An Earthtone Summer Casual (and dress added)

Following Angie’s ensemble idea today, I wore this casual summer earth tone outfit. The jeans are Universal Thread from Target, the light blue shell is EF silk, the topper is a silk Citron of Santa Monica from eBay, a couple of years old. Gold loafers ( Sperry Topsider) and tiger bum bag worn as a cross body from Target. Belt is also Universal Thread from Target, earrings orange glass from the Denver Botanical Gardens. Does the shirt look ok as a jacket or too messy? I added a long thrifted necklace of multicolor glass fruit shapes in oranges, dark and tomato red and light turquoise.
I liked the earthy color of the jeans ( sort of al light rust). The waist is mid rise on me, but supposed to be high rise. Do the jeans look ok for a season or should they go ASAP?
ETA an earthy dress ( EF rust) plus EF beige linen open long cardi and a column of mustard plus dark denim and navy, also floral scarf topper.

This looks very good, nicely put together, lovely soft autumnal colours, the green of the top is pretty. The jeans look good, I am slightly struggling to tell though. I like the colour. I think because the colour is so lovely, can you keep them a bit longer.

Nice look,l like the earth tones with the turquoise/green top.The jeans are a great colour,is it the length of rise that bothers you?My only other comment is that I find the bum bag a bit busy with the patterned top as well,maybe a plain coloured bag with this look ?

Joy, I looked at the pictures first and thought you looked great in this, before reading your comments. Looking at the pictures, your jeans did not jump out at me to be too low rise. Now you have mentioned it, they are more low rise than lots of jeans around at the moment, but the colour is great and they fit you well. My vote is keep unless you don't like them yourself.

Cardiff girl, that is good information. I need to be careful what I wear with that tiger bag. It is a lot of pattern and needs to be the star. I don’t mind animal print, even giraffe, shoes with it but they are farther away and neutral colors.

I LOVE the color palette you've created, but have a horrible eye for fit. I say, if they feel good on you keep them!

Funny you should say that, Joy... my new Paige high rise are not as high rise as all that. My high high rise... they both come from el cheapo stores... Ross and a teeny bopper store. Hmm.

This is a really good example of earth tones worn in summer. The shirt pulls everything together and the tiger bag is a fun addition.

Very pretty color palette, Joy. I agree with you that a fair number of jeans that are described as high rise actually don’t rise to that description. I’m thinking of you, COS so-called high rise skinny. For that reason I’ve started buying my jeans by actual inch measure of rise, and my minimum is 11 inches. Shout out to Uniqlo for making some true high rise jeans that women with long rises like me can wear.

The colours, pattern mix, and palette are great, Joy. Extremely fun belt bag.

I don’t think either of the three clothing items are an ideal fit though. The jeans look like they need to be pulled up, but I know that’s just how they fit. The top looks a little snug and the shirt a little short - at least worn this way. Perhaps not with a skirt. What do you think?

Angie, you are right on about the fit. The jeans are too big to stay up even with the belt. I will have to think about if it is worth having the waist taken in. The top is too tight to wear over my insulin-induced “fluffy tummy” as my doctor calls the phenomena. The shirt is probably from a time when shorter was the fashion. I will have to see if it will work with higher rise wide denim crops. It looks like a boxy camp shirt buttoned up the front.

I really can't add to what Angie said so I will just second her opinion. I think a button up boxy camp shirt might look fun actually!

I’m thinking maybe 2 inches below the navel looks a bit low now? Mind you, we had a funny experience yesterday at a big mall where we were shopping for my husband for once, not for me. And going down the escalator he whispered to me, about a woman a few steps down from us, “Is she high-riding?” Which is what we used to say in the 90s I think, or at least the kids did!
I said that I thought how she was wearing her pants was actually the fashion now! That high-waisted was back in

Thank you for your comments Shevia and Jenni. I hope to find some high rise pants that fit and seenu to have had better luck with wide legs. I will keep looking.

More inspiration from Angie’s blog post on earthy: a dress outfit for church and column of mustard with dark denim. Also features a navy floral print scarf top from consignment shop 3 ways.
I would appreciate your thoughts.

My favorite is the EF dress outfit. This looks like the perfect late summer outfit. Cool, simple and with the right colors approaching fall.

Denise, I agree that that dress is perfect for whatever fall throws at us. I have at least 3 weights of toppers from light weight to warm with some wool that can be worn with it. Add a coat and brown boots and i’m set ‘ti winter.

Those earthy colours are gorgeous. The jeans might seem to be on the low side for our eyes these days. Funny how that works. I am loving all the warm earthy colours of your outfits.

Thank you, Style Fan, nemosmom, Angie and RainB for taking time to look and comment. It is so helpful to find out how things look to others. I had my doubts about wearing earth tones. Once upon a time when I was young and my hair was auburn, they were my best colors. Now i’m not so sure.
Today I am wearing the print shirt as a blouse buttoned up with my black wide cropped pants ( Yay. I found them!). And have received several co pliments. I think the shirt looks much better this way.
