Olive and some other weird colour with black :-)

I started adding olive pieces to my far-too-heavily-black-leaning wardrobe in very early 2020, so I do have a few pieces to play with.

Since I had an excuse to go out today I figured I would wear a pair of lightweight camo joggers that might not see much wear again until spring (they're not very warm and I don't see wearing tights under them, although I suppose anything is possible...)

In any case, the camo joggers are new this fall. The light/bright olive sweater from H&M has only seen a couple of wears since I purchased it in early 2020. The black puffer is Joe Fresh - a few years old and fits very differently now. Scarf is new from a couple of winters ago.

I have found I like these pants better for around home than to wear out. I thought the brighter olive top would help lighten the look, but it still felt heavy to me. Maybe I needed pattern in the scarf? Maybe a solid olive tneck would have been better to create a column of colour? I might play with some other options later, but must go sneak in a bit of yard work now before the weather closes in!

I think the outfit is great as it is. Having said that, if you’d like to brighten it up, perhaps try it with white/cream sweater instead? Love the fit of those joggers.

Well, there is no room for improvement here. This outfit is PERFECT. I love the colors on you, the pants are fantastic and everything fits beautifully. This is exactly the kind of chic casual look I would so much like to achieve, but never really get there. You look gorgeous.

How convenient that the jacket fits you like that just as roomier fits are trending! I agree with the others that this is great, but you could lighten it by adding some cream. How about a crew or mock T-neck under the sweater? Or you could do light-colored footwear. I liked the way the black laces on the white shoes in #4 in Angie’s post today tied (haha) them into the outfit. Or how does cognac work with that sweater? It’s light color lite. But no need, just suggestions because you asked.

I like this as is although I'm not sure the color is showing up true on my screen. Love the pants, might as well keep wearing them as long as the weather cooperates! Fun boots too.

Tanya -- thanks. I agree cream would work well. Your comment about the fit of the joggers makes me giggle a bit. I washed them for the first time the other day hoping they would shrink a bit as I felt they were a bit sloppy -- and it appears they altered themselves just the right amount. They feel much better now!

The top reads as ‘mustard’ on my monitor, but I quite like the combination you’ve put together here. No need to style it differently.

Carla, it's a hard colour to quantify -- it is greener than mustard or cognac, so I equated it to some very yellow olives in the Benjamin Moore fan deck. Although now that I actually compare the top to those paint chips, they are still much more green. So... I don't know what to call the colour now!

Chartreuse?
The yellow tinge does come through—part of why I suggested cognac shoes.

Yeah it is quite a bit more green thank my cognac shoes. But the same intensity of colour, so they could work together in the right tonal look. It's an oddball. I don't know if it's really chartreuse either. I think of that as being brighter. No?

Googling “chartreuse” brings up so many shades and tones that I think of it kind of like “pink” which is a thousand different colors. But you & many others here know this stuff better than I do.

I’m seeing a mustard top , not olive but I’m on my phone so there is that . I personally like pink with olive when I’m feeling too blah about an olive and black outfit - and I’m not exactly a pink person . It makes me feel a little more feminine…..but that’s my issue , not yours , lol. Cobalt is nice with camo too - if you’re into that colour . You’re making me want to get out my camo joggers which I haven’t worn in ages .

I like the outfit as it is, and I do think the top lightens it up. Super cute look! But I also like Angie's idea that SF brings up, which would be to add a shade of white, if you wanted more lightness. Maybe in the top and/or scarf.

Hmmm, wonder if the top is like a dark ochre color, which is like a mustard with olive undertones…
i like the outfit you’ve wore, and i hear you on trying to lighten up the outfit, but I’d also try to the other way, go dark with a black sweater and than the olive scarf would pop.

I like the style of the outfit in general, not so keen on the colour of that top with it, my first thought was mustard? Also on phone so colour may not look true. The black puffer looks great!

Alright y'all -- here's why I can't quite call that top 'mustard'. At right is a mustard strip from a cognac/cream/mustard scarf. At left my cognac sneakers. Centre is the weird coloured top. What shall we call it?!?!

Yeah, I might defer to dark/murky ochre. It's definitely an oddball colour -- which is kind of why I bought it. But now the trick is to figure out how to work with it!!

So, whatever the heck we call the colour, odds are good I might not rush to pair it with these pants again. I have other options that will be better. But, it was fun to experiment and do some crowdsourcing on just what that colour might be!! I'm still convinced I have a paint sample somewhere that is called OLIVE that reads that colour. Well, not as convinced as I was.

Lisa, I don't wear cobalt, but that's an interesting idea with camo. I do and would wear pink with it!

KKards, I might have been happier in some ways with a black top -- although I was happy to get some wear from that funny coloured top and bring a bit of lightness to the whole thing. Next time!

It’s a greenish brown. Less yellow than mustard. I like “cumin”.

I like the outfit as is. A patterned scarf could help to lighten things up.

Sometimes in Autumn the darker colours from head to toe feel heavy after summer. And it’s about getting used to them as the weather cools. Maybe that’s an issue here?

I like this outfit, and I like the color of the top - it's warm and works with olive.

But the other suggestions above would be fun to try - ivory, pink, lilac, even a floral? A knit with a texture? Or be my crazy twin and do orange

Thanks, Brooklyn. You could be right that it's a bit of the "still adjusting to the change of weather" thing. I've also been craving juicy colour lately and really don't have any in my closet yet. I have at lease one patterned scarf I think I would like with this look. Will give that a try.

Thank you, Sloper! I would love to add some orange to my closet and I would happily be your orange twin. As to adding texture, I'd run away with Chris's olive fisherman sweater in a heartbeat. I do have an oversized olive sweater I can wear with it tho.

I actually like the colour of the shirt with olive because I suppose the puffer and joggers kind of blend in other colours too and the scarf picks up similar colours in the joggers. It all looks very edgy with the boots and casually cool.

Altho the top does read mustard on my monitor, in the photo with the scarf and shoes, I see the difference. That's a color I would call a burnished golden green. Whatever you want to call it, I think the combo in your original photo is perfect as is. I'd wear it in a hot minute. You look fab!

You look edgy, which is just up my street I like LisaP's idea of cobalt blue with camo. I like navy with it but will have to try cobalt. Wearing a cobalt turtleneck today, and wore camo's yesterday
