Nordstrom trip with girlfriends and some shopping discoveries

My friend won a $1000 Nordstrom gift certificate at a fundraiser last night! Three of us went off to try to spend it today. Here is what I learned:

1. No one I know looks good in a DVF wrap dress. If you are the exception, please post.

2. A mid-shopping cocktail break is a must.

3. I don't really need anything.

4. I am not a shoe person, but between my two other friends they bought 6 pairs and had a blast doing it.

5. Has anyone seen these Steve Madden booties? My friend loved them and bought them saying they were crazy comfy. Mo?

Okay, now I want those shoes. I have been debating what kind of boot/shoe to get that would cover a number of different dressing styles. This one looks really good.
I've never tried a DVF wrap dress (I'm in Canada) but I was hoping to try one when we go to the US next month. I will certainly post if I meet with any success.
Sounds like a great way to wile away some hours!

Thanks for confirming #1--I once mistakenly bought one on eBay thinking that the fit would be flattering, but the fit was tragic.

Wow, a thousand dollars at Nordstrom, what fun.

I've never tried an actual DVF wrap dress so I don't know the exact cut of it and how full the skirt is, but I own a wrap dress from BR that I think looks pretty decent on me. I might have some previous outfit pics with it... I'll have to look.

Sounds like you had a good time. And oh yeah ... Lucky friend!!

I have seen knock offs in F21 that look ditto like these boots. Was tempted to buy, but (like you) I really didn't need any more shoes. I am only adding dressy shoes and clothes to my wardrobe and the very occasional casual piece that I really love or don't have. These boots didn't qualify But its a fun piece!

1. Maybe a pre-op trannie… no gaping at the bust that way.

4. My mother does needlepoint and I want her to make me a pillow that says: "Buy the shoes." I am a shoe person, I get it.

5. Is a good reason to become a shoe person.

I love how you summed up what you learned, Una! Your friend is really lucky and it sounds like you had a blast

1. Very comforting as "everybody" says a wrap dress is every womens best friend.

2. Agree - fueling up is important to keep up the fun. Including double or triple espresso

3. Must be a sign of that your wardrobe is in good shape

4. I am a shoe person, but need to add shoes with fun colour..

5. Lovely!! The black ones! Or nude! Or blue!

I haven't tried a DVF version, but I do know that wrap dresses are not an apple's friend.

A mojito is very refreshing!

I too don't really need anything, but it's so easy to think of things to try.

Unfortunately I am a shoe person, I just don't have the funds to support my desires.

I've tried cheaper versions of those booties (Target, F21). It doesn't work with my narrow heels and low volume feet. Wah!

Sounds like you had a great time.
I love those booties and was going to buy them a while ago when the price dropped slightly but I read a review saying that the back/ side closure opened up by itself when the person was walking. I decided I did not need something else to worry about.
Most reviews are positive but unfortunately I give more weight to the negatives if they have a good chance of happening to me, too.

1 See pic below. Maybe this just proves I am built unusually. So short waist, busty and big hips actually make DVF wrap dresses work?

2 Cocktails sound good but I might not get much accomplished after...or make good purchasing judgments!

Ohhh, sounds like so much fun! The Steve Madden booties are cute (love them in the unusual blue color). I've found their shoes to be very poor quality and comfort, though (unless it's a flat, and even then the quality and comfort is rather hit or miss, imho. So I hope the booties work out for your friend).

...and I am apparently in the vast minority when I say I own a couple of DVF (and three dots) wrap dresses and all work very well for me and are flattering. I used to wear them all the time when I lived in Vegas because of the heat but don't wear them as much now in SoCal because I'm almost always too cold to go bare-legged.

Wrap dresses only work for me if I am smoothed by spanx otherwise
I just look lumpy. Even then, they are not my favourite style.

Big Fun!

I look decent in a DVF wrap but i can't for the life of me keep it closed. I think I don't really have enough boobs to hold it up (and they are wide set so what I get is a big expanse of visible sternum in the gape, which I don't like). I'm shaped like Janet but with smaller boobs. Also, you have to tie them pretty tight around the waist to get them to stay, which makes me (literally) twitchy. But I once tried a dvf FAUX wrap which was incredible.

The SM shoes look cool but I'm also wary of the low quality of their shoes.

Just saw this . . . I have some similar shoes on order right now, actually! If they don't work, I will check these out. They are right in my budget.
I think my wrap dress looks pretty decent on me, but I do get self conscious about my middle. I'm also a high waisted hourglass, so maybe that's part of the trick?

Love the insight. I think I need a mid shopping coffee to keep going and then a post shopping cocktail to bask in the glory.

This lumpy apple with a bust that is small in comparison to her belly avoids wrap dresses like the plague.

I don't need anything, either, but... thanks for the info on the SM Nonstp. I keep going back to them online, but am not sure the heel makes them right for my commute on foot lifestyle. I think I'm going to push the button today. Blue or nude? So hard to choose

Sounds like so much fun. Sometimes buying vicariously is the ticket.

I do have a friend who looks great in the wrap. She is shorter waisted with an hourglass figure. Enough bust to fill out the dress but not be a lot of cleavage. The print seems to minimize the rest.

When I ordered one my family liked it but I did not. I didn't feel I filled out the top enough and from the back it accentuated my long torso. Also felt like it would need constant adjustment. I think my family just liked the print which was fab. Back it went.

My figure type is very similar to Janet's, and I actually do think I look pretty darn good in a DVF wrap.

I did just buy those booties! great deal via ideeli, was looking for light open toe bootie, I got the tan. Leather is super soft, but I haven't styled or inside walk tested them much though I've had a couple weeks. Still a bit cool and wet in michigan (will be for weeks!). Many outfits I can wear them with.

I admit I was very confused by your "not a shoe person" comment so thanks for clarifying the shoe vs boot situation, ha.

Re the DVF wrap dresses --
KatieKat just had a thread about thinking wrap dresses didn't work for her. However, armed with Goldenpig's tips Ms Kat showed how the *right* print(s) + tying a bit higher on the body looked great. Granted they weren't DVF, but...even better for the wallet!

And Janet, Mo, and Alicat and others I know I'm forgetting (sorry!) DO all look great in their DVFs.

I'm a Rectangle who bought my first DVF after years of looking for the right (sale) price + print and being highly discouraged by the results: package tied with twine. If the one I thought finally worked looks not-great I blame YLFers since I did post it for a K/R!

What a fun time!! Wow. $1000....I could deal with that pretty quickly, whether I "needed" anything or not....

1. Vix, Janet, Mo, and a few others here do look good in their DVF wrap dresses. I, on the other hand, can't fill one out. So it looks horrid. What Diana said about "wide expanse of sternum."

2. Agreed...although tea would probably be smarter in my own case.

3. What's need got to do with it?

4. Six pairs of shoes....I can easily see that.

5. I had my eye on those booties, too. But the heel looks pretty darned high.
