Love the polka dots dresses on this thread - Karie's, Laurie's, Staysfit's and yours, Sal - they have a timeless elegance.

Joy : black looks fabulous with pale blue.

All my polka dots : 3 shirts with black background, they look pretty crazy - esp the mutton sleeved one - so they're worn as layers only.

Skylurker, they don't look crazy at all. All of them are fab and interesting. And they are fine worn "alone", but you certainly look great in layers.
I keep coming back to #4 - classic elegance with a feminine vibe.

I checked my closet. Evidently, I do not own one single polka dot item. NOT one single item.

Joy - thanks for sharing another polka dot look. You have a wonderful collection and they really suit you.

Staysfit - that is such an elegant dress, I can see why it has lasted so well. I love the design of the bodice.

Skylurker - your spots are stunning. The tops remind me a little of L'Abeille's ones but you both put your own stamp on the style. I like them both layered and unlayered - but layered they provide a fun flair that a plain shirt would not. And thank you for your kind words.

Sterling - interesting!! I could actually see you in a spotty shirt, especially like the first one of Skylurker. But as I mentioned earlier there is no need to invest in a pattern, I do own four plaid/checked items but only one was purchased (three were inherited from different people). I rarely find a plaid that speaks to me.

Thank you so much for the lovely pictures on the thread, I have loved seeing the diversity of styles here from retro, to classic, to edgy. Spots can be extremely feminine or more androgynous. Spots can be pattern mixed with florals or with other spots or with animal prints. We've seen them on scarves, blouses, shirts, tights, dresses, shoes, cuffs, sweaters and cardigans. Lovely eye candy:)

Polka-dot dress, white on navy, as promised. WIW today for church. Dots are not evenly spaced and kind of fuzzy looking.

Lovely dress, Joy! Dots that are unevenly spaced really add interest to an outfit.

This is really lovely Joy, what a great dress.

Joy -- I love your entire wardrobe. You and RachyLou can pull something out of your closet to match any challenge.

skylurker, I love your dots layered like that. I am going to have to remember to try that with my prints this winter. It's a fab look.

Wow! Look at these polka dot collections!

I have an on-again, off-again relationship with polka dots. Sometimes they're too simple for me. Sometimes I'm a wannabe Flamenco groupie.

You'll have to forgive me, I only have one pic to show today, which is a shot of my cell screen after paging back thru my WIWs. Lol. I'm not gonna turn on my computer because I'm avoiding my email.

Note to self: My clothes are OLD. Or I'm old, because I think this is 'new.' Lol. Y'all don't want to know how many pages/years I went back to find this. The Saucony's here died, and I feel I need another pair...

I like this Rachy - it might be old but it looks very current!

Do you have some other sneakers you can swap in - flat boots will also work I think or oxfords or actually pretty much anything.

Thanks for sharing!!

That's a good idea! Boots! Hmm. I do have flat boots that would work I feel (combat lite), but some scrunchy ankle boots would be nice...

I do have some other sneaks, but they're not as cool. The Saucony had super flat soles.

It is so much fun to see so many styles represented with dots. Skylurker, you make them look elegant. Sal and Rachylou, yours are playful.

Thanks Sal, Jenn and Joy.
Joy, such a pretty dress.
Jenn : you make me realize that, breton tops excepted, most of my patterns are on layering tops.
Rachylou, "Flamenco groupie" cracked me up. Always love the contrast between your whimsy clothes and your hieratic face.

Rachylou, I think those shoes were very cool with that skirt! And agree with skylurker about the contrast between your face and your clothes.

Forgot to mention that I have a black tote bag with white polka dots which I happily wear year round. As Angie has shown several times, patterned accessories can do much to elevate an outfit (and, in my opinion, also to lift one's spirits).

Skylurker, The Cat - Thanks. Y'all know... my brain has just now connected the words 'hierophant' and 'hieratic.' Lol. Of course. But before they were filed completely separately. This is the like the time Notre Dame finally stopped being simply a sound, a name and started being Our Lady to me. Brain is all excited about a new neural connection!

This is late, but I found this polka dot tank in my closet that I'd forgotten about so I decided to wear it today. Paired with stripes and double posted to the other thread because the current challenge is stripes.

Polka dots can look so fun! I like a lot of these, like Joy's dress & Skylurker's 1 & 2. Now I'm curious if I'll react differently the next time I consider them for myself.

Today's work outfit: blush & white with black polka dots.

The Cat : soft, fluid : calm and pretty outfit.

That's super fun, The Cat!

Lovely outfit. Chic and timeless.

Sal, skylurker and rachylou, thanks for your kind comments.

I just realized that I actually have 2 more items in this category (dots & spots, which I think is my favorite pattern category): a blue scarf with white polka dots, and a blush shirt with black spots. You may get to see me wearing these items another day.

Right now, I am looking forward to see how you all will handle the next pattern challenges from Sal.

Just to revitalise this one...I love Sal's and Joy's black and white dresses and Rachy's skirt! Cos I love monochrome. Just remembered my Steve Madden boots which I've worn most of the week! Will they count as polka dot boots?

Sal, you have mastered the polka dots!
All the examples shown here are so very inspiring.
Rach, your skirt and tennis look is awesome. It makes me want to pair polka dots with Converse.
This summer, polka dots had a moment on the Quebec scene. 2 local designers (Annie 50 and Rien ne se perd tout se crée) offered them in skirts, dresses but mostly you could find them in detailing, often paired with stripes, lace (or both). I delved into it! Then I realized I needed to work on a contrasting item to frame the dots: bright solid red works well, as bright green or yellow.. and of course black and white.
The traditionnal polka dots were often white dots on navy; but the new trend seems to be turning its nose on the hue and favoring black instead.
I like to pair dots with a denim jacket.
One last (funny) detail: when I was young and didn't speak much English, I misheard ’’polka dots’’ and thought it was a print names after some obscur designer, Paul Cadotte. Imagine my mortification when I realized my mistake!

Krish that is a lovely funny story. I have a similar one from being a teenager. In the 70s there was a phrase in common use "ha ha, sucked in badly". I misheard this and thought it was someone's name, didn't understand the meaning. So I went around saying "Sucton Bagley" for quite some time. Similar mortification! I was quite the geek/nerd.
Never mind, we have come into our own with adulthood!

No polka dots, but I found some spots--the undisciplined wiggly kind.

#1 is a 20-year-old J Peterman long silk dress that I love but never wear, because it's a long silk dress. Maybe it needs a denim jacket. The spots are brown on ivory.

#2 is a not-yet-worn Joie silk top.

#3 is an Amour Vert silk tunic with ivory hearts on navy

Weird. I almost never wear silk, but all my spotted items are silk.

Laura, silk dotty items are wonderful to have. I love your dress. Jenni, those shoes are fab! They definitely have dots.
Krish, what a great story. We have all had times like that. I will never think of polka-dots in the same way again. They will be creations of the great designer, Paul Caudotte!

Actually Paul Cadotte is quite a cool name. Someone should name a fashion range that! Copyright it fast Krish!
