Help...epic fail...flared skirt & long blazer

So glad I’m doing a test run. In my head this skirt and the long blazer worked perfectly like the examples in Angie’s post. But not so much in reality. Also tried the double breasted blazer, also not working. Ideas on what to wear with this skirt????

Try the opposite? Soft or cropped like a cardigan or a cropped jacket or a large scarf tied into a poncho—ish top?

I don’t actually think it is an epic fail but maybe like me you favour more conventional proportions .lf that is the case you need a more cropped upper half or something to tuck in.Have you got a shorter jacket or cardigan that would work?and you could try a wide belt as well to define your waist..If you want a less formal look,white sneakers could work with this skirt as well.

What is the brief? Work, social, or other? For casual juxtapose the dressiness of the skirt with white sneakers and a white jean jacket. I like the longer length of the first jacket and wonder if a sock bootie might raise the style quotient? A white sweater top with a welted waist, and your (fabulous) white booties if you don’t require the formality of a jacket. Maybe your striped mariner top? I like the idea of more pattern.

I love that skirt, and think this looks classic and polished with the blazers, just not trendy. I’m curious to see what other suggest. I wonder what a longer topper would like?

I don’t think it’s an epic failure at all. It skews more conservative than trendy but it looks good. I think it depends on what you’re going for. What about pointy toe flats, graphic tee with blazer?

To my eye the skirt in the fabric has a different vibe from the jacket. It’s drapier, and seems both more casual, but also more “party” than the jacket. And, since it falls back against your body, the flared aspect isn’t as pronounced. Could you do something like an asymmetrical knit? Or, I like any of the other suggestions. Both the jackets and the skirt are great, but I can see they might not work together.

It is not epic failure but if you don’t like it maybe you can try with the less contrast but fitted top?

Looking back at the pictures...maybe not a epic fail, but more like a working girl 1990s look and less current and fresh then I was hoping. Ideally I was looking for an outfit I could wear to the Jewish holidays. Like the idea of pointy flats or sock boots will them a try.

Two tweaks, if you were my client:

Heeled dressy booties - not pumps
Scrunch the sleeves of the blazer, or cuff them

Do you still have the tulle skirt from a few NAS's ago? If so, try that!

Your eye's not used to it, is all. Try Angie's tips. Also, move around some in it. Wear some version of this around the house, take out the trash, stoop and feed the pets, lift things up to a higher shelf, go grocery shopping.....

Angie....yes, i still have the navy tulle skirt and will probably be wearing it...i'm looking at 4-5 outfits all together....and honestly, i was trying this skirt because its an orphan, largely becuase i didn't follow your rules about making sure i had the right top for the skirt before i bought it....i'm going to give it a try with my navy sock boots, and try cuffing the sleeves of the blazer...

Agreeing with Anchie to try a low contrast top with it, or maybe with your white booties? Or a cutaway style jacket? I wouldn't call it an epic fail!

I agree this was not a fail at all! You've got great suggestions here; my only added suggestion is a knit ... I've seen many of these skirts styled with more classic fine knits, as well as chunkier and oversized sweaters which looks a little more modern ... I pinned this the other day in case I find a way to justify a similar skirt!

All the ideas have been put forth here already, and I agree with others in that it's not a fail, it's just too conservative for you. I'd wear a different jacket altogether - in a pattern or different colour, and boots for sure.

I don't think it's a fail. Maybe a cardigan would be more what you're looking for here? The jacket is really structured, and the skirt is more flowy, so maybe the softer lines of the cardigan would match the "feeling" of the skirt a bit more?
