CHALLENGE: A Very "YOU" Week of Outfits

In the light of being proud of our sartorial preferences - which many reflected on this thread:

.....let's have a week of wearing outfits that showcase your signature style, and scream YOU. Tell us why the outfits scream "you" more than other types of outfits. It's an interesting exercise - for you and for the forum - because sometimes it's surprising what you come up with. And the slam dunks are awfully satisfying.

I know this can be hard to do in the dead of Winter, but we can rerun the challenge during your favourite seasons too.

Dates: Feb 25 to Mar 1

Maybe we should consider doing it seasonally, in fact. Some people switch style personae from winter to summer. And some stay that same, but have to reinterpret a bit to make it work.

I'm up for it. Although I kind of do this basically all the time anyway. My FFBOs are all very "me" outfits, if simpler than some of my other outfits. The challenge is remembering to photograph them!

I love this! I’m not sure I’ll have time to post but I’ll try to keep this in mind all week. I do think I manage to dress like ‘me’ more often than not but it’s a good mantra to keep in mind while I’m choosing clothes in the morning.

I also really like Suz’s idea of a seasonal version. We don’t really have seasons here and when I do go somewhere hot, I have trouble staying true to my style.

Angie - this is so funny. Ok maybe I’m missing something. But I don’t get it. Are there people who wear outfits that aren’t “them” on a daily basis? I mean every outfit I wear screams “me.” They are all my favorites but on certain days I may crave different ones. Casual, dressy, work or weekend. Unless I buy something and it’s a mega fail - and I purge those things out. Is that unusual?

Griffin: When I take in clients for permanent residence or naturalization interviews, I dress more conservatively and less maximal than is my preference. I don’t dress Big Law but I try not to look overly quirky or casual. No sense in horrifying clients (and tomorrow I am taking in a colleague’s client) or the institution.

But Donna do you consider this outfit not you? IOW it’s theater, not something you would wear outside this task like a uniform forced on you? Or is it you but the quiet conservative you? I would dress differently for a funeral, dog show, wedding, job interview but they are all distinctly me. Is that clear at all? That’s the source of my confusion. If I had to wear a uniform that would probably be distinctly other. But as long as I am dressing for the occasion otherwise they are all very me but different.

Gryffin, fair question, and allow me to explain . You’re one of the lucky ones wearing outfits that scream YOU everyday. And there are many on this forum on your team. No though, not everyone wears outfits that screams them daily for all sorts of reasons. They haven’t honed their authentic style, they’re figuring out their signature look, they tone things down for their audience, they have to wear a uniform, they’re not energized to get dressed the way they really want to, fall into a rut that’s easy and practical, budget restrictions, time constraints, weather restrictions, leaving items for good, negative body image, lack of confidence, and the list goes on. Hope that makes sense.

If you wear outfits that scream you daily, BRILLIANT! So much the better, and the challenge is easy. Then you can tell us why each outfit screams your style, and we can learn more about your strong sartorial choices. All good.

I think this will be a fun way to shake me out of wearing PJs to work at home. And to figure why I consider certain things 'me' hmmm. Now to just actually do it and remember to take pictures...
