Tanya's terrific post on wardrobe color really got me thinking. Her analysis of her colors was so spot-on accurate, but I also really liked how far she took the seasonal approach - mostly this, and some of that, and left it there. I want to do the same thing, but I really waffle on what my "mostly this" should be. I could really use some other eyes and opinions!

In short:
1. My skin and eyes shout Summer/Winter.
2. My hair leans Spring/Autumn.
3. I have a decided wardrobe palette and color tastes.

I'm pretty fair, with pink; many concealers turn orange on me. My eyes are definitely blue. I glow in white, and love to wear it. Black isn't bad. Cream isn't bad, per se, but it doesn't particularly flatter. Tans and beiges and golds are terrible. My neutrals are white and black, and sometimes navy/ink.

As a girl, I had very blonde hair, and per the wisdom of the day, was
clearly a Summer. My mother is a classic Winter, so it all made sense
then. Then my hair darkened.
Summer palettes now are just too muted. They look to boring, too dull for me. I like more saturated colors.

That says Winter, right?

But my hair darkened into a color that combines blonde, light
brown, and red. In pic #4 I'm wearing a wig that's a very close
match to my hairline; the color is officially "golden reddish
brown." Once I tried a true ash light brown wig with no red - it didn't come close to blending. And yet the wisdom states that Winters have no red in their hair.

So much for the physical characteristics. I have decided opinions on what colors look good and bad, and also colors that I don't like to wear although they "should" look good. Surely this would work into the "right" colors...

* See pics 1 & 2 for the wardrobe palette. I would say it's pretty straightforward rainbow-ish, light on the orange and purple and neutrals, heavy on the blue. (I've had to embargo myself from buying more blue dresses.) Most of the colors are just a titch softer than primaries, to me.

* I don't enjoy wearing teal and aqua. I get feedback that they look good, but they're just not my favorites. I don't know why. But greens with some blue (like jade and mint) I love.

* I don't care for berry, magenta, fuchsia, or orchid on myself. I love rose pink and watermelon pink and pretty much any cranberry, burgundy, and red except for tomato, which has orange. It's got to be the presence of blue/purple I instinctively avoid. It's not the skin; I have both lavender and eggplant and those are nice. Maybe it's the pink-purple fighting with the red in my hair?

* Greens and blues - true greens and blues, not teal or aqua - are awesome. I love saturated, just-off primary colors.

* Gray and silver, icy lavender-gray or icy blue-gray, are not the best next to my face.

I've looked at the Bright Winter colors, but that includes so much purply-pink that it really makes me wonder. The overall effect can be a bit too bright for me. I like quite a few Deep/Dark Winter colors, but the wisdom that goes along rules out both blue eyes and reddish hair! I know those are just guidelines, and unless I'm totally missing something, I'm a bit outside of all the guidelines. I'm very happy with the palette I've figured out for myself, and I'm not looking for a box to be in! But I like to know the Whys, and this has puzzled me for a long time.
