First Quarter 2014 Copycat Recap

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I do not have an original bone in my body! Today is Day 90 of 2014, and so far this year I have worn a copycat outfit at least 42 times! And yes, all but No 21 were actually worn out of the house (would have worn that one out, too, but my plans changed unexpectedly that day!).

I've decided my style is not only Business Bombshell, but Creative Copycat!

My favorites are 3, 7, 14, 28, 35, and 41. The only one I felt like was a total bust was 29, and really it looked better in person than it does in the photo.

I am unrepentant and plan to keep copying because it is super fun, it keeps my juices flowing, and it makes me try things I'd never think of on my own!

Anybody care to join me in the second quarter?

I see you as the most accomplished user of Pinterest ever. I keep pinning stuff and hardly ever use it for anything.
You are also proficient at incorporating Angie's formulas.

Creative Genius Copycat! These make me smile and do show how much fun you have with fashion. So glad to hear that you won't be giving it up.

I also am guilty of pinning outfits but not recreating them. You need to teach Pinterest Copycat 101.

I like too many of these to list. I love the way you are able to mix 3 or more colors with ease. I always have trouble so I tend to stick with 2 colors unless it's black, white, and a third. Will be watching for inspiration.

Liz A, that's one of the reasons I love copying. I mix three or more colors with ease because I''m copying somebody who already did it! LOL I wouldn't have thought of half of those combinations on my own!

Mary, I would love to join you, but like the others, I don't know how to use Pinterest or Polyvore this way. Or maybe I lack the pieces that would make so many copies possible. I have been trying to do Angie's ensembles and have managed to do most of them this year. But even there, I can't do some -- usually because I don't have a colour or an item in my closet.

How do you find all the outfits you want to copy? I see outfits and ensembles that I like, but I don't actually imagine wearing them. Now there's a strange thing. Hmmm.

I think it would be good discipline for me to try this. But I need lessons!

As for your outfits, they are incredible! Seeing them all together like this is even more inspiring than on a daily basis. It's really hard to pick favourites.

Rae, as you know that has been my shopping strategy! It has its drawbacks but it does come in handy when copying! LOL

Suz, recently I've been concentrating on pinning outfits that I think I can come close to duplicating -- in spirit if not literally. Sometimes, for example, I'll do a search for "cobalt blazer outfits" or "white skirt outfits." Or sometimes I'll just go to my favorite blogs and leaf through and paste the ones I think would work for me. And at this point Pinterest knows me pretty well so the looks that pop up on my feed are likely to be things I'm able to use.

Basically, I guess my first piece of advice is look at a lot of outfits and keep your eyes peeled for that one piece that is similar to something in your closet in some way. Maybe shape, maybe color, maybe pattern. And then go from there. (Note that in my case I am often all about the colors but the shapes and textures and even which-color-on-which-piece often gets modified.)

Suz, I was thinking the same thing about the limitation of my wardrobe colors. However, what about copying the silhouette or the vibe of the outfit? I think I might give that a go.

Fantastic! I never thought of being a creative copycat -- and I have trouble putting things together. I don't have enough clothes to do it for a month but I can try it a few times.

These outfits are all fabulous and you look gorgeous in them! My wardrobe is still too limited, especially by color, to pull this off.

These are all fantastic! I would love to start doing this, but I do run into that pesky mental block when I don't have something super similar in my closet. I will give it a shot though. Must start pinning some summer outfits...79 degrees here today. Yuck, yuck, yuck. What happened to Spring?

MaryK, I use Pinterest the same way to get ideas for more inspired color combos and do searches for specific pieces. You really can't beat Pinterest for adding versatility into your wardrobe and increasing the wearability of items.

What a visual treat! I use Pinterest the same way you do. 'Chambray shirt style' and 'white jeans style' and 'leopard skirt style' resulted in some good hauls! Haven't been able to post WIW recently, but I'll pick up your challenge!
