If you could have one splurge, independent of cost, what would it be?

A woman came into my office today with a black handbag. She's a very lovely person but does not dress in a particularly stylish or elegant way. But my eyes kept sweeping back to her bag because it was a perfect scale, with a nice back pocket, beautiful quilted leather and had a gold chain and leather strap and sure enough I finally got a glimpse of the 2 entwined C's on the front. So there was my covet the Chanel 2.55. This got me thinking, if I could have a single splurge would I buy it? What would I buy? Larger diamond studs? Burberry trench? John Hardy necklace? White gold and diamond watch? or that Chanel 2.55 in black? I'm not sure. What would you buy?

Nothing in particular now that I bought my Vince suede & leather pants!!
Probably some designer booties. My eye keeps getting drawn to $300 - $500 styles lol. Or an awesome piece of silver jewelry.

Mo I was thinking a fabulous piece of jewelry always fits but if you were going to plunk down a bundle for it, I would want something that I would wear all the time. That's the toughie, were would it be best spent!!
Thistle - hum, have you checked out Moncler (this is the tiny spring collection at bloomies they had a ton in the fall/winter http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....rand-_-ALL DESIGNERS-_-Moncler I know Canada Goose gets raves. Of course, Shannon got her leather puffer, hum was that Danier? But I thought Moncler had some nice coats - they were just very spendy!!

I was thinking some kind of giant rock. However, if we're sticking to fabric things, a pair of Stella McCartney trousers has long been on my list. But then I have to ask myself, why wouldn't I just keep going and get some made for me? Does Stella only do off-the-rack?

I ought to say one of those $2000 puffers. But then I'd want one of those pure fashion nonsense ones at that price point... sooooooo office inappropriate.

I have always admired David Yurmin watches. And there have been several styles from Tag Heuer that I like too. So maybe a nice watch.

I would buy a vintage Rolex. The one I have wanted for 20 years has a gray face and a two-tone band. It's probably terribly out of fashion, but I've wanted it for so long, I really don't care. My husband gave me a gorgeous diamond rimmed watch for our 5th anniversary. I love it, but the Rolex still calls to me. Oddly enough, he said he was going to buy me an old Rolex instead, but he figured I wouldn't want something "used". It was all I could do not to whimper. Just as well though I suppose, I always envisioned it would be something I bought myself. Someday when I'm finally done writing mega checks to colleges and private schools...sigh.

This is a really interesting exercise on perspective. I think my current dream splurges would be basics to many. Also in turn some of my basics are dream splurges for others. I'm sure the pattern of 'see, love, worry over/justify, go home, think, go back, ask for validation, search other outlets, etc. buy or not buy' is the same though. For me it was a $49 bag, for another it might be $4.99 bag or a $499 or $4,999 one.

I will say that one thing that seems to me to be really independent of cost is the appeal of something to your senses. The appeal of certain natural textures, colors in rarer or more saturated or subtle shades, form and craftsmanship - cut, fittings, linings, detail/hardware.

I don't think I've ever experienced a sensory euphoria connected with fashion as strongly as seeing and touching the shelves and shelves of silk at Nalli's saree shop in Mumbai. It instantly converted me into a lover of pink.

That chanel 2.55 you and I both covet and diamond 2.00 carat each ( 4.00 carat total) diamond studs- incidentally my sister has both. Sigh.

When push comes to shove, jewelry will always win for me. I would choose a sizeable diamond right hand ring or larger diamond stud earrings.

As far as clothing goes, I would likely go with an Alexander McQueen Leather jacket or coat.

Money isn't the obstacle; my barriers to style satisfaction are time, skills (managing custom work requires its own skill set), bandwidth for decision-making.

So my sensible splurge would be a personal style-consultant-and-purchasing-manager.

But even the saintliest of stylists would quickly get very annoyed with my preferences. And too many other priorities take precedence at the moment. So I'm muddling through, somehow. Sort of.

I would love the experience of spending a week to 10 days in Paris and being fit for a couture garment. Preferably a classic Chanel suit. Then I would wear the heck out of it!

A couture evening dress from Eli Saab
A classic tweed skirt suit from Chanel (off the rack with alterations would be fine)
A tiara (non-conflict diamonds preferred)

MRL - CL heels would be fabulous!! So gorgeous. Hey, I went for the Valentino rockstuds - so I am with you on shoes. But I did go for the kitten heel!! You must have really good knees!!
Rachylou - you crack me up!! You have a great selection going!! No "rocks" are not off limits. Any accessory, adornment, ie the boulder of your choice. Notice I had huge diamond studs on my potential list. Plus I am sure if you have enough cash Stella would not only do special order she would probably come to your house!! Since the sky is the limit in our imaginations we can dream, right!!?
Susie - David Yurman does gorgeous everything and a watch would be incredible. Yes, Tag Heuer also does marvelous ones. A cartier Tank platinum with diamonds would not be a shabby choice either!!
IK - I think you would look fab in anything by Rick Owens and a coat would be so special. That would be a marvelous choice!
Carter - I hope, hope, hope you get your rolex!! Anything you've waited for so long should be yours. Plus after surviving those college checks you deserve to live it up a little bit!! I really hope you find exactly the one you've dreamed of!!
Aziraphale - a great wool winter coat is not just elegant but it's so practical. Since this is fantasy think cashmere, camel hair, alpaca!! or perhaps something by DVF she made to amazingly pretty ones this year!!
