Mine would be either a pair of 300-500 dollar Frye boots (who is kidding, I'd like more than one-- or perhaps the Gidigio boots Una owns) or a Citizen or other waterproof, self-winding quality stainless steel BF watch. Practical-- but also indicative of the level of purchasing I am and am not comfortable with. I have .49 tcw (i.e. .245 each) diamond studs that were similar in price to many Fryes and were a gift, and I couldn't imagine any larger. A unique artisan piece of jewelry might make the list.

Hmm. I don't generally covet particularly spendy things (except real estate LOL). But I love the idea of a very large, un-twinkly, emerald cut diamond ring. Very plain, in a platinum setting.

This would be one of those "be careful what you wish for" scenarios, since if someone showed up at my door right now with that ring, my first reaction would be that I don't want to own anything that has to be kept in a safety deposit box.

Definitely the Acne Mape leather jacket. It's my dream biker jacket. It's $1600... and I bought a Theory one this year before discovering it. So, definitely not in the cards. I'm trying to love the one I have (which is indeed awesome).

Oooooh......so much fun, just reading these! gryffin, as always, you start the best threads, and rabbit, I was positively salivating at the thought of all that silk, and warm pinks....

I love Carla's idea --- a trip to Paris with a suit fitting. I'm not sure I'd choose Chanel. Maybe I'd go to St. Laurent for "le smoking." Maybe somewhere entirely different. Maybe it doesn't have to be Paris, for that matter. Could be London or New York. As long as I come away with an amazing, made to measure suit and some wonderful memories.

But on the same level would be a trip to Seattle to work with Angie and an opportunity to buy whatever she told me to buy -- absolutely love that idea!

Also on the list -- a fantastic silver cuff.

rabbit - you are truly wise. That is a really insightful and thought provoking answer. Yes, the more sense that an item engages the more compelling it would be - total immersion. I have never seen a sari IRL, only photos, they look so gorgeous, I can imagine an entire shop would be totally overwhelming!! but in a really good way!
Sona - we are totally one on this. I was not greedy. I only cover 1.5 carat studs, 3 karat total weight!! (little ears and I'd sleep in them!!) Your sister is a very lucky woman!!
Echo - I have a real love of diamonds. Their fire just does it for me. Really big rock would totally work. Wow, A McQ leather jacket or coat would be so special. Gosh, I'd be happy with a scarf!!
Sona - I could not decide either, so no worries!!
Amy K- you know a stylish is an incredibly good idea. Just having a master plan, wardrobe consult, photos, outfit planning, hey lets throw in make up, hair and spec consult if you need it. That is truly a fantastic pick!!
Runcarla - what a fantastic idea. Did you ever read Paul Gallico's "Mrs. 'Arris goe to Paris?" It's an absolutely adorable book and it would let you get your wish vicariously!! Another awesome choice!!
Alaskagirl - a bespoke Burberry trench - awesome!! That would truly be the ne plus ultra of fabulous!
IK - of course you would!! You'd need to be somewhere appropriate to wear that Rick Owen coat!!
torontogirl - how beautiful. I think you'd need a whole armful? No?
Peri - you must be an amazing pianist to lust for an instrument of that caliber! I do hope you get it!! But just in case, a really big diamond is never amiss!!
Windchime - awesome!! Absolutely counts as one, hey, I threw in hair, make up and specs for Amy K!!
Mary K - may your wish be granted!! Only your knees and feet have the tolerance for the tall ones!! I hope you get yours, but what color would you get? I think that would be a really touch choice for you!!
Fuzzy - I think you live on the wrong continent. Hum, prince harry is still up for grabs!! We need to get you into a castle asap, retina scan approved for access to the crown jewels and then off for your fittings!!
Laurinda - that would be a fantastic choice!! But who would make them? Plain or detailed. You have a lot of choices left. They have to be the ultimate most fab cognac boots so comfy you could sleep in them!!
Debora - hum, we'll need to get extra help at the burberry store. Of course, like Una's idea of custom. Wouldn't that be the ultimate of fab!!
Jaileen - a watch is such a great choice since you can wear it every day for forever. Nothing could be more elegant, classic and functional than a cartier tank!! Fantastic choice!
Museumgal - those brogues would be so elegant and just perfect for your style!! also a fantastic handbag is just such a great pleasure. Great picks!!

I once met a guy wearing a Clive Christian fragrance - I can't recall if it was No. 1 or 1872. My co-worker and I nearly jumped over a counter to get over there and sniff this guy (who was used to this reaction from men and women alike, and quite amused). The scent was hypnotic. So given an unlimited budget, a fragrance from that line, or something custom-blended to my liking. How decadent would that be?

Barring that, I would love love love this Dior Samourai 1947 bag in black. The handle makes me think of something from a fairy tale, like the thorns around Sleeping Beauty's castle.

I wouldn't say no to one of these Chanel boy bags, in black, either...

Elly - those are all awesome choices!! Fantastic boots of any kind are so practical but such a pleasure. When they are comfy you never want to wear anything else. A fabulous watch, I wear a watch eveyday. Practical and gorgeous. Sometimes I agree big is just too big. In my fantasy life, I would see, 1.5 carat each earring but bigger would be way too big. No right or wrong, scale, perspective, taste..one personal ideal would be someone elses nightmare!! The good part is we can all have a fantasy of what would please us and that's all that is important!!
April - jewelry should be enjoyed!! Hopefully if you got it it would be insured and you could wear it in the bath, at the beach, in the garden with no worries!! It would not be a pleasure if you had to worry about it!! PS maybe a little penthouse, beach cottage, walled country estate to keep it in?
Greyscale - that is an amazing jacket. I do hope you get it or one like it. It's seems much more cropped than your jacket. Your theory is really gorgeous and suits you, but yes, can a girl have too many options, that's a toughie. I really hope you are enjoying your jacket, it's drool worthy but it's just unfair when something else turns up so soon that really pulls at your heart!! Keep stalking it, you never know what will happen!!
Suz - all amazing ideas. I love the idea of "le smoking!!" That would be so fabulous. OTOH, since suits are so difficult maybe they could make you some daywear at the same time. Perhaps it could be a complete wardrobing!! Gosh, wouldn't a day with Angie be fab!! But you know we'd need updates, you'd have to have her come to your place and do the closet overhaul. This would need major planning on maximum scope!! Of course, a great silver cuff would be a great interim treat!! Ah sigh, such fantastic fantasies!!

Maybe bespoke footwear for my fussy feet or a bespoke leather jacket. . .I would want something that I wouldn't be afraid to wear. I suppose footwear would be less likely to be stolen, right?

Gryffin, there are two versions of the jacket (cropped and not cropped). I want the longer one. It hits me at the waistband of my jeans, which is just about perfect for me. It's still on the shorter side, but not cropped per se.

I already bought mine: the Aquatalia Rhumba boots. So now I am done. :^)

Rabbit *is* very wise. But she needs to beware...after spending more time on this forum, she will become like the rest of us!!! *evil laugh* (Rabbit, I used to be like you.)

Well, now that someone mentioned getting something custom made, that's probably what I'd do. Preferably in an exotic location I get to travel to.

Or can I buy one item of really expensive jewelry and then resell it so I can buy a bunch of stuff?

That reminds me of Steve Martin's Holiday Wish:

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/86/86fwish.phtml

There are no clothing items I particularly want that cost more than, say, $200. So I'd have to say if I were going to splurge, it would be on a vacation. I know a person like the OP mentions. Her clothes are not great, but she has a million designer handbags. Personally, I don't get the bad clothes/expensive bag look, but whatever.

This!
I have no idea how much it is because the designer has not emailed me back.

Wow Deb that ring is just so beautiful. Please share if you get more info:)

I find this a really difficult question, it kinds of sends my head into a spin:) I am pretty sure this Rick Owens leather and shearling jacket (providing it is available - I think it's the '09 collection) would have to be mine. If not this, then something very similar from Rick.

A Chanel jacket. There was an upscale resale shop in my old town in NC that had one once, and it was the most beautiful thing I've ever put on. They wanted $750 for it, and some days I still regret not buying it. It didn't really fit at the time (that was my reason for not), but it would fit now.

Alas, I'll have to go to Paris and pick out my own.

LBD - you find the most amazing stuff!! First, I've never heard of that perfume but it must be incredible hurdling this guy! The Dior handbag is not a purse it's a work of art. Amazing. But OMG, I never sawe the Chanel boy bag!! Goodbye 2.55 hello boy! I have a real thing for black quilted leather. I bought a Zara quilted chanel style moto - I never went for a Chanel style tweedy jacket because it felt a bit conservative to me, but the Zara - well leather, quilting, black zips - it references it but it's playful, fun and yes, rocker tough. Wow, would I ever love that boy bag - as is silver hardware. That would take all hint of too iconic out of it. You had to do it LBD, you know I'm never going to get that image out of my head and I am sure I could never afford that splurge!! Sigh!!
Donna - those are both awesome choices. Also if you never take the jacket off it can't be stolen!! Isn't it terrible we have to even think that way!! But you are so right, if you are going to splurge you want to be able to wear and enjoy it, not venerate it in the closet (well that too before and after wearing!!
Greyscale - oy, it just sounds like you think it's perfect. That's sad that my comparison, it makes you less happy with your awesome theory jacket. I would definitely keep stalking. Honestly, you never know with these things and if it dropped in price you could always consider your options. Good luck!! they are both truly gorgeous!!
Gigi - oooohhh Aquatalia boots are so fab!! Congrats!! But Gigi, we must not corrupt Rabbit!! Run, rabbit, Run!!! We will have to send Gigi to bed without supper or tea and confiscate her copy of Vogue!!
Laura - what a practical girl you are!! Find a way around the "only one" restriction!! Yes, it's fantasy you can pick what you want and put it right onto ebay!! Curious what you'd pick and then what you'd get afterward!!

JAileen - I never saw this!! I love Steve Martin, that is sooooooooooo funny!! and yes, I think we sound just like that. First I'd like peace on earth and while you're at it I'll take that Chanel boy bag!!
petitesanonymous - it's your fantasy and you can have whatever you like. Many people don't covet things, they'd rather have experiences. I think it's great whatever you choose!! It's a fantastic trait to be happy with what you have and what you can have!! kudos!!
Deb - gorgeous ring. Modern, sleek, chic and would go with everything. I can see why you'd want it!! May it be within your reach!!
Deborah - OMG what an incredible piece!! Also like a completely modern take on a tailcoat. Something steampunk but totally modern. Definitely drool worthy!! I love the whole outfit and I could see you in it exactly!! Wow, wow, wow!! I hope it or something very like it comes to you!! You would look amazing in that coat!! (PS if it's on 2 for 1, call me!!)
froggiebecky - that is so sad!! I hate the "one that got away" I still regret not picking up a green guess bomber jacket with gorgeous embroidery when I was 20 and that was 24 y ago!! I wish you your Chanel jacket with perfect fit always!! Keep looking!! You never know, sometimes lightening does strike twice!!

Most of my real splurge desires involve moving and/or travelling and/or little cottages in the woods & by the sea.

But after some thought (if the Frye knee high lace up Melissas came in grey, those would be it, but they don't): a self-renewing lingerie drawer of perfectly fitting undies & bras in luxury fabrics (wools, silks, & finest cottons, both knit & woven for different styles).

A fun thread. I would purchase a shearling coat.

Another candidate for Diamond studs. Atleast 1 carat each

Upon further reflection it would be probably jewelry, even though I'm not a big bling person. At least then I'd feel like there was a possibility I could wear it for the rest of my life. Maybe a reworking of my wedding band, which is loose now that I've lost weight. I'm really attracted to rose gold right now.

A really killer black tuxedo jacket.
I fell for a Rag and Bone one at Intermix in Georgetown in the fall, but I am not sure that is the one I would choose. Possibly. I just know I'd love an impeccably cut one that I could wear with jeans or dress up.

E - I'm having flashes of Gull Cottage from the Ghost and Mrs. Muir with a widow's walk and a long winding path covered with wildflowers down to the beach!! I like the self renewing lingerie drawer!! Gosh never to have to shop and alway perfect little items waiting for you. That's a very elegant idea!!
Lisa - a shearling coat would be so warm and luxe!! Very practical but oh so useful especially with all the cold right now!! Fab choice!
Ramya - diamonds are a girls best friend!!
Laura - that's why I considered jewelry too. It has intrinsic value and usually it wlil last a life time. A gorgeous and practical choice!!
Viva - I think a great tux jacket can take you anywhere. That would be a fabulous investment piece. Of course, the matching trousers would not hurt to have either!!

Another vote for the Burberry Trench, and I love the idea of A.G's bespoke one

Add me to the Burberry trench list. Do you think we'd get a discount for ordering in bulk?

I'm really liking the Rockstuds in black patent.

But generally I'm on Team I'd Rather Have an Experience.

Lyn D - I think we would all like that bespoke burberry!! Mine would be black with leather sleeves!! Ah the fantasies!!
Emily - did you ever see the film "Highlander" where Sean Connery's character is getting a custom suit made to order as he waits? I am thinking we'd get a whole store to ourselves, open bar, vast buffet including chocolate fountain with personal sales people (let's think pretty woman) while throngs of busy bees make and fit the trenches as we party!! Of course, there would be a group discount and photo shoot too!!
Mary K - you would look divine in those black patent rockstuds and my knees are aching at the thought!! Gosh, would you really have an experience instead? Pass me the shoes - I'll take the flat version in matte black!

Oh Ghost and Mrs. Muir is so good!

Fashionwise, at the moment, I think it would be a leather Burberry trench, perhaps this one:

or this:

Otherwise, my dream splurge would involve travel. I'm incredibly lucky to be days away from a big, amazing trip right now, so I'm definitely indulging. How many people get the experience of visiting Antarctica, right?
