A summer dress my way. wiw 7.11.19

Had to laugh at the difference between the store photo of the dress and me after 4 hours in the car . Oh to be so pressed, cool and together-looking It's super hot today, and humid ,which is the worst combo for feeling pull-together for a sales call. My hair also stops cooperating in this weather, but I'm trying to ignore it - ha. I was in and out of the car about 8 times today, hence the super-wrinkled dress.

This type of linen dress is my summer go-to, and I'm never sure if they are flattering, but they fit the bill for ease of wear and a reasonable fit. I'm always worried when Janet says things like " I can't wear shift or sack dresses" , because if they queen of dresses can't wear one, then what the heck am I going to do? But - the straight cut seems best on me when I am not at all interested in highlighting any part of my body. No clinging, no fussing and no pulling anywhere. I figure it's linen camouflage and I go with it. I also took anchie's gentle reminder/suggestion to get a bra fitting done and get some new "support" , as it were, and am sporting my new expensive and mildly alarming armour under this dress, which does provide a bit better of a silhouette

Wore with new sandals, which are super comfortable and were acomplete impulse purchase. Also using my new work tote, which I like , but is pretty heavy when I have my 12.9 inch iPad in there. I was hoping to take it on my upcoming week-long trip to Toronto, but I'm now not so sure. Also wearing my new favourite summer lipstick and fragrance.

I like a shift style dress myself so I think it's great. Love the lip color and sandals too. I use the spray bottle water technique with linen. If I know I have at least 5 mins. or so where I can allow it to dry before sitting down again (and it's not a really humid day or place) I will spritz my wrinkles in to relax them somewhat and just staying standing up until it dries. I do this all the time with my clothes - linen, cotton, and others.

Ooh - there's a great idea! I've never heard this before and must try. Although a non-humid day is pretty rare here in the summer.

I think it is a fantastic dress. I don't mind the wrinkles from linen but I will try texstyle's idea. Great sandals too. I do remember someone mentioning a new bra but it wasn`t me.

I think you look smashing! The color and shape of that dress is very flattering on you, and you have styled it simply, but beautifully. Ps - I would kill for your perfect eyebrows.

I think that this looks great Lisa,the interest on the sleeves stops it from being the ubiquitous linen shift dress and distracts from the linen wrinkles although I personally think that Linen wrinkled are all part of summer style.You might have felt hot but you look cool and put together.

You wear these better than I do, but I have a couple that are my summer go-tos as well. When it’s over 90, I want as little fabric touching me as possible.

The sleeves on this one do make it special, though, and your sandals are perfect styling touch.

I never chimed in on the wide crops thread because I felt conflicted..and by the time I saw it EVERYTHING had been said...... what I will say now is that I much prefer this look on you, it looks much more authentic.

I think polished edge is your look and I think that you are moving from polished trendy edge to polished sophisticated edge. Add in a relaxed element too because I know (like me) you like an ease, a non fussy aspect.

I think the wide crops read trendy rather than sophisticated....

Polished - on point hair, nails, jewelry and makeup plus accessories
Edge - not too conservative, a few quirks, neutrals, modern

You could probably swap the words out too for others that you prefer and I may be just rambling!!

I think Sal is on to something with her analysis of your style.

Also, I think the dress looks great. Makes me think how it's interesting that you say you can't "do" JFE. This style of dress is not traditionally flattering in the sense that it surrenders the waist and does not highlight any curves. But the way you wear it is, in fact, quite flattering! So maybe this is your version of JFE? (I really hope this doesn't come off as a backhanded compliment because I intend it as a sincere one.)

We do have a similar style, which is why your thoughts always resonate well with me. The difference between today's look and the wide crops look is all about authenticity and I never thought about it that way, until right now. You're right on

Love this look-wrinkles and all—on you for all the reasons Sal mentioned. Even on a hot, humid summer day you look amazingly fresh and pulled together!

And I think Sal is spot on on the “relaxed sophisticate” vibe you pull off so easily when you don’t put too much focus on the trendy. Maybe Katerina’s “modern” and “polished” might be interesting adjectives to play around with instead of focusing on “trendy” and “edgy”?

I love that dress on you — the sleeve detail is the perfect bit of personality added to a simple, easy dress. It’s a great color on you too. The sandals are so cute — I never think to look for shoes at Zara but maybe I should! Pretty lip color too. I think you look great, especially considering the heat!

To explain my thing about shift and sack dresses: I love them — on other people! It just happens to be an unfortunate look on me. I think it’s because most of them are shorter above the knee lengths, and that’s not a good length for my proportions. That length also puts a lot of emphasis on the knees and legs, which is not my best look. I look better in things that have a longer hem (mid-knee or longer), at least a hint of shape at the waist, a slight flare, or at least a hint of structure. Most shift and sack dresses also seem to have high necklines, which are not the most flattering on me. You have terrific legs, so I think this style of dress suits you so well!

More love for the summer dress your way. If the dress were not as short as it is I would be all over it. I like the color you have chosen. It is cool and relaxing to the eye. Yay for shift dresses. I like the no-zipper-hassle of them. The contortions one needs to do zipping up a back zipper can be painful.

This is a very nice dress, the sleeves and shorter hem give it plenty of structure and interest, as do the creases (you requested jokes ;)). Seriously though, sitting in a car in a hot day is the worst for clothes! And sticking to polyester would be the worst for you :). I don't know what I'd do!

This is a superstar outfit on you. The cut of the dress is great and it shows your legs beautifully. Shoes are fantastic and makes me wonder if I should replace the ones I just ruined in Italy with them (teaser alert ). The blue has all the virtues of both a neutral and a color. Wrinkles don't bother me at all but that's me. Blue bag is a great compliment. Really love this on you if you didn't get the hint!
