My USA haul

Man, shopping in the US is amazing! MUCH lower sales tax than in Canada, a fair bit of selection for size 16s and very frequent sales...

Before I came to Atlanta, I ordered a few things online to be delivered to my hotel room. And since arriving in the city, I've also gone shopping.

I wanted to show you some shoes I LOVE that I ordered from Amazon.com

Michelle, in case you're reading, they are a 3" wedge, made in Italy, closed toe. They are metallic leather, mostly an antique gold but with a few stripes of metallic black and pearly gray. I hope they'll be comfy because I am in love with them.

Oh, Mac, those are sharp! I hope you find them comfy.

I have a pair of Franco Sarto's (the Tazer sandals from the YLF store), made in Italy, with a wedge heel like that over 3" and I find them very comfortable and stable and can wear them all day.

Mac, you must come to Philadelphia on your next trip -- Pennsylvania does not charge any sales tax at all on clothing...

Thanks, ladies. The leather feels like butter. The heel is surprisingly comfy and stable since it's a wedge.

I do worry a bit about my "pinky toes" - they might rub a bit, but I wore shoes yesterday that rubbed them so I can't be sure if they are just a bit swollen from that. Fingers crossed that they'll work, since I return to Canada tomorrow and there's no returning them then : )

So how did you get them shipped to your hotel room? I never thought of doing that when I'm in the US...Are you then able to use the "free return" option if you are not happy with the purchase? That's something we don't get here in Canada!

Please give me the details as I do go to the US at least twice a year. (Did you have them set to deliver to your hotel on a certain date, or did you just order the day before you arrived? Or perhaps you ordered from the hotel room? ) Inquiring minds want to know!

And I know what you are saying about the taxes! I was shopping in Syracuse a few months ago and almost laughed at the low taxes!

And everyone should come to the Mall of America in MN - no sales tax on clothing, lots of stores to choose from (including a very nice Nordstrom and a Nordstrom Rack), an amusement park in the middle if you are forced to bring children (then bring husbands to watch them), light rail to get to Downtown Minneapolis where the guys can catch a baseball or foot ball game. . .etc.

Oh, yes. I almost passed out with glee when I shopped in Minneapolis this summer. Not usually an Eileen Fisher fan (a bit granola for my tastes, normally) but found a FIERCE topper for 75% off AND zero tax. *happy sigh*

Sveta and Kim - I'll PM you with details about how Canadian ladies can rock online shopping.

Will definitely post more photos now that I'm home. The hotel room mirror was in a very dark corner so I wasn't able to snap any items on me.

Okay - next item from my haul was a pair of made-in-Portugal slippers. The company is named Po-Zu and tries to be very environmentally friendly; they promise that all the shoes they produce are at least 99% biodegradable.

These slippers are flipping unbelievably comfy and are made of unbleached wool with a latex sole. Michelle, if you're reading, they aren't very glamourous but HECK they'll be perfect for our long Canadian winters.

Maybe they don't deserve mention on a fashion website since they're just slippers, but I think the whole company - which makes lots of shoes - deserves mention for its pro-Green stance... and, of course, because they are in Rute's homeland : )

Sparky: I learn about all these cool brands by lurking on Amazon.com. I go to the shoe section and then tick various boxes that allow me to see only shoes priced between whatever dollar amounts I want, in my size, and at least 50% off the original price (cuz a pair of $65 shoes might be nice quality, but if they originally cost $150 then the chances of high quality are higher). Then I just scope around and find the occasional KILLER shoe for KILLER prices. There are lots of cool brands out there that I don't hear about otherwise 'cuz they don't spend a ton on advertising, but make an excellent product.

As far as the Dana Davis shoes are concerned, I usually take either a 9 or 9.5 and ordered these in a 9. They rubbed my pinky toes quite a bit when I wore them the first day, but from past experience I've learned that with a few wears shoes generally stretch a bit if necessary, so fingers crossed that these ones will stretch. My feet are average width and these seem to be a good width for me. The heels (3"+) are higher than I usually wear but as they are wedges, they feel quite stable. The come in purple or black suede, too.

Apparently, Dana Davis's "schtick" is making high heels comfortable so she supposedly works with all sorts of feet doctors. http://danadavis.com/Technology.html I can't truly say whether this shoe is comfy or not until I've broken them in, which will take a few more wears.

Jonesy: I'm going to try. I've only posted 2 outfit photos, ever; I can't promise to get over my post-a-phobia quickly but I am working on it.

Okay - next is a dress that I picked up at Macy's. I especially love the shape but it falls about 2 inches below my knee, and I think it should probably be shortened a wee bit. What do you think of the length? Michelle - it's a v-neck dress that's narrow through the waist and then flares out a bit: dark brown with cream, light brown and black spots.

I also bought a belt inspired by the elasticized wide belts I've seen Marianna sport.

The oxfords are not from my US haul but rather were ordered online from a Canadian source called Gravity Pope. The full body shot doesn't do them justice, so a few closeups for your viewing pleasure : )

The dress looks gorgeous on you. It's somewhat trendy right now to have skirts and dresses hit a bit lower, but at the knee seems universally flattering to my eye (or right above). I guess I'm saying I could go either way on the length. If you keep it long, higher heels might look sassier (so, those WEDGES, for example!!). Those oxfords are really beautiful, and look very well-made. Are they taupe? So chic.

Yeah, the oxfords are a kind of metallic taupe. They are hand-made in Italy... with a price tag to match, alas : ) They feel like butter on my feet, and wore them without socks most of today... with no resulting blisters!!!! (a huge deal for me)

I think you're right - I tried on the dress with my new wedges and it looked better with heels.

BJ111 - thanks for the comment about my figure. I feel pretty lousy these days and am trying to perk myself up with wardrobe updates; a compliment like yours helps more than you can know.
