Nice blouses , Janet ! I can see you in either . I’m not a shirt person myself but love those for you .

Looking amazing as always Jenava! Love those rich tones under natural light.

Yes Angie, I have the shorter version of that dress in a pattern of warm and cooler mid tones (very hard to pin down or describe and sold out online but very me!). Love that you found your version!

Yay for a forum where all women can wear all styles so fashionably!

I'm happy with the earth tones!
When I was at the outlets I saw a Lot of orange, green, navy, and hot pink.

Of course, I love my earth tones and always will. TBH, I want to see some cooler, jewel tones in the mix. It just makes things more interesting and there's something for everyone. Hah! I'm with LJP and Janet on purple. I bought a lavender Radley London bag and a purple dress last summer

For those who want more purple in their wardrobes - I hope it finds you! Plenty of other jewel tones around though, like teal, emerald, and cobalt.

Jenava, the Effortless Pants are KILLER on you! Very flattering. Thanks for posting

Jules, YAY! Fun to be dress twinsies with you. It's an AWESOME cut dress! Try the pants too. Nodding along to your wise words.

Jenn, appreciate the thoughtful comment!

I don’t think earth tones have been going strong for 6 or 7 years. When I went to NY in Summer of 2018 they were nowhere to be seen. It was all cool colours, just like home. Earth colours started showing up here in 2019. As a trickle first, now a deluge. I think the usual cycle of a colour trend is 5-10 years.

Here grey, black, white, blue and other cool colours dominated for over 10 years, so I’m still finding earth tones “fresh”. And they suit me, which is a nice change. Blue is my worst colour and it’s still the most available colour at retail. (And it seems it always will be.) I’d also like to see more jewel colours, like teal, dark red, emerald, amethyst.

Brooklyn, fab thoughts! Yes, blue seems to be as popular as black these days.

Earth tones started emerging as an on trend fringe fashion neutral in about 2014. I got my cognac Prada jodhpur boots then, so that's how I remember it! Earth tones weren't a year round four-season-palette until a few years years later - you are dead right! That started happening just before the pandemic. I did a lot of shopping with clients in 2019, and those who love earth tones were elated to see it make a grand entrance into Spring and Summer collections. Here in the US, that is

I hope earth tones find you forever! You were made to wear them. I so get that they still feel fresh to you!

Your new pieces are gorgeous and perfect for you, Angie. I can't wait to see how you wear them, especially that fun dress.

On the Earth tones, I echo Janet's feelings. I have more than dabbled with them, despite them not working so well next to my skin. A piece here and there, and I have amassed a nice mini collection since 2017. This pretty much culminated past Fall, when I did a whole theme that was heavily based on earth tones, Dark/Light Academia. I have reached my saturation point and don't want any more, with one semi-exception below. I will continue to wear what I have, mostly remixed with blues/other cool colors, which is my preferred way of wearing them. I would like to see half of earth tones at retail replaced with navy and grays, and that way everyone can find their preferred neutrals, warm or cool. I would also like to see more jewel tones. Strangely, I have had good luck with purples, but less so with the right teals. I would still like more teal.

I am super excited about the cargo pants, especially wider ones in full length. I have already gotten a subtle pale blue pair, and thought I'd like one more, but realizing that I'd actually like two more :-). I'd like a fancy pair in black satin for evenings, and super casual twill pair in my version of khaki/beige, which would be some kind of taupe/mushroom color. That is my one semi-exception from no more earth tones.

Tanya, for someone who seldom wears earth tones - you do with panache!

I'm with on there being the right neutrals available all the time, for everyone!

I tried these yesterday. LOTS of colours. Try them! They weren't my thing. The pants I got were better suited to my style - but the rise is high, and you might like them.

I would like to see and own more warm earth tones. It seems that they are so cool toned lately. I want to wear earth tones with coral, orange, citron green, and butter. I am done with grey and some brown earth tones. Given up on olive and ivory. I really would like to the demise of cropped pants or a return to long pants...something for everyone.

Thank you, Angie! Those pants are great, but I am thinking of a pair that is wider at the bottom, too. Basically looking for a more affordable version of these in Finds.

I will happily take all the earthtones, but I find myself drawn to deeper and more colorful bits lately. I am adding slowly and happily mixing everything together. Chocolate brown with all shades of blue… every green thing… combining warm reds and oranges…

I think I am just sick of neutrals The most popular combo in my area (and social media) is black, white, and taupe.

You know, it's funny - despite all this talk about earth tones, I *still* can't seem to find a chocolate cotton top with 3/4 length sleeves. At least, not one that's a deep & warm enough colour with a not too low neckline...

I'm also still on the hunt for *lightweight* cargo joggers *without* a drawstring (i.e. elasticated waistband). I've toyed with adding a maxi cargo skirt in a not stiff fabric, but don't know whether that will soon become passé...

Maybe once March is well underway I'll have more luck with these items?

Back here to hopefully soften my strong opinion on pleated pants . Years of sewing and tailoring and fitting / refining patterns has made me a stickler for how pleats should lay / lie and fit . It’s an outdated view , and I realize that, and the popularity of that pant proves it . That’s said , you’ll never catch me in a pair

I've never been into the earth-tones. It's either moody greys/blacks or brights for me. Ok - khaki/olive holds a special place in my fashion heart.

Cargo pants - love them! Back (way back) in the day I wore carpenter pants. I'm always happy when cargoes cycle around again!

I never tire of earth tones, so I am always happy to see them. However, in my F/W wardrobe, I do have quite a large capsule of plum-colored items across all categories, which I enjoy wearing. In the summer, as well as my earth tones, I also wear other colors that don't (or rarely) figure into my F/W wardrobe, like lavender, mid-toned blues, chartreuse and optic white. I wear bright orange across all seasons. It gives me quite a variety.

Pretty new things - love the printed dress!
Not really earth tones' person - could go for oatmeal color ( tops ) and maybe bitter chocolate ( pants ) .

I love Earth tones too... Particularly when they're green and not on fire !!

Oof, I agree with nemosmom that all the most trendy stuff seems to be only in tan/camel, white/cream, or black. I will give up my color when I'm cold and dead, but still, it does make me feel a bit fuddy duddy to not be embracing the 90s minimalism.

Nice additions!

I do like earth tones - but I like to mix them with non earth tones. Navy and terracotta, olive and pink, white and tan.

A couple of years ago, before I grew in my silver natural hair, my hair was copper-ish, and for the first time ever I loved earth tones and acquired quite a few. Surprisingly they still work with my silver hair if saturated enough. I shop 2nd hand mostly so not really fussed what is at retail.

Not sure about cargos, wore them alot in the early 2000's and my body shape tends to look quite masculine in them which I am trying to veer away from.

Lovely dress Angie, but I'm surprised you were able to even get a lime coloured dress at Aritzia, I was there last week and it's still a sea of mostly beige, cream and black offerings. Its just not my colour palette, I'm with others who prefer the cool mid tones.

Tried a few full length cargo styled pants at Simons but they just didn’t feel right on me.

I did manage to buy a really nice pair of baggy/wider leg jeans in a great dark wash at Uniqlo. I love them, I sized down for a more refined and streamlined fit.

Lol Lisa no worries! I do find these types of views about other women’s bodies and clothing to be so dated and tone deaf that I usually just block them out (I don’t care about how people feel about their own bodies, that’s not my business). But your short post to specifically call out a style of pants that women on this forum have already modelled for us got through my self-imposed filter while trying to scroll on by. I actually censor myself on this point a lot, for the record, because I’ve realized some people have deeply held beliefs that are not my problem to shake.
Again, I’m truly grateful for people like Jenava who post their lovely stylish selves and help me figure out how to wear styles I love. As well as Angie’s longtime positive approach and helpful guidance, of course.

Dee, that particular dress actually comes in a ton of colours, especially online (at least it did in wintertime).

Lucky you to find the right things on sale. I wanted wide leg jeans and new navy sneakers and I got both last month but wasn't lucky enough to find them on sale. My next purchase will probably be a white or off white denim jacket. I'm still trying to stick to my plan and buy things on my list although I was tempted, but have resisted so far, by that dress. I love earth tones and hope they stay around.

I’m neutral on earth tones, some I like, some I don’t -but for me the best thing about on line shopping is that you can usually find a color that appeals somewhere, even if it’s not local…..I am all about the cargo! In fact I just ordered these. hoping that they work.

Hmm, I am also not tall and thin, and also find various combinations of wide leg and pleated pants to be the most flattering things to wear. I love it when they are trending and I can stock up. I don’t think it’s appropriate to body shame other women for not being tall and thin, that’s what men do to us, but we certainly don’t need to do it to each other. Please ignore the internalized misogyny that leads some women to make most unfortunate comments, and continue to rock your flowy pants with confidence.

Cat2, I have also come to see this as internalized misogyny. It’s also simply not correct (as a matter of style expertise) - seeing a few people in a limited environment wearing ill-fitting pants, doesn’t make them a bad choice for everyone who doesn’t fit some narrow ideal. And/or, the viewer has some bias they are projecting onto other’s bodies. This is where I draw the line - I truly don’t care what people post about their own preferences for their own bodies.

My comments were out of line . I recognize the inappropriateness of them and sincerely apologize . I have had my looks and body commented on for my entire life . It has done damage I now understand and try to correct . Again , perhaps a forum isn’t the best place for someone with my lack of restraint .

Lisa: I understand the struggle. My father told me that it was a good thing I am smart and can take care of myself because with my legs and derrière I would never get a man. But there comes a point where you have to shut off the unwelcome voices in your head and enjoy your life. We are all unique and have something special to offer.
