How this blazer didn't kill light blue for me, I'll never know

An actual exhibited (why???) version of my high school uniform blazer (and my Grade 9 photo and the exact kilt we had to wear, that someone is selling evidently).

I mean ...

What were the nuns trying to do? Repel any wayward boys? Ensure we'd remain humble? Give us a preview of what Hell might be like? We'll never really know for sure.

I might be of the minority, but I think school uniforms, and yours in particular, looks super cute and neat. How fab to NOT have to worry about what to wear everyday! I'm ofcourse saying this as someone who didn't have to wear any uniform

Angie, you are BEYOND gracious. The colour was okay I guess, but the fabric was some sort of horrible felt-ish material, and that piping and plastic buttons were just horrific. Suffice it to say, unless compelled by force, we tended to opt for the navy blue pullover, which we could choose to wear over our blouse instead of the blazer for everyday - but the blazer was mandatory for photo day. Twisted!

Synne, yes, I did enjoy having a uniform, and I wish my kids had one!

Sara, I get it, but I did like that the uniform was very equalizing, even as a teen... a nice counterpoint to the branded-clothing-contest (spoiler alert: I had no branded clothing) that was my non-uniform primary school!

Hey, points to your school for going with a color OTHER than navy blue!

In grade school we shared a bus with an all-girls Catholic high school. I LOVED their uniforms (white oxford button downs, plaid skirts and optional navy blue sweaters) and loved seeing how they individualized their looks. I thought these girls were just the epitome of cool.

Maybe cheap fabric and buttons but very cute. I wish I was wearing that nice blue color in my school.

Haha- at least you wear blue well! Why is it that 90+% of uniforms are blue of some sort?
I definitely don't think uniforms are equalizing. When you're "different" you look that much more different in a uniform- voice of experience.

I actually liked the colours, although I agree that the fabric of the blazer was weird. A lot of my elementary friends went to a school with green plaid kilts. I thought those were awful.

I loved wearing a uniform to school. So easy in the morning.

That is actually a really nice uniform by uk standards,l had to wear bottle green and bright yellow,puts it into perspective doesn’t it!

Suntiger, that is interesting. I guess my thinking was somewhat socioeconomic, as my primary school had a huge divide that could no longer be spotted once we were all in the same kilt and shoes. I would love to hear more about your perspective if you wanted to share.

Beaux Batons blue (from ‘Harry Potter’)!

Mine was Black Watch pinafore (‘70’s). You could wear any colour t-shirt or turtleneck that could be bought through the uniform store. I had pale blue, pale green, pale yellow, navy, dark green, and white. A white long sleeve turtleneck was ‘the uniform’ for church and special occasions. No tights! Navy blue knee socks. My brothers wore grey flannel trousers and BW blazers. T-shirts or turtlenecks (no ties.)

Fabric looks stiff and rough but you look adorable and the color is good. No uniform past nor present for me.

My bottle green uniform was WAY worse. It was definitely designed to make us all look ill in the shapeless sack pinafore and matching blazer.

Haha you were so cute! I was jealous of my friends who went to Catholic school and got to wear uniforms (saddle shoes!) - maybe that was one reason I had my kids go to Catholic schools! I loved that they wore uniforms - so easy and wore like iron. My daughter once spilled milk on her skirt and it rolled right off.
