New, Enhanced YLF - feedback thread

Today we've launched a few new features on YLF, which are accessible through the "Profile" tab at the top of the page, but also show up all over the site.

If you are a member of the forum, you already have access to the new features. You can:
- create a rich profile
- add a profile picture that will appear alongside your posts and comments
- send private messages to other members
- search for other members in the member directory

Feel free to reply on this thread if you experience any problems or if you have feedback.

Thanks for posting this, Greg! The only major thing I've encountered is when I logout, sometimes I'm still listed as being an 'online' member. I've logged back in and out, closed and quit my browser... but I come back to the forum and I'm still shown as being online. Any thoughts on what else I could try?

Also, is there a way to list my birthday without putting my birthyear on my profile? I tried not listing the year, but it defaulted to 2009. Definitely not urgent or necessary; I''ll leave it blank, but it was a thought.

Greg and Angie, it looks fantastic! I like the profile and private messaging options, and especially like the profile pictures next to members' comments. I enjoy being able to identify a familiar face or image with a name. Thanks for all of your hard work making this site so functional and interactive.

I was so excited to find YLF up and running and better than ever this morning!

The only thing is..and I apologize in advance if I'm being totally dense here...but did the edit option disappear somewhere in cyberspace? I can't find it and I am a serial editor, so this is a source of great panic for me!

Greg and Angie I think the new site is amazing. You must have put in alot of behind the scenes effort. What a labour of love!!!

Is it just me, or is the RSS not working though?? I haven't seen any new posts go through since the site has come back up (and obviously there are a lot!) The url is the same isn't it, so I don't know if google reader is just being slow???

One little glitch I've noticed is this:

On this thread (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ine-please) I am currently the last to respond, but on the recent conversations page it shows the previous poster as the last respondent.

Also, I was wondering (maybe I haven't figured it out yet) but is there a way to send a private message to multiple users?

Other than that, it looks great! Awesome upgrades.

Marianna, that is interesting with the Gap thread. Currently I see:

LE, you are logged out, but it takes a while for your name to disappear from the 'online users' list. Is this where you are seeing that issue?

Thanks Ana, I missed LE's question. Right now the online list not directly linked to your logged in/out status. Your name displays there if you have been active in the last 5 minutes. It does sometimes make a mistake though.

Regarding, the birth date year, this is something we wanted to do but just ran out of time for this update. I agree we need more flexibility.

First off, thanks SO much for all your hard work Greg! It was already a great site and now it is even better.

This is not an issue per se, but when I first loaded the site after the maintenance this morning I noticed an "h" print on the top left corner. I don't see it anymore so I guess you might have fixed it. Sorry, I don't mean to nitpick, but I can't help the programmer in me

I just checked the thread on another computer (not logged into YLF) and it appears like you see it. Seems like my second reply is only visible for me and not for others to view?

Niva, you are just way too observant. I was double checking that some header code (stats tracking) was loading for all the different parts of the live site.

Thanks Marianna. I suspect that your second post was held up by the sometimes over zealous spam detector. I'll check that out.

Maya, the time limit for editing is 60 minutes.

Marianna, mystery solved. It was indeed the spam filter that quarantined your post, probably because it had a few links. Sometimes we get false positives like this, but now that I have corrected the error it will trust you more in future.

Hi Greg,

I'm loving the updates to the site, you must have had a few sleepless nights in the run up to this. However, I'm having a little difficulty uplifting a jpeg image from my desk top to use as a profile picture. I'm browsing to locate the file then selecting upload image but nothing is happening. Is there a limit on the file size?

Edit: As you can probably see I managed to sort the problem. Definitely a PICNIC problem (Problem In Chair Not In Computer)

It's been a while since I've had time to actively participate in the forum, but I have been keeping up with the YLF blog. It's great to see all the updates to the site.

Thanks so much Angie and Greg for your hard work. I love the new features! I haven't run into any issues with updating my profile or uploading pictures. Thanks again!! This is really fantastic and so exciting!!

Oooh I have just noticed that the "new conversations" RSS has updated but not the "new posts" thread. Crossing my fingers the other will happen soon too
