Are there any trends which you love but feel unable to wear?

I have been looking through vogue.co.uk (it certainly beats the ironing as a way to idle half an hour) and I'm now so very fond of the kilts which are available for Autumn/ Winter

I could really integrate the look into my existing wardrobe BUT I live in Scotland and would look like I've incorporated the national dress into my ensemble :0(

Not really a trend, but after a number of years working as a waitress I can't wear black trousers or skirt and a white shirt. Also as a result of my school uniform I can't do white shirt and navy skirt.

(Nonsense, Kim! You can wear 95% of the trends).

All the shoes that are perfectly paired with my much wanted slouch pants. Can't wear any of them.

Will NEVER again wear scratchy casual tights. Bad school uniform experience.

I love the kilt! Would totally wear it!

Speaking of which - Angie are you thinking of replacing your moto for an aviator style jacket? In all the media press over here they are calling it this seasons moto - I think that Burberry showcased them at London fashion week?

Fi, I like the look of aviator jackets but it's too casual for my style. My motos will be interchanged (not replaced as I have been wearing moto jackets since the 80's) with my new cropped tuxedo jacket instead. I'm a smarty pants

The Herve Leger bandage dress. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way they look but my pretty pear hips will probably not. I was looking at something almost similar as a LBD in another post but highly doubt it would work for me. I'll still probably try it or something like it just because I won't be able to to let it go otherwise...

Fi, the new casual aviator jackets are fabulous! But they *can* look bulky and masculine in a bad way, so you need to be quite discerning about fit.

I love the kilt! Don't write it off just because you're in Scotland, Julie. Years ago I knew a guy, Scottish, who occasionally wore a kilt casually- like with a t shirt or sweater on top. This was in Canada but he claimed that he did it from time to time at home, too. Of course, it might have helped that the guy in question looked like the love child of David Beckham and Brad Pitt, and probably could have rocked a paper bag if he wanted to.

I often feel that if I was completely honest with myself, I wouldn't wear skinny jeans as much. But I love the look and until something else comes along that makes me feel that pulled-together, I'll be sporting them.

Can't say I'm yearning for any particular trends and don't feel as though I could carry them off. What I do sometimes feel is that I can't afford decent trendy pieces that are appropriate for my age.

Gladiator sandals: I like how they look with shorts or dress but my ankles are just totally wrong for this style.

Anne, you are killing me with this David-Brad thing. Hee hee!

I love the look of skinnies with shorter tops the way lithe models can pull off, but I can only wear them with tunic-length tops. And like Sveta, I like gladiator sandals with skirts, dresses and shorts but they just don't work on my legs.

I LOVE dressy short shorts, heels and jackets...this was a trend in the 90's for about a minute....but not age appropriate for me

Can't do strong shoulder anything. Since my shoulders are the widest part of my body, it's just not a good look for me. I also love the shorts with tights. I rocked them in the 90's, and I'm just too old this time around.

I had a response all ready but was completely distracted by the thought of a Becks-Pitt love child. Oh my. I'm fanning myself right now.

There are many trends that I'd love to wear but I just don't think work on an almost 42 year old:( I do love heels but just can't manage anything more than 3". There are a pair of red heels that I love that remind me of Angie's Kate Spades. They're 3.5" though, so no go. At Talbots, no less. *harumph*

I do love the kilts and wore one in the late 80s that I adored!

Ummm, most of them! Can't do strong shoulders or shoulder/arm detailing in general (so forget military epaulets, horizontal seaming, shirring etc) because of my broad shoulders/back. I am in fact wearing skinnies but the whole volume on top/skinny on the bottom is not the best look for my body type. Can't do high heels because of my fussy feet. Can't do anything too short because I'm too old. Can't wear sleeveless because my arms are too fat.

Boy, I sound like such a whiner! It's really not that bad. I guess I'm going to try to self-rationalize by saying that I am learning not to "love" those trends that don't work for me!

BTW, Laura rocked her Burberry kilt with her moto boots last winter!!!
