PICS ADDED: Are blingy-butt jeans out of style?

I found a pair of Vigoss skinnies at Nordstrom Rack that I love - they fit with a perfect skinny slouch and have a great fade. Plus they work incredibly well with my booties. But they are that coarse-stitch blingy back pocket style. This kind of visual weight actually works well on my lower half, and I've always liked it. But is it dated completely and/or age inappropriate?

I'm no authority, but I know that I haven't seen anyone here in them for years. Also, the amount of damage I've done to leather chairs, seats over the years with anything sharp on my pockets has put me right off wearing said.

I live where these were really popular about five years ago. I don't see anyone wearing them anymore. I wouldn't say they are age inappropriate but I do find the look dated. Just my 2 cents.

Lots of people here still wear them (which makes me think they ARE dated!). They remind me of Antik Denim and True Religion. I see a lot of dudes wearing this style too.

Lol. I think if they fit your environmental norm then they are fine! Mine, not so much. Then again, I don't exactly hang with a hip crowd.

There something kind of classic about them? Like denim jackets? It's all about how you wear them?

I agree I haven't seen them in a while either but I think with your hair and overall edge pushing style they'd look great.

I never had any so the furniture damaging issue is unfamiliar to me but something to consider!

Y'know, I think Sharan has jeans like this and she wears them well. I didn't think they looked dated on her because the rest of the outfit elevates the look. I think they would work similarly on you. If you like them, why not?

I love this type of question because I always am thinking, hmm, if I wear this will those folks think I'm dated anc Chico-tastic, or will they just not know how cool I am that I either don't care or am already back in style, leaving them in the dust, and wear what I want and they WISH they had jeans that fit so well and are sorry they gave away their favorite blingy-butt pair!

Seriously, for me it often comes up when there is an aspect of an item that is so great--fit usually as for Una because fit is the most important thing to me that will make me hold onto something or to fall for something new--maybe a shoe, or comfortable fabric, or something but there is one little element that now seems off, but I don't think I can find the item with ALL of the features I need.

They were out, but this year I started tp see it again on some bloggers and stores.. not sure..

I wouldn't base my decision on these jeans on whether the blingy-ness of them is in style or not. I generally avoid a ton of bling on my back pockets, because I don't need to emphasize that part of my body. But since you're shaped differently than I am, that's an advantage, rather than a hindrance.

I don't think it is dated so much as a "classy" issue. I don't blink an eye when I see them on a 30 or 40 something who is otherwise dressed like an adult. I do have the stink eye for the style when worn with flip flops and tank tops and a snookie poof and way too much rhinestone jewlery.

They are quite popular here still, and have been in fashion in western wear for a long time.

If they fit great and you don't mind glitter butt I'd say get them. You might ask DH what he thinks. You could change out the rhinestone buttons and blend in the white parts with dye sponged on or Magic Marker

I never know what is dated! I would say I haven't seen them lately, but they also have a kind of rock chic vibe that I can really see on you. So I would say yes if you really love them, no if you are on the fence.

I'd say Go For It. If they fit well and you think the visual weight on the bum balances out your top - why not?! We live in a fashion age of no rules - right? Take advantage of that! Knowing you and your edgy style, they CANNOT look dated on you, Una.

Also, these jeans would look great paired with a trendy jacket and booties. And your edgy pieces will be a fun juxtaposition against the butt-bling. Just my 2 cents....I was sold on them when you said the fit was fantastic....that's getting pretty rare with jeans these days!

I would pass. I'm not sure they're dated exactly but maybe less trendy now so I feel like they're mostly seen on a younger crowd now?

I dunno, I think I'm also just generally off the style now (not that I was ever very into it). Was just thinking this weekend that some jeans I was wearing had too much going on on the pockets, and they were nowhere near this level. Also I find it weirdly clashes with outfits a lot.

You all are cracking me up! I think these are the kind of item that evoke a certain feeling for me - sort of like stompy boots or a slouchy beanie. They don't seem like something I should love, and yet I always have... There's something simultaneously rustic and sparkly about them, like those leather wrap bracelets with rhinestones or cowboy boots with lots of fringe and embroidery.

Does that make ANY sense? Do you have similar items that are irrationally all about how you feel?

They aren't as bad as I expected them to be...but, it's not JUST the bling butt. IMO, its the low rise, top stitching, this rinse+fading patter, and flap back pockets that add up to pretty dated.

But, love what you love. if anyone could make them cool, you could!

They were all over the place here 5 years ago and I remember seeing 5 smartly dressed women all wearing the same pair of true religion jeans walking out if a cafe together and forever I associate them with a certain scene here. They are very flattering on some shapes though, provide a bit of emphasis!
I love certain body con dresses, not short ones, but knee length or longer. I also love some maxi dresses. I will always love these pieces and they work on my shape brilliantly and I wear them proudly.

I just got back from Macy's. Guess what was on display? Blingy butt jeans! I couldn't believe it. No wonder the college girls going to a bar think they're stylin'!
