Bah humbug to edge - I'm embracing my modern classic side! I'm kidding because I totally appreciate funkier, edgier, trendier, whatever you want to call it on others...just not on me. So here are a few of the outfits I've worn in the past couple of weeks that I felt were more successful because they felt more like "me".

Comments, thoughts, suggestions for improvements always welcome. I'll do outfit deets below.

Outfit details:

1. Black jacket, black skinny pants, cognac bag and animal print shoes.
2. Burgundy jacket, white button up, brown tweed skirt, tall blonde boots
3. Black jacket, lacy tank, light brown pants, black boots
4. Black jacket (hmmm...I'm seeing a pattern here), camel sweater layered over a cream top, my fun fluevog boots
5. This one is a bit out of the box for me for two reasons: 1. no black! 2. red pants! Red skinnies, white button up, navy knit shell, khaki jacket, animal print shoes
6. I wore #5 to work and we went out to a casual dinner with friends that night so I swapped out the jacket for a black (here we go again...) sweater, with a cream top peeking out from under the sweater and kept my fun heels. It's the flash from the camera that's causing the "white out" under the sweater!
7. The "pinspiration" for #5. I'm no Karolina Kurkova that's for sure!

I love every single one of these and cannot find anything that I would change! I am lusting after those dark skinnies and the animal print shoes, but what is more impressive is how you put it all together and just oooooze chic!

Well my dear I think you have edge:). Modern Classic is perhaps "who you are" but you do tend to add unexpected touches that in my book add edge. Love every one of these outfits. And I relate to your desire to add edge but find modern classic is definitely the foundation of my style...can't fight it:)

You put so much good style in this thread. It's almost too much to take in. If I had a job like yours I would want to dress just like you. Really love the last casual outfit, I want to copy that look!

These are great outfits! It also looks like you ended up with a really nice combination of colors (black, light brown, burgundy/red, grey) that works to create what looks like a perfect capsule (i.e., you could probably mix items within this group of outfits for more good combinations).

I think the idea of "being you" is very important, not just so you feel comfortable, but because I think it really works to project to others some kind of consistent core. You totally do that in these ensembles.

I know people who have a different style persona every day and I find it jarring and confusing. Or does anyone remember Hillary Clinton's revolving hairstyles in the '90s and how much everybody commented on that?

You look wonderful in each of these outfits. I don't know if it is important to call the special touches you add to modern classic edge (wood heels, moto style jacket, interesting belt, etc.) or just personality but you look stylish and absolutely you in the best way.

You an example of the best in modern classic dressing. All of these have amazing fit and beautiful proportions. #2 and #5 are my favorites.

BTW --- Your hair is looking particularly wonderful these days, and is providing a perfect frame for your face and kilowatt smile. This illustrates why Angie tells everyone that a good haircut is the first step in a style journey (well, along with the bra fitting --- but let's assume you've got that covered.)

Thanks everyone! I find when I'm not trying to add "edge" the outfits come together more naturally and I think they look better on me - probably because I feel better in them! Back to Angie's happiness factor I suppose!

Deborah: I think you've hit on what's important to me - I want to add something unexpected. That's a much better word than "edge" for defining what I want. Thank you!

Denise: thank you! I wish I could do casual as well as you do. It's still my stumbling block.
Makrame: that's the beauty of neutrals - I mix and match all the time!
Adelfa: consistency is important to me. I just don't want to get into a rut!

Suz: yes! It was like Tina thought, the screw needed to be tightened but for some reason I wasn't able to get it to cooperate. Nordies got me sorted though.
Beth Ann: ahhh...my hair. I fight it daily, but I'm glad you think it looks good! Out of curiosity, does it look better smooth or curly to your eye?

LOVE every one of these but 1,2,3 and 6 especially! I also love that you are wearing the same bag in most but it doesn't feel like it's a repeat. I just got a new bag I'm hoping will work that way too so I can't help but notice. The unexpected to me are the shoes in some and the hairstyle changes. I wear the same hairstyle every day and really should change it up. You are an inspiration to make me want to try small changes like this that make it so FAB!

Well, you look fantastic! All the outfits are great.

I have to tell you that I like you with curls better, hair that's "more free." You don't seem as bright and perky with the preppy plain & straight.

You are looking fantastic Mrs. C! I must say that #1 (all black with leo and camel) and #3 (VERY cool jacket and totally dig the pointy pumps) are incredibly striking to me. I've said it before and I'll say it again, your awesome personality and attitude adds more edge to your look than is noticeable from just photos

Christy, if there was any way I could look like you, I would - you have tons of style and there is edge in here, with those Fluevogs and the cut of the jackets and the attitude - your HAIR! All fantastic and not at all basic or boring. I can't imagine why you feel anything needs to change!

I am loving all of these really. 5 is fantastic...4 I am not quite as crazy about....I think the camel blouse is high in comparison to the blouse in 5....so it has a more closed feeling.....but all in all I love the mix and match and the classic look in all.

I think (hope!) you know I'm another big fan of your style, and in fact appreciate it in a "I'd like to steal that" way. What a treat to see a few of your current favorites!

On a related note, I also so love your hair with it's natural wave and it's looking especially good. Any product recs?

Vix: My stylist gave me some Pearatin hair serum that I've been using both when I wear it curly and straight. Seems to help. But the wave isn't entirely natural - I have to use a curling iron to help coax out the curls on the top layer.

Angie: Killer all around is a big boost - thank you! Yes, I think we came up with Queen Modern Classic or Business Sophisticate. You also said I could join the Sleek Urban Princess tribe - I consider #1 is my effort towards that one!
