Challenge 1: Show us your Polka Dot WIW

Starting off - polka dots/spots which have become quite well represented in my wardrobe with two dresses, three tops and one scarf. Apparently a "polka dot " is one of a number of round dots repeated to form a regular pattern on fabric.

So some of mine are polka dots and I think some are just plain old spots.

Why do I like them? I think they are fun and playful, and an easy pattern to wear. They are relatively classic - I don't think they are particularly on trend right now.

I am going to wear polka dots for a few days in different ways and post a picture to this thread of the outfits. I would love some company - either current WIW or past WIW featuring spots. If you are shy then you can just photograph the shirt or dress, or even add a photo of a polka dot or spotted outfit that you like.

Today is Wednesday for me, so on Monday I will start a similar thread but for the perennial favourite - stripes. Other patterns to follow - I don't have a lot of winter floral or botanicals but I know others do!! There is a chance for plaid lovers and the last one will include any other pattern - a wildcard.

Anyway today I am wearing a wine coloured dress with cream polka dots. This has been shown before as have the boots, necklace and coat. I do have a new bag however, in a toffee leather. I am loving it so far.

Please share your dotty looks!!

PS Off for a hair cut/colour tomorrow and hopefully a smile makeover too...

Not sure I have them Sally but could try to get my older DD 26 y to participate! She has gone mad on red with white polka dots. Think she got a cup first and now has a wallet, an umbrella and a Mickey Mouse nightshirt as well. She looks very cute in it but I doubt would let me photo her in her nightshirt for the forum!

I love polka dots. A favourite pattern.
Too busy for taking pics now, but can report that in my present (summer) wardrobe, I have:
- a white skirt with black polka dots. (These dots are in 4 different sizes)
- plum harem pants with white polka dots
- a knitted short-sleeved white top with black polka dots
- a long white T-shirt with black polka dots
- a long black T-shirt with white polka dots
- a long white scarf with black polka dots
- a long grey scarf with white polka dots
- a long blush cardigan with black polka dots
- blue socks with black polka dots
- white socks with black polka dots

Thanks Jenni- it sounds like Minnie Mouse and your daughter share a love for red and white polka dots!!

The Cat - that is a great collection. Socks are a fun thing to have polka dots on. Lots of black and white polka dots in your list - which is one of my favourite combinations. I have two black items with white/cream spots (one is definitely spotty rather than polka dots)

I'm not at home but here are three dotty photos from my phone.

I'll have to count later. Off the top of my head: Navy with white polka dots in a dress, skirt, sweater, capris, and scarf; black and white scarf; black and grey scarf; and white socks with black and red, and black and navy dots. Also this shirt (pic 1) in chambray blue with white pindots.

I also had a navy dotty cropped T, which didn't flatter and was passed on to someone who needed it. But remotely, I pattern mixed it with the dotty scarf and skirt and posted the WIW, I'll try to find it.

1 black zippered small bag with white polka dots that lives in my purse. And one navy shirt with blue polka dots.

For some probably genetic reason, looking at them usually makes me nauseous. At least one of my 3 first cousins on my dad's side has the same thing.

Wow, that's a beautiful outfit! I like it a lot. Wine red and cream - so intersting!

I have no polka dots in my wardrobe (but I like them) except an old, blue & white polka dots dress that I have loved immensely. It was super cheap but it looked chic, super comfortable and always received a lot of compliments. I have worn the heck out of it. Now it is battered and faded and I have demoted it to home wear. I would be happy to find another dress like that!

Here is my daughter's cup which started her off. This is the only thing of her polka dot items here as she no longer lives at home, but her wallet, umbrella and nightshirt all look like this.

I adore polka dots! They are my favorite pattern ever. Although I have many polka dot items in my wardrobe, the dress below is my favorite. It's not a full length pic of me, but the dress comes to just above my knees. The two handsome gentlemen in the photo are my nephew and my hubby.

And I LOVE that polka dot dress on you, Sal. The color is gorgeous and it looks super comfy and stylish.

Polka dots are one pattern that I own very little of so in going to skip this week. I think I have one scarf, a couple pairs of socks, and one very old loungewear dress (that sounds just like Sisi's!). I like polka dots fine, but I guess they don't really speak to me or something.

I have a polka dot sweater. I wore it for a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser. I used a different bag, though. This adorable one is useless, it's so small.

Sally, that is a great dress and so cute on you. My polka-dots are older pieces and all black or navy and white. I am wearing this outfit today for the challenge.. Oldie but goodie Target black skirt, thrifted black and white nylon polka-dot top over a black cami, white ballet flats.

I think I will win for Most Polka Dot Scarves. After my sick husband wakes up, I will take a pic or two. Umm, I have so many they may not all fit in one photo.

Polka-dots and leopard! A new one for this pattern mixer and a combination that is begging for a try. Don't think I have compatible colors though.

L'Abeille - your spots are very elegant. I like them all but the middle one with the larger spots is a stunner. Thanks for sharing.

Barbara Diane - those sound like nice pieces but I imagine you do not want too many around. One of those strange quirks (I feel nauseous from the odd carpet - the type in lobbies and airports)

Sisi - thank you!! Your old dress sounds like a a great piece. Spots have a playful quality about them don't they which is perfect for summer.

I like most patterns but am not so drawn to plaid/tartans. I do not consciously seek out spots but somehow have two dresses, three tops and a scarf....

Angie - thank you for chiming in. It is a look I have worn three or four times this winter (with different pendants and tights on occasions) and loved it. I think your love of toffee has influenced me - I realised that I LOVE warm caramel and toffee shades but do not like cool ones or beige/oatmeal. I like eating oatmeal though (and caramel and toffee).

Donna - I look forward to seeing your scarf collection. I just realised I have two polka dot scarves (white with black spots and wine red with cream). Hope hubby improves.

Jenn - thanks!! The dress, bag and coat are new this winter - the boot are several years old. All additions were pieces I wanted as soon as I saw them - dress is a NZ designer Tuesday. coat is thrifted Fake fur (Sears actually), and the bag is Witchery (Australian chain store).

The Cat - great look and great to see spots and leopard. A very elegant chic comfortable outfit.

BC - thanks, you are not the only one. But I am sure I have seen you in abstract or floral prints so I hope you can join in on those threads in a week or two.

I am still in exercise gear now but will wear spots later today and post my look....

It is too hot to wear any of this today. The first pic is my scarves. The second is a pullover plus three shirts. The third is a fit'n'flare dress, a cardigan, and a pencil skirt. The last are socks. Can you tell that polka dots, especially black and white/cream ones, are my favorite pattern?
