It’s getting chilly in Deutschland! My son can’t wear his puffy in class, so he’s looking for great big cozy warm sweaters and sweatshirts. His birthday is coming up too, so the budget is a bit more generous than usual. My mind went to this, which I think JAileen posted last winter. Jack Wolfskin Sutherland Flex https://www.globetrotter.de/ja.....k-1208284/ It’s a jacket, so he’d be fine with the zipper. Well-known company. Not sure how warm it’d be.

Jack Wolfskin spacer sweatshirt https://www.jack-wolfskin.de/3.....15004.html He chose and has worn some bright red this fall—wonder if he’s ready for this much of it.

I just asked him if he’d like the last two (blue Freilufts hoodie & red Jack Wolfskin). They are the least expensive on the list. Not as birthday presents—kid needs more than one sweater, and he’s cold now.

Check out Gap heavyweigh hoodies. Uniqlo also has some options. Jack Wolfskin is also very good.

re the 1st sweater --Patagonia....i'd actaully look for that one on the secondardy, ie used, market....that brand is very into that, and its actaully part of the brands appeal...if you follow the link you can actually buy 2nd hand right from them, or you can try ebay etc....

I am curious is there a reason why you are looking only into a gear brands? Is he into a fashion or he prefers for you to buy things for him?

Adela, those are great suggestions, thanks! Familiar names, but I hadn't thought to look there.

Anchie, he needs something *warm*. I started with the one JAileen had posted, googled it to find shops that carry it here, and this outfitter (which is familiar to me) came up in the search. In other words, there is no good reason, and I should check out Uniqlo, those Gap shirts Adela suggested, and other non-gear tops you all suggest. He likes to look casual, but not like Mr Rugged Woodsman (that's his cousin with the beard, lol). His favorite brand is Hollister. They don't have many sweaters/sweatshirts as warm as he needs, but that's the look he likes.

Kkards, I had not heard of that, thanks! I'll probably use it for "non-birthday" sweaters for him, and will pass it along to RW cousin, who happens to also like thrifting (but currently lives in a small town).

Patagonia makes the better sweater in a hoodie. It’s not exactly the same, though. It has stretch side panels.

This might not be a birthday present afterall--I currently have tabs open with shopping baskets at Globetrotter, the Gap, Hollister, Uniqlo and H&M. Total of 16 sweaters/sweatshirts. He only needs a quarter of that, but it's hard to tell which will be warm enough, so I'll have him pick half of these to order and try on at home--he is not a fan of B&M fitting rooms! Then I'll have a bunch to return.

He will still get one surprise sweatshirt for his birthday--my sister is getting him one with one of Kawhi Leonard's phrases on it.

Adela, I'm happy to be back in a 4-season climate and am wearing tights with sweater skirts and the like. We've spent the last half of his life in Florida, spent just a few days up North every year. He likes the cooler weather, but we have no idea how to dress him for it.

ETA: He picked 4, from Hollister and Uniqlo. So glad for the YFL Forum, I am!

RL, you don't know the half of it!

The shorts in these posts are what he wore 1st - 9th grade (see https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....who-we-are and https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....ay-getaway ), until he wanted a change and Jenn and other YLFers suggested the sweatpants he's lived in for 2 years. Adding the blackberry color of this sweatshirt to his navy & grey palette was a big deal, as were the linen pants and shirt for his cousin's wedding and brunch at his grandparents' club.

Today he picked this layering top https://www.uniqlo.com/de/de/p.....e-419192CO a much brighter color than he's worn for years, as well as deeper red burgundy, navy, and a pale, pale blue--another shade he hasn't worn since middle school. And he's contemplating pants that aren't sweatpants! When we order them, I expect we will also need to get another sweater or two--he ordered some that will be really warm, some that won't be. I'm happy to see him expand, but he'll still need another warm sweater or two. I should find some that aren't so rugged/gearish.

It sounds so simple, I know, a high school kid adding color and fabrics to his wardrobe, but I'm so happy I am beside myself. He's changing up other stuff too.
