, which I must pay attention to in future, as it can skew pretty yuck, pretty quickly. (with black, for example). Anyways, I don't mind this ivory mix look, and for $20 for the top, and $17 for the necklace, I don't feel compelled to treat them as if they were valuable and important pieces of my wardrobe. If I get a few wears in a few different ways - I'm ok with that. I'm also liking green this summer - in lots of different tones .
I'm also interested in the Golden Rule of Thirds (in terms of proportion in dressing) and being more mindful of that. Here, the top is longer than my middle point, and the shorter jacket adds a tiny bit of quasi waist definition .
Thoughts, comments, etc - always welcome!
