Boho fabness OR a mess?

Hi all,
I’m in two minds about today’s attempt at super casual winter boho. When I say super casual I mean school and kinder drop offs, walks around town, cafe and family time.
Part of me likes the layered, devil-may-care look.... but part of me wonders if the wideness across the hip is just too much.
Denim jacket- Zara
Flecked black and brown sweater-sportsgirl
Thick olive wrap skirt- Zara
Taupe crochet scarf- Dangerfield
Black tights- Bonds
Leopard flats- Boden

I love it! Not too much at all. I think the tights slim everything down. That grey bag is gorgeous.

Wow! I really like this outfit. It looks modern, relaxed and interesting with layers and different textures. I can also see the boho vibe. If I may suggest, maybe switching out the ballet flats with another style would work even better? Maybe heels or loafers would make this look even more current? Just a thought! You look fab regardless.

I agree with Angie. I too am seeing avant-garde. Avant-garde pushes the edge without being ridiculous. It is fun and interesting. You instantly want to meet that woman and know what she thinks about everything under the sun.

Boho .... well ..... not so much.

FWIW, I DO see boho, in a “free people” sense. The earth tones, textured knits, and utilitarian fabric (denim jacket) express that style to me.

Like Synne, I might suggest tweaking the shoes. The ballet flats read more ladylike to me, esp because of the piping and the low block heel. Maybe a funky low ankle bootie with perforations/cutouts?

I think all the layers look good. You look warm and interesting. Are your feet cold? I find it slightly incongruous that you have 3 or 4 layers on top and then ballet slippers and no socks. Maybe boots or booties would work too.

I'm with Sara. My feet would be cold so that part looks "seasonally confused" to me. I forget where in Australia you are. Otherwise it looks great.

These layers work beautifully on you! I see no bulk at the hips whatsoever. Great palette of earthy blues/greens/greys, and I agree agree that these layers read edgy/urban/avant-garde rather than boho. Super cool.

Looks wonderful to me and no hip problems in evidence! (I agree with those questioning the shoes purely on warmth reasons! I think of you often when I hear the Melbourne temperatures on the news)

Sarah L: Thanks for the feedback. I agree that minimal coverage on the feet teamed with layers up top may look incongruous... it IS incongruous. But I must say it's commonly done where I live so it's not so eccentric IRL. But I hear you and I will take the advice on board, and incorporate boots a little more frequently.

Jussie, you are right about the shoes /bare ankles thing is Australia. If you're fine with it go for it. It looks ok. I was just speaking as someone who is very prone to cold feet.

Oh, if you're comfortable with bare ankles, don't change on account of me. I just wondered how cold it was since my feet get cold easily. I usually do the opposite and wear boots and tights before layers on top.

Looove! Would happily wear this myself (but probably with more sparklies ) I also see more arty than boho, with the less conventional hemlines and lengths, leggings, draping, and flat shoes. Urban Arty. FWIW I don't see the "middle" as heavy because each layer falls at a different vertical height so it still all draws the eye up and down. Denim jacket adds a good amount of structure to my eye, too.
