I have been thinking of trying the ankle boot trend, so on a whim I bought these at Target today. But now I am having second thoughts. I am not sure if they are sleek enough, and how to wear them.

So how would YOU style them? I need some outfit ideas so I can decide if I should keep them and make them work.

I adore most of those and would wear them in an instant.Once this shopping ban is over next week I think I will order a few of those on sale at Nordstroms to try them out :-) I 'll heed your advice on the sizing too and probably pop for the mediums.

Kyle, it is indeed food for thought. Some of it is probably cultural I am sure. I am originally from the Caribbean where "meaty" women are the cultural standard of beauty.This usually means not too thin, with a chest, hips and butt. Interesting how cultural norms can stay with you even after you move away, and even when your new culture is quite different!

I like the skinnies as is. The bagginess is part and parcel of your body type – slim, straight legs so no curve to fill them out. But you need a larger size to accommodate the waistline. That happens with most apple shaped lasses. Looks terrific!

Are they very long and do they need hemming?

For the scarf to stay in place, may I suggest a small pin. I have a tiny tarnished silver pin in the shape of a crab (my zodiac sign), the size of my thumb nail. It’s very discreet and holds this type of scarf tying in place perfectly. A safety pin pinned at the back will also do :0)

As a first time boot shopper, may I suggest that you take yourself off to a department store in a frock and try on loads of boots. Feel your way around them and take pictures if you can.

I would give the audrey hepburn pants a whirl! Or order both (or all three), see which you like the best. Earlier I think it was Maya who tried an Inc ponte pant in the store, and it was different material - not as nice. So you never know. Hard to say from the photo and description.

I do sometimes wear a belt with mine, purely to keep the pants from slipping down too low. Especially when worn tucked into boots, as it seems doing that has a way of anchoring at the bottom, which makes the waist want to creep down if it's not also anchored. I don't even notice I'm wearing a belt though - I keep it just loose enough. There's just something about the cut of these which I find IDEAL for my figure - no muffin top, hits just right on the waist, etc.

My very first thought was denim jacket. I would pick up on the shade of purple for my top, which I think would be fab on you, add black tights and booties for a long line, and a long strand of pearls. I've belted a jean jacket in the past, too, to avoid a boxy look.

This is an interesting question. I am bony up top, too, but I kind of like it and have never attempted or thought about covering it up. I would imagine most fashion models have the same "problem" and yet lots of women are aiming to look just like them. Food for thought.

I found wool/angora blend socks at Target that are really nice for cold feet- and they are machine washable and dryable. They come in crew and knee sock versions, patterns and solids and they are only $5. I'm going to stock up on them for winter, and get some extras for Christmas stockings.

Yay - Shiny - I was hoping you would check in. It was your recommendation of the INC ponte pants that steered me to the Macy's site to check them out (I searched the YLF boards for ponte pants posts...hehe, say that 5 times fast).

I actually think I actually prefer the dressier style - it seems more "Audrey Hepburn" cigarette pants to me.

I think you could choose a classic dress and bring it up to date with your accessories, hair and make up, but you need to find the dress first.

I agree with Alecia about taking a shoe with same height of heel you would wear on the day.

I also recommend taking a little extra time in the morning over your hair and make up to make you feel extra special!

I don't see any of the necklines in SweetPea at Nordies right now that I mentioned, but the styles constantly change. Unfortunately most are plus sizes and scoop necks right now. Btw, the nylon sleeves can be cut to the length you want without hemming because the nylon doesn't fray. Here are a couple:

I didn't find the shawl collar which is a favorite, but if you see one, try it. They run small and differently in different styles. I usually wear small, but have mediums and larges, especially in the tee shirt style. They are very stretchy.

I've had the "pleasure" of sorting through over 200 applications for one job. It was tedious. I found that a lot of people didn't take the time to personalize their letter to the particular job. Those didn't get a second look. I did appreciate good writing (which you have in spades) and some kind of indication that they had thought about the particular job and their fit.

Shiny's suggestion is very clever. Making a personal connection is always your best bet.

You've gotten good advice. I loved the idea of a sort of slip-like dress, but knew the minute I started trying on dresses that they weren't for me. So I just tried on all sorts of stuff and I knew when I tried the dress on that was to be mine. (And thankfully, it was relatively reasonably priced.)

I think the idea with the shoes it to have a similar heel height. I didn't find the shoes I wanted to wear until much later. I had certain criteria for my shoes. I needed a wedge because the wedding was outside and I didn't want to be in heels on the grass. I also didn't want too high a heel so I could be comfortable throughout the evening. I wasn't too keen on the idea of a separate pair of shoes so I looked for something I thought I could wear throughout.

I'm sorry PF, I'm very late to this thread. I also have a bony chest, in certain lights I can count the ribs, but I also have an average bust.

I still wear a scoop neck but I do wear a statement necklace to fill in the space, I also try to wear a scoop which is not too low. If I don't follow these measures my breasts look like two bumps on an ironing board.

Thanks! If I stick with this look, I may try a pair of those denim leggings that Angie mentioned in a post. I'm petite and my legs are slender but I have a tummy, so it's hard to find skinny jeans that don't end up bagging a bit on my legs, even when I get them shortened.

I like the idea of a skinny belt and a boyfriend cardigan. It's a classic silhouette so I think the cardigan/belt will make it more modern.
