OMG, I have an outing!!!

I have a dentist appointment this morning. Not only am I going out, but we had a thunderstorm at 4 AM (!) and the rain washed the smoke out of the air. It is a glorious morning!!

Lol! DH said the new protocol is to rinse with peroxide upon arrival and they do not brush/polish teeth anymore. Have a great appointment! You look fab. Happy someone is getting some rain! We sure could use it.

Okay, I’m back. Just as Kelly said, I had a mouth rinse with diluted hydrogen peroxide, but the hygenist did polish my teeth.

Kelly, I’m not sure how much it rained, but the thunder scared Mr Skunky and he had to get up on our bed and cuddle. At 4AM.

Angie, thank you. I was glad to have my teeth cleaned, and they were happy to be working again.

Carla, thank you. I’ve been using the bag nonstop since I got it.

Deb, thank you. Have you seen this smoke map? I’ve kind of gotten obsessed with it. Whatever you do, don’t go to Quincy. They’re over 400.

Jane, thank you. We’ve had smoke for over a week, varying from bad to unhealthy. We haven’t been doing much outside, so it’s a real treat today.

Cardiff girl, thank you. I was talking to my mother and mentioned that as bad as the pandemic was, at least we could go outside for a bike ride or play with the dogs. Each time we get used to the new awful, it gets worse. I fully expect locusts next.

Nemosmom, thank you. The fires are terrible. A knitting friend had to evacuate. Her home, dogs and sheep were fine. She did lose a couple of sheds, and she feels very lucky.

Brooklyn, thank you. I remember the devastating fires in Australia last year. It was heartbreaking on the news.

I finally went to the dentist about 2 weeks ago for a checkup and cleaning.
It sounds like you had a better and safer experience than I had. They specifically said that no one was to be in the waiting room and someone driving you could not wait in the office. The waiting room was full of people without masks waiting for people. The lady who cleaned my teeth wore one of those face guard hats. It was open at the bottom. I had to take off my mask for her to clean my teeth, so she was breathing and coughing on me as the open face shield opening was right above me. Then she kept taking the whole thing off. I did not feel at all safe. Plus one had to grab and pull a door handle to get in the building and climb steep steps to the second floor. Anyone my age would be touching the railing and no hand sanitizer was offered. I wish I had walked out.
You look stunning in that outfit. So pretty with your hair. I need to call two doctor’s tomorrow to set up appointments for eyes and a diabetes check. If not, I can:t get meds refilled. The person you talk to on the phone has no clue what the office is really like. If there is a policy, it may not be enforced.
I have a cough now that I think/ hope is only due to all the smoke in the air and not a virus symptom. I understand the horror of having to stay in with the smoke. We have not seen the sun for at least a week. Please send the rain this way to clear the air. I laughed at your locust comment as they are eating our roses and clematis. A big outbreak of locusts has been predicted but seems worst in Asia this year. Y parents, who went thourgh a lot, talked only about the horrors of the dust bowl and the clouds of locusts. We have cases of West Nile Virus and positive tests on mosquitos on a trail near-by. Yuk! What’s next?

Joy, thank you. I’m sorry you had such a miserable experience. My experience started with someone coming out to my car, asking me several questions and taking my temperature. Then I went inside and waited a little awhile, completely alone. The hygienist wore a mask and one of those face shields. There was hand sanitizer everywhere. I felt okay.

I think here they have inspectors going to all the businesses to make sure they comply with all the new rules and regulations.

Janet - wow you look fab! I haven’t been on the forum in ages, so seeing you is such a treat!

The rain was soooo welcome, but Sunday night t-storms were crazy cloud to ground strikes and at least onesmall fire started a few miles away. I think they were able to suppress quickly.

I haven’t been able to hike for over a week. The smoke is ruling our lives up here too. With no AC, we rely on our cool nights to stay comfy, but now we can’t leave the widows open. We go outside and judge how bad it seems , the throw everything open and run a fan for as long as we can then shut everything down. My standards for what is breathable have definitely lowered!

Karen, thank you. I know, it just keeps getting worse and worse. We’ve had our AC on for a week straight. Usually we turn it off at night and open up the windows, but the smoke has prevented that.

Love the title, lol. You look great, just as crisp and clean as the air after a cleansing rain.

I just saw the smoke maps for the first time yesterday. That really drove home the magnitude of the fires for me. Also, a friend of mine had a pretty traumatic childhood with a pretty disfunctional (he says) family in the Bay Area, so i was dismayed to see how much they are being affected. He tends to worry himself sick about them, then try to be a strong guy who doesn’t feel pain. Makes it hard to offer him any comfort, sigh.

Fashintern, thank you. The smoke is back this morning. Here’s a screen shot from the fire map. You can also see where the smoke has been blown by the wind. I think there were 250-300 fires started by lightning.

Suz, my visit was fine. I had a cleaning, and didn’t need anything else, and they seemed to be doing a good job WRT preventing the spread of Covid.

I’ve lived in this area for over 30 years, and for the first five years I only remember one fire. The last five years have gotten steadily worse. This is the new normal, I’m afraid.

Looking good! This is one of my favorite outfits of yours.

I had a similar routine at the dentist--rinse with hydrogen peroxide, and no flossing. There technically wasn't supposed to be any polishing either, but I had some difficult stains to get off completely, and so the hygienist said she was going to go "old school" and put the polish on some gauze and rub it over the teeth. She said that is how they did it in the old days when she was first learning how to be a hygienist. There of course isn't any aerosolization that way, so it is safer. It worked quite well!
