Challenge: Donate/sell/ toss 10 items by Sunday

The flip side of my great US Haul? Less room in my closet/ drawers/ life.

By Sunday night (the 19th), I'm going to get rid of 10 items. Or, at least, have them in a bag at the back door, ready to leave the house.

Anyone care to join me?

Oooh, yes! I have a perpetual donation bag going, but I will add to it and my bonus challenge will be to actually get it dropped off (vs. lazily waiting for one of the charities to make their pickup in my neighborhood).

Sounds great to me! Honestly, I'd like to dump 90% of my clothes and start over, but I dont have the money for that! I think I can get 10 out of one drawer.....

Oh no- I couldn't pull anything from my closet currently. I do have bags to be donated already that I need to get out of the house, though.I will try to remember to do that.

Oh my goodness, I am so in. I did one purge before I moved but now my bedroom in my new apartment is in chaos. This will be great incentive to keep up the YLF momentum. Thanks for suggesting, Mac!

I just dropped a bunch of stuff off at consignment store/donation station yesterday. Now I have room to cull out 10 more! I still have a couple boxes of items that I haven't even unpacked yet. They are my next victims!

I've been relentlessly weeding since I moved into this (smaller) house 2 months ago. It's like an onion...I keep finding more I can purge....even when I think I have purged all I can purge! So far I have made almost $300 at the consignment store from selling my culled items.

Last month I donated four huge garbage bags full of stuff...and I may be able to squeeze out 10 more items! In fact I already have a couple in a bag ready to go. I'll complete the cull this weekend. Thanks Mac!

I'm in. I have a bunch of drawers to week out. A friend of mine runs a clothing bank for the homeless, so I always feel good about what I get rid of.

I was home sick yesterday and I sorted out perhaps half of my drawers.....I now have one big trash bag half full of shoes, and 3 other trash bags brimming over with clothing. Some of the clothing I had been hoarding would have fit a 10 yr old...wonder why I held on to them for so long?!

The rest of the drawers will be tackled this week...oh joy...

Oh, Mac, it is just not fair! You have posted pictures of one pair of shoes, sleepers and a dress (unless I've missed something) from your US haul and now you are telling us you do not have room in your closet?!!! When do we get to see the rest!!!!!
As for purging I am doing this all the time and my second bag is filling up right now...we''l see if I can add 10 more this Sunday...

Hw coincidental - I did my seasonal clothing switch and I pulled out about 15 items that I don't want anymore. Including shoes and a couple of bags. I plan on doing a run tomorrow to the Salvation Army. I don't think that I, personally, have another 10 in clothing, but I will clean out my make up bag, and go through my kids' stuff in preparation for Fall and in solidarity with you. I will also see if there is anything in my jewelry box that I just don't want.

Mission accomplished! I just went through all my clothes and found 1 dress, 4 tops, 1 skirt, 1 cardi, 1 bag and 4 pair of shoes that I want to donate. Moreover, I put hubby to work as well. Between the two of us, we filled a large garbage bag.

Unfortunately, we found out that one of his suits had been devoured in by hungry moths. There are a few small holes in the jacket and the pants as well. Can they be saved? Or are they destined for the good will pile?

bella, they can be saved. There are tailors who do reweaving. At least there were several years ago when we had some of my husband's jackets done. I'd try Googling reweaving services for your area.

As to tossing stuff out, I have some items that would find a happy home somewhere else, but my DH wants me to "save" them. I will have to wait until the end of the month, then I will post some photos after my trip.

Ooooh GREAT challenge!

I'm in but it will be "household stuff" rather than clothes! I still have 1 box left in my house from when I moved 12 months ago, and I'm determined to get rid of it this weekend - I know there's plenty in there I won't need - heck the box hasn't been opened in a year - there's probably nothing in there I *need*.

I'm in. I started purging my shoes several days ago and have already taken 8 pairs to my closest thrift store - but there are many more that I could get rid of - plus, clothes - so I don't think 10 will be hard for me at all! It does feel good knowing that other people are doing it this weekend too! I like that!

I need to do my fall clothing swaparoo and have started pulling out summer items from my wardrobe already, so I will keep my eye out for culling opportunities. I just got rid of several bags of items, though, so I don't think I have that many things that need to go. Great idea for a challenge, though.

I just did that on monday, does that count? My girlfriend came over and she helped me decide on some things, she ended up taking few things home and the rest went to sallyanns.I love decluttering!
