Moto and Me no go

I was excited to try the Ensemble because I knew I had the pieces. Of course I had to bling it up a bit with a metallic moto (that I never wear) and coordinating metallic cons.
I know why I don't wear this moto. It's just not me. I took this photo and had to change before heading to Peking Duck with family. I even tried different jeans (because this was a bit much even for me), but that didn't make me feel comfortable in the moto. Have you ever had something you just can't make work?
It was fun to experiment though.
Zara stripe top, Jones NY moto, MK belt, DIY patch jeans (vigoss), Gold Chucks, chunky pearls (gift a long time ago).

Its a cute moto... Would some plainer jeans or plain black pants work better perhaps... I quite like the top part... or the bottom with a different top half! I am not much use really. Will be good to see others' views.

Love the jacket! To my eye, this outfit is cutting you in half:(. I wonder if you need to try that jacket with a higher waisted jeans or pants?? Just a thought. I think playing with the proportions might just make it work

I agree with Deborah, it's about proportions being off. I was so missing the proportion thing when I began this journey. Love the jacket and the top half of the look.

I actually like the jacket… and love your necklace. The gold metallic works well with your coloring. I agree with others that this is more an issue of proportions. I wonder what the same outfit would look like without tucking your top. When I wear motos that are less cropped, I prefer to wear an untucked top or a tunic in order for the proportions to be more personally pleasing.

I love the jacket! Well, you knew I would. It's so nice to see you post, and I love all the pieces in the outfit. I think maybe the issue is the jacket plus the distressed jeans plus the stripes equals a lot of visual busy-ness. I had a similar feeling when I was playing with this ensemble. I'd probably save the metallic jacket for a more tonal look to let it shine (heh) more on its own. However, I know what you mean about pieces like this jacket seems to be for you, which are not the easiest to work with for your style.

I like the gold jacket as well! I also like your gold watch. And gold belt. And gold sneakers.... Hmm. Perhaps you have too many blingy statement pieces going on at once?

What happens if you remove the gold watch, gold belt, and gold sneakers?

These are all good suggestions, I might try and see if they change my mind. I did already try different jeans and untucking without taking photo, and I'm sure they looked better, but I think I just don't love the jacket. I have a bunch of denim jackets, faux leather and another moto vest (black) that I never never wear because I just never like them on me. I must figure out why that is or just purge them all and move on.
Shiny you are absolutely right - the belt was too much!

Lol! I really like this on you. I had a silver Bebe metallic moto that I felt the same way about. I ended up purging it because I got so frustrated trying to wear it. Something about it was just too OTT for my conservative self. You can definitely pull this off so I hope that you can make peace with it. You look fab!

I have a metallic jacket that I can't seem to wear. I have metallic boots that I've worn a lot , so I don't know what the problem is.

I think Shiny's right -- it's too much gold, too much going on in one outfit. I like all the pieces individually.

If you're not sure about you and moto jackets, perhaps a more subtle colour would be the way to go. Although you say you don't wear your black one, either. Can you find a word or two to describe how the moto jacket makes you feel?

I'd like to see that jacket over a LBD, or other column-of-color ensemble. As others have said, maybe remove all the other bling first, and then add some back in if you really feel the need to "tie in" the metallic element...

Maybe you need something softer and less structured? Like a Vince scuba jacket... the leather is so soft and sumptuous, it feels like you are wearing a cardigan. Here's an example. Comes in lots of colors:

Otherwise I love the idea of a metallic jacket but in reality I'd probably also feel off in it too. I can do metallic in smaller doses. I have been tempted at the thought of a metallic tote, but even that seems a bit much for me. A clutch perhaps, but a tote is too much of a good thing. For me I mean - not knocking it on others.

I like the jacket and I don't think you should give up on it. I think part of the issue in this look is that the jacket shoulders are bulky, the way your hair is lying on them also adds volume and the necklace is volume -- all in the same general vicinity.

How does the jacket look if you wear something like a dark v-neck merino sweater, and dark pants?

Angie and Rachylou - thanks for helping confirm the fun it! I may (or may not) try other versions, but this was fun. I did not actually wear it out so no need to call the liberace or vegas elvis police on me.
I still like the idea of the moto, but don't think they will ever do it for me no matter how well styled with all the great suggestions here.

I agree w others abt proportions. Also my first thought like another above was to see this over something more tonal or monochromatic. I think a jacket like this wants all the attention and with the distressing, shoes and belt they are all fighting for that attention.

JjSloane, I may be a lone voice here, but I think that if you don't feel good in something, you shouldn't keep it. I think we should feel fantastic in a piece of clothing...I always feel best when I feel like ME! When I buy something that I "think" I should own because a magazine suggested it, I end up feeling like I'm wearing a "costume version" of me. Trust your gut!
