haha, this thread is hilarious. Angie, you have made my life complete with that title, you have no idea

Heh, Angie, I have wanted to be a knight since I was about 6 years old

ETA: Actually, upon reflection I first wanted to be Aragorn (my dad read us The Lord of the Rings as bedtime story starting whe we were 5).

But yes, a knight after that.

I don't think of myself as UWP. Rae named my style "architextural" and I'm sticking to it. I can put modifiers in front of it - edgy, urban, ironic - but I love that word.

Dana, Architexturix would be the feminine Latin ending for a noun form

I love this thread! I am definitely RATE but I would not say I qualify as UWP. But I do have some gunmetal booties with studs that I think of as my UWP booties every time I wear them.

Okay, Ceit, you forced me to post this picture, which I took for a friend. Taken very recently. This item predates my child... In fact, he was the guest of honor at my baby shower!

I can't decide if I want him or want to be him.

Ok, I need to find tomorrow a photo of my Hallowe'en costume AS Aragorn and I have the same problem. We can share though, I like you that much.

This thread is great. Can we do some others on other style families? I would really be interested in the discussion that springs up!

For sure! You have the perfect boots for a Strider costume!

I could tear him down the middle and send you half but that would be a bit drastic.

"I can't decide if I want him or want to be him."

That is my problem as well... you remember manspiration month.

Hmm, reading this thread I realized that's I'm very UWP-friendly. I bet I comment disproportionately on UWP-related threads because I have a sugar eye (to use another Una-phrase) for UWP items. I think my style veers more modern classic, and this is making me wonder if I need to consciously try to incorporate some more UWP to see how it feels. I did buy my first moto jacket, and have discovered my love of boots this last year! My new handbag has some very discreet studs. What should my next accent be?

Earthy Urban Chic... I think Angie has correctly analyzed my inner conflict!

"Stand back while I kick down this door with my somewhat tailored boot (with sensible heel). But let's knock first ... it's only fair."

The UWP style does not resonate with me personally. I can appreciate it on others but have no desire to move that direction myself. I'm also not Team RATE but would rather look polished. I think distressed jeans with holes would look weird on a woman my age too.
Perhaps the tough look goes best with a more urban environment than my prairie suburb.

Nadya, a rugged belt!

Tarzy, LOL!

Tara, you are a laugh!
This is a hilarious thread - I wonder what strangers to this forum think of it...such a shower of titles and regalia!
UWP style is great and I admire Una, Rae, Ceit and other princesses on the forum but I am afraid from afar. I am definitely not cool enough for this!
However it is interesting that I always wanted to be like male heroes from my favorite childhood books rather than girls. My favorite was Athos from 'Three Musketeers': brave, refined, noble and deadly elegant!

I'm not a UWP, though I have a few things in my closet that match this style (my Miss Sixty Moto jacket, especially). I guess i just don't do rugged (well, an urban rugged, as opposed to a country rugged), which is a big part of this style, I think.

I do admire the style on our urban warrior princesses, though! And Suburban lieutenant duchess is just hilarious.

I think I'm going to join:
Cocolion in calling my self bi-coastal urban (BCU)
And
Tarzy in calling myself earthy urban chic (I'd totally want to kick the door down, but would have the same conflict)

Angie, to answer your question - I'm not UWP myself (except in the rare moments when I am kicking down doors), but I am UWP-friendly and I have a lot of UWP friends...and sometimes, I try to pass (see pics) but fail

Terrific thread - so much fun!

Such a fun read.

I love the UWP look but unfortunately my wardrobe is sorely lacking those elements

I think I'm an Urban Warrior Clown Princess. I have a wide streak of whimsy.

Nope, not at all. I don't think I have a three word descriptor. Though I thought I had a moment of genius when I put myself on Team Hatsheput on the Team Grecian versus Team Egyptian.

I am not a UWP in any way, shape or form. But I am loving this thread and laughing too much before bed. ( All the adrenalin will keep me up ! )

With that said, I am not into the Princess thing so much. After becoming a Downton Abbey fan, maybe I want to be an androgynous damsel-my-lady type ( though not in distress). I am definitely RATE. ( You just have to look at my hair to know that. ) Maybe I want to be a lord with a dressing gown......actually, I just want to dress like Kellygirl. : )

Oh my goodness - this has been a fun read! In answer to your question Angie - I do have a bit of UWP in me - and at our YLF Shoptoberfest I found myself hanging around in the stores with Una and Rae because I was drawn to a lot of the same things that they were. However, I practically get the hives when I try military looking items - its a psychological "thing" I'm sure - and a lot of times hardware just feels too heavy for me. So . . . I'm definitely not a full-on UWP. I like RATE hairstyles, distressed leather, androgynous styles - but I also love smooth and sleek hairstyles and feminine clothing items and shoes, as well as touches of vintage or whimsy. UWPs are definitely in my family tree - perhaps a first cousin twice removed?

This thread is all kinds of awesome! I also want a three word royalty title, but I'm not sure what it would be. I'm not sure I relate to "Princess" so much, but I'm not so bold as to dub myself Queen of a style.

I definitely incorporate a lot of elements of UWP style, but somehow I seem to only straddle the style, not fully embrace or embody it. Like Denise, I'm UWP friendly. I'm always keeping Angie's "sophisticated" terminology (also echoed by my fashionably astute hubs) in mind, and there's the rock'n'roll thing going on too, so....what would we call that?

Raising my hand up, up, up! I love your descriptor "Neat UWP." That is SO me. I like things neat and tidy after all. Although, if I were to nitpick, I think I fall more into the "Knight" category since I like clothes with a slightly masculine vibe. I can work with either title--I'm just happy to have found my tribe!

I am loving this thread. So many great descriptors--so hilarious!

Thanks for starting this, Angie!

Only sometimes by virtue of my overall casual lifestyle.
Often when wearing dresses and the like I just feel too dressed up, so I love biker-styled jackets for their structure but casual feel. Jeans are also more comfortable, and black bags more practical.

This is such a delightful thread!

I love to admire and salute our UWPs, but that's not me.

At best, it's a shadow style --- what I would be if I wasn't... whatever I am!

But even then, I love bohemian-folksy-artsy elements too much to be truly urban. Polish and hence princess lie in the opposite direction from mine. I'm TOO RATE to be a warrior and am simply far too lethargic to kick ass! :-p

Though I adore sci-fi and fantasy elements, as well as regal jewellery (silver please), I've never successfully carried that into my everyday attire consistently. (I'd like to, hence the shadow style... but I just don't see how to make it work in a practical way, yet.) At best, I'm more artsy eco-warrior, though I could stretch to steampunk...

I think climate is a mitigating factor as well as personal style preference. It's hard to do hardware and boiled leather in hot, humid tropical climes!

I'm afraid I may be schizophrenic-a warrior attitude on the inside, but get me in a dress & I'm looking for girlie shoes and a little bling. I have no idea how to describe my look in my everyday casual wear. Something to ponder.

UWP - no, not me, even a little bit!!

Janet, you are welcome to join the ranks of the Urban Warrior Queen. With Angie's permission (since she bestowed the title on me) and Elizabeth's consent as a co-regent, I'd like to make my first proclamation that sophistication is absolutely necessary for the UWQ. After all, a queen has more gravitas than those carefree princesses. Cleavage maybe, but upper thighs (even if toned) are NOT regal. Studs and zippers of course, but not in inappropriate locations. RATE is fine, but one must remember that "rough" and "distressed" should always be adjectives used for clothing not personal appearance.

It is our job--nay, our duty--to make the UWPs yearn to become UWQs; we can only accomplish this by demonstrating how wonderfully this style can transcend time and space.

I've absolutely co-opted the urban warrior part. I don't have anything princess or ladylike going on though. I'm way to stompy for that.

It's been a great descriptor. I do have a bit of bohemian going one as well, at least in warmer weather. The issue is that I don't quite see bohemian quite the way everyone else seems too. I'm not hippie at all. I see it more as the arty eclectic's disreputable sister.
