Or, What I Wore This Summer

Typical workday attire. I don’t have to handle AC set 8 degrees below my comfort level any more, and I will take breaks to walk around the yard of the block. I work barefoot, and add sandals, sunglasses, and sometimes a hat for walks.

One of my fabric websites started offering “linen chambray” in many different colors last year. Chambray means the linen is woven with mixed colored and white thread. It’s shirting weight, so quite light and slightly translucent; I wear a nude bra, and add a slip when I am out in front! I ordered several colors and fell in love with it. Then I started making dresses and couldn’t stop! Dresses 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9 are all from this linen chambray.

These dresses are from three primary patterns, all vintage. The ones with ties are from a 1930s beach wrap dress (wrap in back), the straps with the bow is a WWII era sundress, and the others are early 50s.

I crave color and variety, and the struggle is hard when hot temperatures last for 4-5 months. This spectrum helps because there are lots of options. And they are all slightly different from each other, so I don’t feel like I’m wearing a uniform. I do different jewelry every day, and a different hair toy to put it up when I get hot.

(Picture 2 is of a salmon pink, but I almost forgot to take the picture that day so the light is different!)
