I love a cooler summer day when I can actually wear "real" clothes. In my line of work, I can get away with wearing jeans much of the time. It depends upon who I'm seeing that day, but for seeing many retailers now, polished casual works well. I lug boxes and bags and books and catalogues and all sorts of other crap around, and being too preciously dressed is just silly.

I like to wear a blazer over jeans , and I recently refreshed my collection of jackets with a few new pieces. This one is a linen blend pinstripe in charcoalish navy (if you know what I mean) , with a pale blue lining. Worn with my new favourite tshirt (thanks Umlilla/Lisa!) , jeans I like right now for their comfort and polish, and my new favourite shoes (thanks Vivian). I'm so fickle -everything is always my new favourite The jeans may not be the most fashion forward or contemporary, but I like the deep cuffs, and the fit makes me feel pulled together - literally , and figuratively.

I made sure my lipstick was brighter than usual to make this look professional and intentional. It wore off by the time I took this photo, I'm into wearing a fairly rich bright pink right now .

You look fantastic! The necklace is killer. I love a blazer with jeans as well, and you've totally nailed it. I love the term "polished casual". I've been using "dressy casual", but I think your term is better at describing what's in my head. Mind if I steal it?

Lisa, the high heel is just right with the longer high contrast blazer. And the low contrast shoes are fably leg lengthening with those jeans. I like the hair trim too. And the bling matches the colour of your hair.

It's 21 degrees today - or at least it will be - and I am NOT happy about it. I am greedy with our hot weather, which we have had in spades.

This seems so casually put together, but clearly every detail was considered: the t-shirt with its un-fussy faux knot, the artsy neckpiece, the hero jacket, the boot effect of those tall strapped shoes with the deeply cuffed jeans (can't believe those are NYDJ--they look so high-end!) All current and fabulous. It kills me that you can be having body issues when you look this sharp.

- and I laugh every time you Americans refer to NYDJ as not-high end or premium. In Canada, they are close to $200 a pair. Which to me is high-end enough. I know, I know, I have a mental block against $$ jeans. I have no idea why. And yes, I know they are not designer or woven from Japanese selvege edge denim, but sheesh! I love them because they hold me in. I find jeans always bag out and get bulky in the midsection area on me - and add bumps and buttons and crumpled fly fabric where one really doesn't need it. These may be old-lady jeans, but I like 'em.

I really like this on you-- very fresh and fun while still flattering. I think you are too hard on yourself. You a beautiful woman with a dramatic sense of style-- and you still manage to carry yourself with a lot of elegance.

Oh so glad you got those shoes! Aren't they wonderful?!! Now I want a pinstripe blazer though. It looks fantastic with the jeans. I actually wish I were wearing this entire look head to toe. You look gorgeous and no one does a statement necklace like you.

vivian - the shoes are the best, aren't they? They are even too big and I don't care - lol. I have to get out a hammer and nail and punch some more holes in the straps to tighten things up around my foot. So, so comfortable though, and pre-worn looking ! Love them.

And, Lisa, there is a thing called a belt punch (I got mine from Amazon) and it makes nice holes in shoe straps that are too loose. I used an awl before but the belt punch is better.

I really like this look Lisa. To me, you look stylish and a little edgy. It was also very interesting to hear from Angie why it works so well.

I have a similar pair of shoes but they're in a giraffe style animal print so very high contrast. They are quite difficult to wear and I haven't worn them yet. You have inspired me to try them with rolled jeans.

I think you look amazing. Seriously, this might be my favorite look I've seen on the forum since joining.

I had to laugh when you mentioned it being cool enough to wear "real clothes" because I totally feel the same way. Probably a terrible attitude, but I definitely consider the things I wear on hot summer days to be placeholders until my actual clothes come out in September.

I'm an outlier. I think the Club Monaco tee looks a bit overdone under the jacket.
I do like the wide cuff on the jeans and the shoes.

suz - I bought them at the Steve Madden store here in Wpg. I'd been eyeballing them all summer, but they finally were on sale for $149 so I pulled the trigger. There are two colours, this one, and the darker one that Vivian has. They are definitely rugged though and already look well worn, which is part of their charm . They are probably best for a foot that takes up a lot of depth in a shoe (is that what you call high volume?) and also for women with fuller ankles (I can't think of how else to describe that . I am sort of rattling around in them. I can fix them though (hammer and nail for the win) They have a bootie for fall that I'm going to try on soon too - great pieces in that line . anna - I can see how the t appears that way - I thought of it too, but liked how the fake knot pulled in the volume of the t without me having to tuck it in . I'm not a tucker, faux , or otherwise .

You look beautiful, everything looks great. I'm not usually a fan of the deep cuffs but with the long jacket and the shoes they look great.
Would not change a thing.

You look great. I don't think everyone can carry off deep cuffs, but you sure can. I second what Elly said: you have drama and style in spades, and your hair always, *always* looks AMMEZZIN!

I can't believe the price of NYDJ up there...but then I can't believe the price of Smythe down here
