Floral every day & in every possible way

I just luurve the floral trend. I am surprised it didn't get more love in some of the recent posts about trends we like/dislike. And wow, embroidery is so polarising. Who knew?

I like graphic black and white florals, dark florals and black based florals that have strong white accents. (And embroidery too!)

Alas, I have since discovered that the floral dress in pic 6 has a rip in the, er, seat area. I am not sure how it happened, but it's really shredded. Fortunately, because I thought the dress was a tad too short for me, I was wearing it with tube skirt underneath to lengthen it. So I was spared any wardrobe malfunction embarrassment.

I am going to floral on and turn the dress into a top, which I plan to wear matchy-matchy style with my floral Moto jacket in Finds when the weather is cool enough.

Brooklyn, you look absolutely beautiful in your moody florals. Love every outfit here. It's a shame about the dress but a relief you can salvage it to wear anyway.

I think the reasons for my own hesitation about florals may be twofold: they are often "sweeter" in tone than the ones you prefer and wear so well (i.e. it can be difficult to find one that is not a bit twee) -- and those that are not, are often based on black, which for me is a bit harder to wear (although less so now with grey hair, I think). Another issue is scale -- they are often either too big or too small on 5'4" me. Finally, in tops, I simply tire of any print that is not a stripe or a check after a season or two of wear. You solve that by wearing most of your florals on the bottom, which is a really great strategy.

Having listed all my gripes, let me just add that one of my favourite dresses ever was a Betsy Johnson moody floral on black which I kept and wore for 10 years.

Sooo fab on you. I love florals too, confining mine to shoes, some embroidery on jeans and smaller amounts like that. Otherwise, being larger than you, I look like a wallpapered wall.

I was in a floral drought for quite a good while, but I recently got captivated by a Japanese floral print Joie silk blouse that I just had to have! So the long drought has finally ended.

I have always liked florals too. And I'm snapping up embroidered pieces where possible too. You look amazing. Love all, and 4 is my personal fave for its colors.

You have a lovely floral collection. I have a hard time finding floral patterns that I like and in colors that I like. Much the same problems as Suz expressed so well. Yours look modern, not like something your grandmother would have worn. This may be the year to stock up.

You look wonderful in these! I can't pick a favorite. For me, I like a floral if I like that particular print. So I like some but not all. I do like the embroidered trend. Last year I bought a couple tops with embroidery and love them.

What I want to know about is your beautiful Rebecca Minkoff bag. I'm considering one, and it has those long pulls. Do they ever annoy you?

I'm now coming back to add that my "florals" might be toiles. I tend not to tire of them in the same way. Hmmm.

Not Brooklyn, but I own two Minkoff bags now, JAileen. I adore the pulls on my burgundy bag. You can't see them in this photo but they are similar to the ones on Brooklyn's satchel but a bit simpler, on both sides where there are also zippers. Adore! I literally stroke them, they are so soft. They are removable also if one wishes. The ones on my new off-white bag are not removable but you can switch them both to one side, put one on each side, or tuck them inside the bag. The only trouble is they "shed" a bit! However, I am amazed at home much I enjoy this little bit of texture.

Suz, thanks for responding. I'm considering a silver RM bag. It's described as a camera bag, but it looks like a satchel. It has a strap to wear crossbody, of course. In my vacation pictures, I noticed crossbody doesn't look good on me. My shirts tend to rumple up.

I love a dark,"moody" floral like you are wearing here - and boy do you wear it well. I love your wardrobe - I know I am always saying that. Just so envious that you can wear what you do.

Most of my floral dislike is for bright florals, ditsy patterns, and embroidery. Dark patterns and gothic black/whites are great though!

Love many a floral, and love ALL these on you! Very sophisticated mixes. Am currently wondering why I don't have a floral pencil skirt, duh.

So sorry about the tear -- that's an unusual print! -- but glad you're able to salvage it via tailoring to a top.

I'm glad that vintage-inspired florals are having a moment along with the usual ditsy ones. I do have several of the former and am having to try really really hard not to duplicate. Like, no...I don't need 2 larger-scale dark floral tunics hahaha.

I have 2 floral items currently at the tailor...who's overdue (usual, but he's excellent) and admit one's a ditsy print I couldn't resist.

Always Trying, this Lucky top (Floral Vines) -- currently on significant sale at Macy's, Lucky, etc -- arrived yesterday and I think it's gorgeous on both the R and W models. But then I think everyone who's drawn to florals should wear them!

I agree with Suz about florals and size-- I'm 5'2" and they tend to look cutesy or like something my mom would wear. The way you're wearing them looks amazing-- modern and a little edgy but lady like. Just love it and maybe I'll give floral skirts a try

I also love your florals...and I'm in love with floral fabrics, too. I really have to be careful about the background color and the scale of the florals, though, or I can get overwhelmed by them as I am quite short. You are spot-on with knowing just the right colors and scale of your florals and I am very impressed with your choices. Brava!

Brooklyn, i love all of these outfits! I feel like you and I are style sisters. I have a more casual life, and I don't have your lovely lean frame, but I see many similarities in how we like to dress. I love moody florals and have always enjoyed them. It occurs to me that maybe I should seek out more and stock up now.

Lucky that you were wearing a skirt under the dress!

The dress is my favourite outfit and I am sad that it has a tear. I don't even think some strategic embroidered patches will save it (patch placement not ideal).

You look great in your uniform of skirts and sandal booties. A real signature.
