Help me pick gold summer shoe - preppy or glam?

I'd like to add a gold summer shoe (not a need, just a want) I loved Rita's topsiders http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....hday-party and found these at the Rack ($59.95)

Now I am embracing my preppiness, but I have to admit this might be a bit far for me.
I also have thought I'd like a pair of jeweled thong sandals (my magpie tendencies at work) and found these at the Rack today too in gold ($39)

They are nicely made and not walking shoes, but very pretty and the back and thong combo does not bother my foot like some of these styles do)
What do you think? Topsiders (practical and preppy), Fergie's (glam and blingy)

What would get more wear this summer?

My guess is the topsiders. I think they are more neutral and versatile.

Does it have to be one or the other as you would wear the shoe or the sandal to create totally different looks. How about a gold oxford like Diana wore:

I have pair of blue jeweled sandals. I treat them as casual, every day shoes and wear them with absolutely everything, so I vote sandals.

The sandals would probably be more versatile because they would look better with skirts or dresses in addition to shorts, crops or pants. If I could only get one, I'd choose the sandals. But they are completely different styles, and for that reason they are hard to compare. Both would be great for different outfits.

If you live in a hot summer weather area, the sandals would seem the best choice.

I love them and get a lot of use out of them. I thought I'd not wear them much due to all the jewels, but I've found them to be extremely versatile. Should they fall apart I'd get another pair. I like them that much.

I agree with others that these are apples and oranges :). The boat shoe offers more coverage, more prep, more walkability, more androgyny. The sandal offers more daintiness, more glam, more transitioning-into-evening ability.

You need both! The boat shoes will be too hot once spring passes (unless you're only going to wear them in the A/C).

They are so different! I need the topsiders for kickin' it on the playground and on the soccer field. I like the open sandals but wearing them to the mulch covered playground or grassy field is not an option. How would you wear them? I got mine at the Annapolis Rack with Janet. I don't really understand how/why they are so much cheaper there than at the regular Nordstrom's.
