So I have been in a bit of a style funk lately. There is just too much going on personally, locally and globally. Anyway, in an attempt to go from funk to fun, and as a complete distraction from everything else that I cannot control, I have decided to try out a new style word: EXTRA.
This is inspired by a lot of things - among them Brooklyn and Tanya's themes, Angie's hair change, and a recent dive into the fashion and style of Simone Rocha. To make a long story short, I noticed that Rocha does something that resonates with me - she manages to make a lot of traditionally feminine elements and style them in a way that does not speak to traditionally feminine roles but rather, at least to me, points to a way of dressing that is creative and independent without referring to traditionally masculine pieces. Anyway, something just clicked and I suddenly understood that my penchant for collecting pearls and ruffles could be integrated with my other pieces.
So this week I have challenged myself to wear at least one EXTRA piece every day. I am taking it slowly, but here is where I am so far:
1. I have lots of beads but rarely wear them. Here I am wearing earrings AND pearls!
2. Wearing full suit (this is from the early 2000s in my estimation) and big silver necklace and earrings! (sorry for the weird camera angle, I am in a crowded thrift shop).
3. Silver shoes, white bag, earrings and more seed beads! (trying a different mirror, again a weird angle).
Anyway, what do you think - too much or too little? Anyone want to join me in being a bit extra?
