Can these pants be saved

I love the idea of these pants....they’re lightweight and comfortable, perfect for when it’s to hot for denim but not hot enough (at least for me) for shorts....and yet...I’ve probably only worn them 4 times, and I’ve owned them 4 or 5 years.
So I’m turning to the collective wisdom of my fellow fabbers. How would you style them?

I think I would wear a top that is light and gauzy, with perhaps a scarf, in similar tones to the trousers.

I’d wear them just like that actually, or with any loose fitting tee, sleeveless tee or tank. Black or white or navy for a minimal look, any color basically if you prefer color... Add a denim jacket when it cools down and/or a casual summer scarf ... i like the same tone sandals with the subtle bling!

to me, the answer depends a lot on why you've not been wearing them. There must be something you don't like about them or that doesn't feel right to you?

Those would be my pants that I'd throw on, on a weekend, to go run errands in the heat, and I'd be perfectly happy in them. But for some reason, they're not working for you...what do you think it is?

I like what Jane and Liesbeth said. You could use an oversized linen shirt, maybe tied in front. I like those sandals with the pants. How about a slouchy welted striped tee? I would wear them for casual weekends. They don't look like they could go to work but seem meant to be worn casually.

i guess i should have added more details as to why i'm not wearing them...honestly not wearing them because i stumped as to how to make them work in a way that makes me feel good.i wore them as picture yesterday and felt "serviceable", and i'd like to feel better than that...i think reading Jane's answer helps me to understand why...Boho is not me, i like more structure and lean much more classic...

Yeah...I think it's a style issue. They look good on you. All pants look good on you! So if you're not wearing them, it's because you're not feeling them, and if you're not feeling them, it's because they bother you somehow. I would have similar problems with this type of pant. I still have a pair of J. Crew full length jogging pants -- they are a bit more structured than this, but still very "soft" with rounded lines. I've only worn them about 10 times. Part of that is the fabrication weight (too hot for summer, not warm enough for winter). But some is also the shape/ drape of them. I like more structure on my bottom half.

I notice in the Find photo they are not rolled up, and the model is wearing a heeled shoe. I think those things contribute to the pants looking more intentionally styled. You could also try semi tucking a loose shirt and adding some kind of chunky, earthy necklace... but that won’t be classic
If they just aren’t your style I’d use them as comfortable summer housewear. I use that term instead of loungewear for stuff I will wear inside & outside on days I am doing chores including gardening, window washing etc, and may see neighbours or a delivery person. If I actually leave the home area I change into a ‘real’ outfit. So my housewear is a little more presentable than my PJs but not my ‘real clothes’ and doesn’t need to form ‘outfits’. I also wear the same stuff at the cottage. It’s a good use for not-quite-right items and keeps my good stuff from getting unnecessary wear.

What Liesbeth said. I also like the idea of a looser fit tee with a semi-tuck.

As Suz says - ALL pants look good on you, so that's not the issue. I'd be inclined to wear them with a heel (as per the find pic) and either a printed drapier top with some shoulder structure, or a fitted t (like you have on here) and some kind of third piece (like a denim jacket , a blazer, etc).

Wow, I love them as-worn. But my style is on the less-structured side; if yours isn't, they probably won't ever feel right to you.

suz and lisa p, thank you..and i'm heading into my 55 birthday and feeling....well...like some things are just not how i remember them, or want them to be...and it's nice to get a compliment
i don't see wearing these with heels most days, but i will try a semi tuck...not sure why i haven't tried that, i think maybe because these less fitted around the waist/hips....
Jules...i've tried to wear them more like the model photo and the structured person in me fusses with them for 10 minutes because i cann't get them to look "right'....
i'm going to finish my sunday chores and give it another try!

I love these on you. I'm thinking a low wedge heeled sandal and a necklace would dress them up. To me, this is luxe, relaxed summer look.

kkards, can you tie the tabs like the photo? Scrunched hems instead of rolls. I love them with the flat sandals - looks more current than the cage heels. Try a top better than a basic tee too.

Do they work in only a very narrow range of temperature that your climate gets only a few times a year? If so, that might be a reason to reach for them less. I’ve realized this about my climate - nowadays we move quickly from highs in the 60’s to highs in the 80’s-90’s. This gives me less need for anything in between, but I still need something when those temps come around. Even if that stuff gets less worn, it’s a necessary (if small) capsule.

If it’s just something about the pants themselves or the styling, carry on with the above advice

Those trousers look great on you casual but cool.l love the sandals that you are wearing with them,caged sandals would also look good.As for tops something with some slouch in it would be good,a loose fitting faux wrap?gingham?

Ok..tried them again this afternoon. Like this so much better, ...semi tuck, more volume on top, darker to add more visual weight. Still need to play around some, but thank you all for getting me started

Adore your sandals!
I DO like boho, so I would be wearing them as is with the sandals( either first or second pic) but a longer floatier top eg see my pic below.
And just to amuse you... I was scared of the 55 birthday because of the demographic change. When we do surveys here eg for my work, the "about you" bits, the groupings are 45-54 and then 55-64. And I didn't want to move groups! But now past birthday 57, it's fine! You are looking fab xx

Amazing what a difference in the second picture! Good job! I like the length a little longer like you have in the second one and the black tee is great with them.

Scrunching helps a lot, but for me, it's the fabulous shoes on the model that take these pants from knock-around to knock-out. Maybe not for everyday, but once in awhile?
