Nas items: want to help me narrow it down?

Last year's approach to the NAS involved making a lot of demands on a lot of people, namely you fabulous forum ladies. This year I decided to try a different approach. The fact that I had a few wardrobe gaps identified certainly helped me keep things targeted, but I decided to take the plunge and hire Angie from abroad. Needless to say she was as afabulous as ever and helped me identify pieces that would work. I now have a list of things that I want and would snap up at once in a perfect world. That said, I should probably whittle it down a little.

So here is my list. What are the items that would earn me instant YLF banishment if I leave behind? And which ones would you cut?

ARGH!! I just spent time trying to fix the links and it still doesn't work! Weird, because I'm taking them from Angies hot list post. I guess you can look at them there until I fix things.

Are they selling out and that's why the links are removed? Yikes, I hope not!

But from the items I already know without needing a link, I would say buy these for sure:

-- Guess washed leather jacket in purple - so unusual to find a pretty dark purple jacket like this
-- Chanelesque jacket - very much your style
-- Halogen seamed pencil skirt - meant to go with Chanelesque jacket? Seems like lots of people here have purchased it and love it
-- turquoise bag -- (it appears to be a dark turquoise, from the look of the online photo, great for fall). And we know how fab turquoise is for you!

I don't know what the Kenneth Cole red tunic looks like, but that could be great too! The white shirt and grey boyfriend blazer are very solid basics - are they a wardrobe gap for you?

I can tell you the seamed pencil skirt is flattering, versatile and very comfortable. The Chanel-esque jacket can easily go from day to evening.

The turquoise bag also gets my vote, just for the color:) The shape and details are very pretty.

Laura, yes, I don't have a good long-sleeve white shirt, nor a good quality bf blazer. I have a knitted one that's wicked comfortable but is already showing signs of wear after one season.

Oh, Michelle. I am not sure how to help you whittle down the list. I really, really like all of the items you have mentioned. I bought the Chanel-esque jacket and it was a hit with everyone. I saw the Gibson blazer and thought it looked really cool - might have to try it. I also liked the Guess jacket a lot. I probably should try the plus-sized skirt - I ended up falling for the black-white-silver leopard print one, though.
I didn't see the red tunic or the white shirt, but I really love the look online.

I love the bag. Melissa and Frances can attest to the fact that we were marveling at it in the store. It is one of the few bags I am/was really considering.

So, I realize that was not helpful. If you CAN order everything and try them out, then I think that is a nice idea.

Michelle, I could see everything from your links. Thinking of your style, I'd definitely get the Halogen Chanel-esque jacket which I've seen and want, the pencil skirt, and the red tunic (often a hard to find item and in a perfect color for you). Next I'd consider the turquoise bag (It looks like a deep turquoise, almost teal on my monitor), the grey boyfriend blazer, and the white shirt. The purple jacket is gorgeous but quite fitted and the ruffles in the back make me wonder if you can wear it under a coat when it gets colder. Four or five rows of ruffles go across the back from about waist to the hem (high hip) and will definitely draw the eye to that area from the back. If Angie has seen it, however, it's probably a fab detail. It's worth a try if it's not too hard to return if you don't like it.

I don't think we are doing a very good job of helping you WHITTLE, sorry! You and Angie came up with some great items to try.

I find the whittling is a bit easier when the proof and pudding meet, so agree with the "can you order then return" contingent.

If not, ok...let's see.

1) Halogen seamed ponte knit pencil skirt: I was returning a bra during NAS and a friend suckered me into trying this on despite the fact that I already own one almost exactly like it. Verdict: The knit of the Halogen is MUCH sturdier than the (unlined) Ann Taylor one I have, plus it's lined, and knowing you like those classic streamlined shapes I'd say you have to get this one.

I don't know if you have to order in one swoop for various reasons or if you can break up your order while you ponder, but luckily (?) for my budget the skirt was sold out in my size in 2/3 colors. [Yes, it may cycle back in etc and I am wait-listed so I can re-evaluate.] So I would give serious thought to rounding that one up ASAP.

2) The purple blazer: I have two concerns about this one. Joy already mentioned the tiered ruffles across the back; though I love the front, I wonder if the back will be too "frou-frou" for you. Also the color is a VERY muted (vs saturated) purple and I think it could be deadly for your skin.

I was also suckered into trying on a NAS Classiques plum leather jacket that I think would be better for you color-wise, but it has a BIG collar that ate my face and is asymmetrical and looks kind of odd worn open, so I'm not suggesting that.

When I clicked the link for the Guess jacket, though, the sidebar showed a gorgeous Dove Grey leather jacket. Back is not shown, but front is a standard blazer design with a deep V above the 2 button closure and a smaller, inverted V below. [Shown both barely open and open on model and looks good.]

Oh dear, each and every item is just fantastic Michelle, and very you to boot. Is there any way you could get everything?

- Purple leather jacket. I have to disagree with Vix here. It is a darker shade of purple, but I'm convinced this will look gorgeous on you (we both wear some of the same colours equally well, and I've had on this colour before;-). And as Laura pointed out: fab purple leather jackets are hard to come by...

- Chanel-esque jacket: stunning and I think this will be a very versatile piece in your wardrobe. (with dresses, skirts, jeans...)

- Grey boyfriend blazer. Please get immediately. This is such a fabulous shade of grey, and the cut looks fantastic.

- Red tunic: I'm going to be furious if you don't buy this, Michelle!-) This kind of cool blue-ish red is extremely hard to come by (I've been hoping to find something, skirt, dress, sweater, top... in this exact colour for years). So beautiful!

- White shirt: an amazing basic, the ruffles make it more unique and special, the fabric looks super and I love the sleeve length.

- Pencil skirt: perfect basic again, and for this price...

- Bag: I love all the zippers and the colour is a beautiful darker turquoise (more of a teal on my screen). Will go with almost anything in your wardrobe. I think I would have preferred the metal to be silver instead of gold, but who's asking me right;-)

My thoughts are to snag the unique NAS items. You can always find a grey boyfriend blazer and white button down. The Guess jacket is unique, the Chanel-esque jacket was MADE for you, and bags really step up a wardrobe like nothing else. If you don't have a black pencil skirt, you do need that and that's a good one.

Michelle - love everything for you except the red tunic - looks a bit shapeless, and not as vavoom as I perceive your style to be.

BTW - what list are you referring to of Angie's?

Oh - and I seriously covet the purple ruffle leather jacket. *drool*

A lot of people are liking the tunic, but it strikes me as baggy and shapeless. The boyfriend jacket and the skirt look great, and are real wardrobe staples.

I really think all of these picks look great. Based on looks and uniqueness of the items, my two top picks would be the purple coat and the handbag. I think the colors are very sophisticated in a way that is hard to find in the shops. The ruffles on the jacket are definitely very flirty, so you have got to like that aspect. (I have something similar myself, so I do.) Next tier would be the boyfriend blazer and the pencil skirt. Last picks would be the chanel-esque jacket and the tunics. This is just when I am forced to choose--all of the picks are really fab.

I am no help either because i think they are all FAB, so I am going to ditto Inge and Sarah...for all their fab reasons....I know I am cheating by piggybacking on their rational!!

I like them all, but would like to place my #1 vote for the chanel-esque Halogen jacket. I was lucky enough to see it on Rosie, and can attest to the fact that it is fab and, like Beth said, will easily go from day to evening. Based on pictures you've posted, I also think the chanel-esque jacket is totally your style. Can't wait to see what you end up with!

Michelle, I cast my critical eye over all of your selections, but I must say that I LOVE them all! Given that you live in a colder climate, the two jackets you have posted and the pencil skirt are really stunning and I think would give you a lot of different styling options. I hope these are on your absolute must list.

The only suggestion I can make is that if you are trying to reduce your total amount of spend, the "logical" part of my brain would possibly suggest you cut the handbag, just purely based on the price. Sorry I'm not more of a help, but maybe I am a (teeny-tiny) voice of reason!

Michelle -- even though I don't own either one, the three little words "purple leather jacket" and the two little words "turquoise handbag" have an effect on my cardiac rhythm.

Also, I can absolutely see you in the Chanel-esque jacket, which begs to be worn with a pencil skirt.

So, if you *must* whittle, I vote for getting those four. If whittling is really just an "Aw shucks, I shouldn't indulge myself like this" gesture, then get them all.
