Floral loafers & trying some F/W must-haves

I've been seeing floral footwear and thinking about it this fall, as I pointed out here last month. Yesterday I bought a pair, and I'm debating whether to keep them. I really like them, but I'm questioning whether they will work with my wardrobe or my style.

Today I'm trying them out with Angie's fall/winter 2017 must-haves in mind: I was going for "maximal" with the plaid shirt and floral shoes, plus some new red lipstick I got recently. However, the floral on the shoes is SO subtle I think this outfit hardly looks maximal. Also I am wearing full-length jeans--rolled up in photo 1 and unrolled in photo 2.

I'm eager to hear what you all think about the loafers for me. Some of you may know I have a hard time wearing loafers. If these were oxfords, there would be no question about them for me, period. But when I get loafers, I often do not wear them as much as I think I'm going to. I could use some ideas of how to wear them, while still looking authentically me. This particular outfit feels a bit preppy for me. But then both "plaid" and "shirt" are two things I rarely wear, also. So maybe too many unusual-for-me yet very conventional pieces here??

The outfit: dark skinny jeans (Mother, the Looker high rise, in Coffee Tea or Me), blue plaid shirt (Treasure & Bond), long blue linen cardigan (Halogen), floral loafers (Ron White).

Do you have a find for the loafers? I unfortunately can't make out any detail at all on my screen. But in terms of the outfit - and I had to laugh and " shirt, and plaid" : I'm the same - I quite like it! It doesn't give a maximal vibe (maybe because I can't make out the shoes) but rather a nice, casual outfit. Jeans up or down don't make much difference to me - both look fine. I wore jeans and new loafers yesterday ( I'm the opposite in that I can't do oxfords well without feeling like I'm wearing golf shoes) and ended up cuffing my jeans back up to ankle length. Some habits die hard - plus I like showing my shoes

I like this outfit and the proportions on you. Personally, I tend towards loafers and can't quite make myself wear oxfords. Maybe there's a perceived ease to loafers that oxford do not share (IMO)? Overall, I do not see this outfit as maximal--the shoes are pretty subtle, the plaid is classic, and the cardi and jeans provide a lot of solid in-between.

Love this whole outfit -- great colours. I too prefer the jeans cuffed.

I think there's definitely a Team Oxford and a Team Loafer. I've always been Team Oxford. I found loafers heinously ugly until pretty recently, well after they'd started trending. It may be because, growing up, I only ever saw them worn in not-at-all-ironic High Prep stylings. New England...

Also, I've yet to find a pair of loafers that fit my feet -- if the toe box is wide enough, the heels are too loose. Laces are useful.

Those loafers are gorgeous (me wants 'em) and your outfit looks stylishly cozy/comfy. I like the subtle pattern mixing, you also look pretty in the grey.
I am like you, I wear my oxfords easily but all 4 of my loafers, I struggle with styling and feeling comfortable in. FWIW, I like how you styled these a lot.

I think it's a great outfit but also I understand how the plaid might feel a little preppy (it does on me too but I still enjoy wearing it).

With Loafers and Oxfords I have a real preference to seeing a little of the ankle. It's just a personal preference, so I do prefer the look withe the jeans cuffed. I do love this loafer, the chunky sole and the dark pattern but I am not a loafer girl, give me an oxford any day Despite the current loafer trend, to my eye they do not always look modern - to me - (that may or may not be important) the showing of a bit of ankle moderns the look up for me. Given what you have shared about loafers and your love of Oxfords, should you be considering a floral Oxford?? BTW I do love the outfit xx

Deborah, thanks for your thoughts. I was browsing through loafer looks online today, and the ones I liked best did show a bit of ankle. This floral really spoke to me, and what you suggested has crossed my mind--to hold out for an oxford.

I really like the loafers for you and think they'd work well in your wardrobe. They seem "you".

I think the cardi-plaid shirt combo is a little preppy, or something like that. At any rate, maybe less "you". I would expect something more arty. Perhaps a jacket instead of the cardigan?

I suppose one could call it juxtaposition, but my eye has a hard time combining the plaid shirt with a long cardigan. I always picture plaid shirts with a structured jacket or raincoat. The shirt looks fabulous on you, however, but it's quite a departure from your other WIW posts and your Finds. These particular loafers seem like less of a departure since they are dark and a floral. Now, if they were shiny brown penny loafers I would probably have a heart attack.

I'm glad you posted. I bought the Munro floral loafers but haven't worn them except around the house. I realize I don't have an outfit figured out to wear with them--I just loved them and bought them. I'm not sure what they will look good with.

I like the loafers a lot, and don't mind a more subtle, less maximal combination myself. I think you look great in this! I'm also starting to feel the uncuffed/unrolled jeans look -- maybe because it's fall or maybe just ready for a change.

I like loafers and oxfords, but it's hard to find loafers that don't fall off my heels because my feet are a little narrow. Oxfords are an easier fit.

I love your outfit and the shoes, are they comfortable? Maybe I have to check them out, too, but I don’t need shoes right now... I love mocs because of the ease of the on-off part. I hope you will find them useful for your wardrobe and that you will reach for them often. I don’t see why they would not work for your style. However, if you find that you will not reach for them, maybe go for the Hispanitas oxfords?

I love the loafers for you (if they are comfortable). The pattern is so subtle I can't see it in your pictures, but that makes it easier to wear with a little pop of interest for those paying attention (I would notice if we met!). I think they work for your style while evolving it subtly. And your hair if fabulous!

Love the loafers! I’d love to try them. Not maximal, but Moody Interest.
I find I need to juxtapose more with loafers. Usually with the rest of the styling as more feminine. Blouse rather than shirt, or a soft knit.

MsMaven, right. It's easy to choose a pair of floral shoes because they are pretty, and then . . . what to wear them with??

Thanks, Janet. You've worn loafers (black platforms, right?) and they looked really cool, so you gave me hope that they could go beyond a modern classic look.

Joyce, and Shevia, yes the loafers are comfortable. They are cushy and have good arch support, and I think they fit well. That said, I do find oxfords more secure feeling on the foot.

Shevia, yes, the floral print is so dark, it's hard to see till you get up close. I like that about it.

I like this outfit very much and your new loafers work beautifully with your jeans. I have the same jeans and love them because they are so comfortable. I am on team oxford too, I find loafers harder to fit.

You look wonderful. I love this outfit ... so cosy. It may just me but the floral loafers are so subtle that you should easily be able in incorporate them into your wardrobe. Going back to read what others thought.

I think this looks great, love the loafers. But I am in the loafer-over-oxford camp so am biased. I am drawn to long cardigans like yours this fall too.

I love the idea of floral loafers for you and like what I see here, although admittedly, that is not much where pattern is concerned. I also love the colour of the cardigan on you. Very flattering. I like the jeans both ways -- for me it would depend on the weather.

I like both loafers and oxfords but don't wear either. Loafers because they don't stay on my foot, and oxfords mainly due to weather -- the season is so short that I make do with sneakers, though if I worked in an office I would surely get a pair.

I really like this look, although it does not come across as maximal to me. The subtle floral of the loafers is great. You should keep them. You wear the long cardi with style!
