WIWx2: one saturated/dark and one sort of pastel

Here are my WIWs from yesterday and today. The weather finally became sunny so I'm taking a break from boots!

1-2: WIW 05.11.12 - a typical saturated/dark color palette for me. The asymmetrical mustard top is handknit, as is the little scarf. I felt like the proportions here might have been a little off, especially without the jacket, but a friend complimented me on this outfit so it may just be in my head. Still, I think it might be better with bootcuts.

3-4: WIW 05.12.12 (although I only wore this for like an hour for an oh-so-exciting trip to the grocery store, so I may repeat it for work later this week) - this is about as pastel as I go. When I asked about what to pair this skirt with a while ago, several of you suggested olive, so here it is with my olive silk blouse. The skirt is actually a purple/white check pattern, and was originally a dress that I chopped up. It has pockets, so of course I am being "disrespectful" and posing with my hands in pockets! I'm also breaking in my new gold Arlettas - they are very distressed and RATE, which i like but they are definitely not for Team Polished.

I love your new metallic Arletta oxfords! Very fun and funky, and great for warmer weather.

The yellow sweater looks great, especially with the leather jacket (I like the pairing of yellow and brown in this outfit).

Love the gold oxords but my heart has been won by your first outfit. The rich mustrd yellow of the sweater with the bron leather & those cute red shoes. The proportions look fine to me.

Thanks, everyone! I think it's pretty funny that several of you mentioned my sewing skills... I'm actually pretty bad at sewing and don't own a sewing machine. I can do basic alterations (hems, buttons, etc) but that's about it. Anything more serious requires either my mom or a tailor. The skirt was pretty easy actually - it used to be a dress with just a top part above the current waistband; all the seams were already there so I just had to remove the top and re-do the top hem (by hand). The only slightly tricky bit was cutting down and resecuring the top of the zipper.

The proportions in #1 and #2 look great to my eye, Diana. With and without the jacket. A great look!

But the second outfit steals the show - Just. So. Diana. Always makes me smile. You look precocious with your hands in your pockets! The outfit is totally kicked up a notch with the footwear. LOVE!

For the record! I am *so* on Team Polished, but I would wear those gold oxfords. They are pretty somehow and I think that's why I like them. I do wear the odd distressed thing, and scrunch is my middle name.

Both are great outfits and so true to your unique style. The oxfords look soft and pretty to me, so RATE in that way not the hard-edged way.

Anna, the gold is VERY distressed, and unevenly on the two shoes. I rather like it, but I think it would bother a lot of people.

I think the original hem actually IS asymmetrical because of the leaf panel, but mine is more pronounced because the yarn I used was super drapey and I changed the ribbing at the bottom to garter stitch.

Diana, you're the best!!! Thank you! Yes, I'm on Ravelry and have been looking for something fun to knit and to wear. I'm always afraid that the things I am capable of knitting are beyond my skill level (which is why I quit sewing) but the only way to get better is to try, right? I'm off to Ravelry...

Super duper love 1. The colors are so good on you and the shape of the top is just right. I would love it even more with bootcuts, but it looks good like this.
