Outerwear day 3 - olive leather coat

The end of this working week was
very busy, so no time for proper walks. But I was out in the office for a short meeting (informal) and an errand afterwards. Otherwise WFH. The weather was grey and gloomy most of the time, but not so cold and not raining.
I am wearing a dark olive leather coat (from AIM) over a column of black. The coat is about 4 years old. Not worn much because it requires a quite warm and dry autumn or spring day. Not so many of those here. But I am happy to have it in my wardrobe as I love leather jackets and coats and as this one has longevity. I can wait patiently for the right conditions to wear it.
A scarf which has some olive greens and yellows in the pattern and a touch of red. Since the olive combination is rather somber and the weather so “grey”, I felt like red lipstick. It is a long lasting formula - ok with a mask, which I wear indoors, although not mandated here.
Below, pictures of the outfit and a weather picture.
The last picture is the same coat worn a week ago for a short drive to pick up a package. I think this outfit is a bit weird - to dark or dull colours and maybe the sunglasses are “wrong”? Like a bad attempt to do Matrix or something LOL?

What do you think of my outfit? Any thoughts, suggestions and ideas are very appreciated, as always!

Wow to that coat! I don't see bad attempt at Matrix for the last outfit, but maybe if the scarf was tied differently instead of hanging long it could work well.

Nothing at all wrong here! On the contrary, everything is dead right! I rather like the Matrix reference (which all long leather coat looks are bound to do). The early aughts are very trendy right now! And you do share similarities with the very beautiful Carrie-Ann Moss.

I’m a sucker for a long leather coat so you’ll get no criticism from me! If it feels a bit too dark or somber for you, how about a metallic shoe and/or bag to punch it up?

Gosh, i love this coat. And i love that its olive and not black.

Interesting that you find outfit #5 to be matrix like, but don’t feel (or at least didn’t express that feeling) about # 3, which is essentially the same colors. I think the difference is that #3 because pants are full length, has different proportions from #5 with cropped pants, would you try #5 with out the stockings/socks to show a little skin?

Suntiger, thank you. You are right, I should try this scarf tied a little shorter. It is a very big silk scarf - quite thin, so it is possible to wear it “smaller”.

Star, thank you. I didn’t know it. I try to avoid wearing my leather jackets in the rain …. Will they not get water stained somehow?

Kkards, thank you. Yes, it must be the proportions as well - thank you for the suggestions, I will try sheer knee height socks instead. I think the bit of red in the other scarf makes a difference too.

Great coat! I agree with Janet's and kkards suggestions for brightening the look up a bit, but there is also nothing wrong with the way it is!

Hmm, I love this and I think the beautiful scarves add just the right brightness and personality--I love the bird and the butterflies! Your sunglasses look chic to me too. I haven't seen a color that you can't wear--the olive looks fab on you!

Love, love that coat! This is precisely the shade of olive I like, pretty cool without the yellow/warm undertones. Both outfits are great, I don’t see any issues with the second one. You are really nailing this challenge.

Since it's not a very warm coat, Katerina - have you tried layering another coat over the top? Like a short or long puffer, or cocoon coat?

Angie, thank you! And thank you for the ideas! The coat is not warm at all, in fact it only has lined sleeves. It has not occurred to me that I might layer other jackets over it. You mention a short puffer - how interesting! How do I combine the lengths?

Try to create a low contrast between all the layers, and just pop the shorter puffer over the top!

Your olive leather coat is out of this world. I am asking myself why don’t I have an olive leather coat? I like both outfits. Re warming it up, how about a thin puffer vest under the coat?

The coat is fantastic on you! I don't find any of these too dark and actually especially like the flared cropped pants in the last one, but you could always switch the scarf to something brighter for a change.

JAileen, thank you for the good idea. I currently do not have a puffer vest, but it would certainly be a useful addition for layering.

Shevia, yes, you’re right about the scarf. I have a few brighter candidates for this coat.

Have a look at Sheila of Ephemera's blog. She lives on Victoria Island in Canada and it rains endlessly there sometimes and she calls it Leather Weather and pulls out her leather coats and she walks to work in them with just a hat and no umbrella. She assures it is a misconception rain damages real leather.

You do have a lot of great out wear—seeing them all is so cool.
This is one cool coat. I like the idea of a smaller way to wear the scarf in the last—it’s somehow a lot of look and you get sort of lost. I like kellygirl’s suggestion of metallic footwear (want to borrow my boots?). What about colored pants? Crazy, huh? But you wear black pants with colored outerwear, so you could do a similar color combo, inverted.

Stagiaire Fash, thank you! To wear colorful pants is a great idea, not crazy at all. I love dark olive with red, orange or purple and I have pants in these colors. It will be my next outfit with this coat, thanks for the suggestions.
