It has been amusing for me to read the responses to Katerina s post “oldie but goodie”yesterday .There seems to be a definite split between those of us who have wardrobes that double as clothing museums and those who operate strict purges. It is obvious which camp I fall into so in the interests of full disclosure I have decided to kick off with my oldest wardrobe items ,excluding my wedding dress.
This suit was bought approx 20years ago in the Lanes in Brighton .If you ve not been Brighton is a very vibrant town on the south east coast of England. It is famous for its Lanes which are very old ,narrow ,pedestrian shopping streets selling just about anything you can think off, imagine Diagone Alley without the wizards!
The suit is by Pied a Terre which I think are still going after all these years. It was the most expensive thing I d ever owned other than my wedding dress at the time my then new husband had to talk me into it.
I would like to say it still fits but that would be disingenuous.More accurate to say I can do the trousers up,l then can’t breathe ,eat or sit down!I think if I was going to wear it for long I d have to get some of those suck you in knickers .As you can see it s fits onto the waist not across the hips so feels unusually high waisted by today s standards.
I do still wear it occasionally, usually just the jacket though as the trousers really are too small now but I can’t bear to get rid of it as it’s probably the chicest thing I ve ever owned.
Sorry the photos don’t show my feet but my daughter was the photographer and no matter what Isay she never photographs people full length!
