Sooo, I got sucked in by the lilac trend last summer.
I haven’t worn lilac in years. It’s not a great colour on me. And it doesn’t fit in easily with my colour palette. But it was my favourite colour as a child. I felt this nostalgic pull towards it when it was all over the shops.
I ended up making a small investment. Two items:
* a lilac cutaway top from Neuw (they make the best cutaway tops ever)
* a pair of lilac sandals (not shown).
For lunch with my mum on a humid day I teamed the top with my reddish-brown Joseph skirt (the colour was described as “brick”). Big multi colour 2009 bag which has some purples in it. Purple and brown beads (thrifted + Etsy). Tan sandals. (The new lilac sandals would have worked but they have small heels and I was walking home.) For the walk I also wore my floral bucket hat, which has some pink in it (from the men’s section in ASOS, which has hats that fit my big head).
My husband liked this outfit. He said he’s never seen me wear pink before. (He meant the top.) It has been a long time. As a teenager, before I knew him, I used to wear a lilac blazer with white top, white pants and white shoes. Angie would have been proud!
I’d like to add one more item to my capsule: a really BIG lilac ring.
Your thoughts welcome.
